The apartment featured an internal fire escape and there was an externally accessible fire escape that had been recently refurbished as a backup route; the alley behind was wide enough for a car, which would allow for a quick getaway in an emergency situation.
Nearby were a café and a restaurant, making it convenient whether dining out or ordering takeout. The apartment building's residents all seemed normal, at least during the time Jimmy observed from the café across the street—he hadn't spotted anyone who looked like a gang member. The inhabitants mainly consisted of people working office jobs and stay-at-home wives, with not many children or elderly.
