Chapter 6 - Failed night

Uzi walked down the hallway calmly, but that wasn't how she really felt deep down.

Uzi's thoughts: Why am I doing this? This is crazy; I feel foolish…but thad did invite her, so how could she refuse?

She felt like a complete mess. She took quick, deep breaths in an awkward way as she moved closer to the door, which she recognized from her father's constant door-fixing projects.

She tried to steady her breathing as much as possible to avoid looking like a complete weirdo when she finally knocked on her teacher's apartment door.

She could hear the music blaring out from behind the door before the doorknob started wiggling until it swung open.

Lizzy: Hey-oh, it's just you, weird girl….Oh! Did you bring that cute guy with you?!

Lizzy looked out from the doorway, glancing down the hallway in both directions. However, she was disappointed when she didn't see Y/n anywhere.

Uzi: No, it's just me, so deal with it!

Lizzy: No cute boy, no entree..

Uzi: (Image here)

Uzi: If that's true, why are there more guys than girls inside?

Lizzy: That's none of your business, weirdo!

Lizzy attempted to shut the door on Uzi, but someone prevented it from closing.

Thad: Hey, come on, Lizzy, just let her in.

Lizzy: Ugh!

Lizzy let out a dramatic sigh, rolled her eyes, and walked away from the two. Thad waited until she was gone before looking back at Uzi.

Thad: I'm sorry about that, Uzi. You know how she can be, but whoa, you look great.

Uzi tilted her head, brushing a strand of hair aside as she tried to hide her blushing, screen face.

Uzi: K-Keep your opinions to yourself.

Thad: Haha, sorry! But really, come on in; the party is just beginning inside.

He moved aside to let Uzi pass and enter the apartment. Inside, several drones from her class filled the space. Some were drinking, others were chatting, and a few were even dancing. Among them, one particularly drew her gaze.

Doll leaned against a wall, staring at a cup she held in both hands. She seemed lost in thought, yet showed some disdain.

Thad soon approached, holding drinks, interrupting Uzi's scouting of the area.

Thad: Here's something to kick things off, Uzi.

Uzi stood with Thad, drink in hand, both feeling awkward and silent. Just then, a familiar song began to play, one of her all-time favorites.

(Song here)

Uzi: FUCK yeah, I love this song!

Thad: Oh, are you familiar with this track?

Uzi: Of course! It's a classic by Aj Dispirito!

Uzi shook her head wildly as she danced to the song while many of the other drones watched closely, then quietly gossiped with one another.

Student girl: Omg, she is so weird

Student girl2: I like knew she was weird, but she is such a weirdo

Student guy: Yo, is that Thad's new girl?

Student girl: Ew, why did Lizzy invite her here?

Lizzy was off to the side, talking with doll. She was also gossiping with her, but she listened to what everyone was saying.

Lizzy: Tsk, why did Thad have to go and invite her?

Doll: For plot reasons.

Lizzy: Huh?

Doll: Because he has to be one of those, what do you call it, alpha types.

Lizzy: Yeah, whatever.

Thad smiled as he watched Uzi, amused by her nerdy antics, yet he couldn't ignore the comments others were making about her.

He suddenly joins her in dancing along with the music so she won't be the only one out for her weird attics.

Uzi noticed Thad dancing with her, which made her blush slightly and smile softly. She was happy to see that he cared enough to join her in doing something stupid.

Thad: Man, Uzi, you know how to party. That's pretty cool.

Uzi: Don't think flatter will get you anywhere with me.

Thad: Haha, I wouldn't dream of it.

They danced with each other for a good while as many different songs played, and while dancing, Uzi started to feel herself getting lost in the moment, her heart pounding.

She was unsure whether to take the risk and lean in for a kiss. It felt wild even to consider it, especially since this was their first interaction…. What would y/n do in this situation?

After all, he did say he was a player, so he certainly knew how to handle such moments.

Wait, why was she thinking about that stupid... hot human? Wait, what was she just thinking about?

Her face reflected a deep blush as she patted her cheeks, trying to shake that line of thought from her mind.

She didn't know what had come over her to make her think like that.

Thad: Yo Uzi, you alright?

Uzi glared at him, ready to respond with the same sentences from a few minutes ago, but Thad panicked and waved his hand around, trying to calm Uzi down somehow.

Thad: Ah, don't hurt me!

Uzi: Tsk, I'm not going to hurt you.

