Spirit Splintered
Rachel was on her knees retching. She had never felt this before — not in her lifetime nor in the full legacy of the Milana. She wanted to vomit and at the same time she did not. Joy swelled up in her soul only to instantly wither into bitter bile at the back of her throat. Beauty shimmered at the edges of her vision, and as it registered it twisted into things vile and destructive, inciting instant hatred to well up inside her.
All the conflicts and changes in emotion were not just skin-deep; they were soul-deep and spirit-deep. They were affecting her very state of being and shifting her balance. A state shift was nothing to someone as powerful as her, but shifting states continually could cause a fundamental imbalance. This imbalance could start in the soul and spirit and then sink down to the foundation of a caster.