Thad: ... nice. Sorry, you just had a strange look on your face a moment ago.

Uzi: Huh, what do you mean? Are you saying I'm ugly?!

Thad: No, no, not at all. It's just that you have one of those... "quietly" disassembly drone eye things.

Uzi simply looked at Thad, dumbfounded by what he was saying.

Thad: You know what? Maybe it's just my imagination.

Thad: How about we get back to focusing on the moment? I actually wanted you to meet someone.

Uzi crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. She had a terrible feeling about what was just about to happen; she had seen enough anime to know.

She trailed behind Thad as he walked over to some seats where a female drone sat, talking to several other drones.

The female drone spotted the two approaching her, so she got up and walked over to greet them.

Thad: So Uzi, this is my girlfriend because, you know, as a classic masculine man, I already have one to break a girl's heart.

Uzi: Oh… I see.

Uzi's gaze dropped to the ground as the terrible realization she had feared came true.

*Someplace else*

Y/n sat in a chair, spinning until he stopped, his eyes fixed on his hand; it looked like his wound had opened again. He let out a sigh after the constant bleeding from his hands.

Y/n: Damn, I need stitches. These bandages aren't doing the trick.

He glanced around briefly until his eyes settled on Uzi's desk. If the worker drones had clothes, there must be a way to create and mend any torn threads.

He hopped off the chair and walked over to the desk, rummaging through it. To his surprise, he found a needle and some black thread, which made sense since it matched the color of her jacket.

As he picked up the needle and thread, something else caught his eye beneath the clutter. He sifted through the mess until a faint purple object emerged, which he held close to his face.

A faint smile slowly appeared on his face while examining the item from top to bottom. It looked like Nori had passed on one of her favorite items to Uzi.

*flashback*

Y/n walked through the corridors of a hidden underground lab. As he walked, numerous humans hurried past, appearing busy with their tasks.

Y/n considered himself fortunate to have been assigned the easier jobs. His small connection to the drone made him the best person to ensure these drones didn't rebel like a particular mango.

He grabbed his limited-access key card and swiped it against a panel beside a door, causing it to open. A worker drone stood in the middle of the room, inside. More specifically, a worker drone that had been infected by the Absolute Solver program.

The drone turned towards him, revealing its appearance with purple eyes and a light violet ponytail, accompanied by long bangs that parted on both sides of her head, topped with a small black construction hat.

She wore an oversized black off-shoulder shirt and, finally, a choker around her neck.

She hunched over slightly while pushing her hand out in a friendly way.

???: Well, if it isn't my favorite human.

Y/n: And if it isn't my least favorite drone

A small check mark appeared on her screen as darkness clouded her vision, causing her to creak her robotic fist joint.

???: Would you like to say that again, or how about I show you what these hands can do?

Y/n: Yeah, well, you can go ahead and try, but just remember, I'm the reason you all have this nice room for yourself instead of the lockers.

???: Hmph, as if I need this whole room to myself.

.

.

.

.

???: Nhm num num.

Y/n: Hey Nori….what do you think you're doing?

Somehow, in a few minutes, Nori was chomping down on his arm without so much as a worry about the pain her metal teeth would do to his skin.

Nori's gaze shifted from his arm to his face, eventually settling into a glare.

Nori: Num… Num… Num

y/n: Please, can you stop?

Nori: Bite me!

She was biting his arm once more in an instant, yet her expression softened.

NorI:... It's not like I appreciate you for letting me nibble on your arm or anything.

Y/n: Sure, sure, don't worry about it. I get why you're doing it.

He raised his other hand and gave head pats while Nori kept chomping on his arm. She tried to look unbothered by it, but he knew she liked them.

*present day*

His smile gradually disappeared, replaced by a much sorrowful expression. He couldn't believe that Nori was gone. They had been close friends, and now the thought of her being dead after everything left him utterly shocked.

A tear began falling from his face as a slight sniffle escaped his mouth; however, the door to Uzi's room suddenly swung open, revealing Uzi as she entered. This made y/n quickly wipe away his tears and turn his attention to Uzi.

Uzi: Uh, why were you looking through my desk?

Y/n: Well, maybe it's because someone tied my hands so tightly that it caused me to bleed when escaping them

Uzi: Ugh… bit me!

She continued walking until she reached her bed, flopping down face-first, her body hanging off slightly.

Y/n: What's going on with you?

Uzi: Nothing….

Y/n stared for a moment, letting out a sigh as he placed the needle and thread back on the table before moving closer to Uzi.

He hesitated briefly, observing her before nervously sitting on the edge of her bed. His hand gradually moved toward her, gently patting her back.

Y/n: Hey, come on, it couldn't have been that terrible of a date.

Uzi paused for a moment before lifting her head from the bed. She looked at him, noticing his warm smile.

Uzi: Ugh, I told you… It wasn't a date. It was nothing….

y/n: Come on, Uzi, tell me what happened.

Uzi: Fine, you want to know what happened! Thad and I were dancing when he suddenly showed me his girlfriend, so that's what happened. Okay!

Y/n: I see... so it's the classic "he already has a girlfriend" trope, huh?

Uzi: Look, I'm over it, okay, just leave it be!

Y/n: Okay, okay, I get it. Well, I'm here if you want to ever talk about it.

Uzi: And why would I talk to you about my love life, huh?!

Y/n: Well, you just never know sometimes, just speaking your feelings wi- hey, don't look at me like that.

Uzi looked like she was about to call him out for that line. But besides that, Uzi's eyes drifted back to the wall while she moved a strand of hair away.

Uzi: Feelings are overrated anyway. Besides, it's for the better, after all. I need to keep an eye on you.

Y/n: Aw, I feel touched.

Uzi looked back towards y/n, but her eyes drifted down towards his hands. She sighed for a moment as she stood up and went to grab the needle and thread.

Uzi: Don't move, idiot. Let me see your hands.

He complied, lifting his hands as Uzi held his wrist. She removed the bandages to reveal the torn skin and began stitching the skin together to promote better healing.

y/n offered a faint smile at Uzi, drawing her focus. She felt a hint of blush on her face as she attempted to fix her gaze on his hand.

Uzi: What?

Y/n: nothing, you just remind me of someone…

Uzi: Heh, did they have to put up with you all the time?

Y/n: for as long as we've known each other…

Uzi: Hey…So, what do you know about JC Jensen?

Y/n: This is out of nowhere. Why is that? What's up?

Uzi: I have been thinking, eventually, once I figure out how to build this freaking cool ass railgun and take out those disassembly drones. Then they would be my next target.

Y/n: Alright, let's see if I remember they are the company behind worker drones….

Uzi: And?

Y/N: Honestly, about it, all they did was make worker drones and have them do their dirty work for them.

Uzi: So much for using you for information.

Y/n: Happy to help.

For the first time since arriving, he heard a slight chuckle come from Uzi.

Uzi: done.

She let go of his hands, letting him take a closer look. She saw black lines of stitches tightening the skin.

Y/n: not bad Uzi.

Uzi: Hmph. Just get off my bed.

Y/n: Alright, alright, I'm moving.

Y/n moved off her bed and walked back over to the chair, sitting down and spinning around; however, his mind was elsewhere.

Khan wants him out, while Uzi wants to use him for information. If he was going to leave, at least he could get her fusion core.

But after his last experience with the disassembly drones, he wasn't exactly ready for another fight with them.

As much as he didn't want to head back there, he was going to need that place, as it might just have what Uzi was looking for.

He glanced back at Uzi, seeing her sitting on her bed with her headset on her head.

It was the very least he could do for Nori, even if Khan might disagree.

*early next morning*

In the early morning, y/n gradually opened his eyes, aware that Khan awaited him. After all, Khan had wanted him to leave overnight.

He rose from the Uzi chair and stretched briefly. Taking a moment to look around, his gaze settled on the Uzi desk drawer.

If he intended to go there, he would need that item.

He approached the drawer, pulled something from it, and placed it in his pocket. Then, he swiftly gathered his belongings and put them on as he headed for the door.

He opened the door and took a step outside, but suddenly stopped as he glanced back at the sleeping Uzi. He smiled briefly before closing the door and walking out of the apartment.

Right outside, Stodd Khan looked at y/n with a stern expression before turning and walking in a direction that y/n followed.

Eventually, they reached a large door, which Khan approached and pressed against. The door slowly opened, revealing another door, and another, until the outside was visible.

y/n glanced at Khan one last time before passing by and patting his shoulder.

He made it about halfway when Khan suddenly called out.

Khan: Y/n!

He glanced toward him.

Khan: Stay safe this time.

Y/n: Haha, you know it.

The doors began to close behind y/n after he walked past the third door. Y/n stood there for a moment, rubbing his hands together and looking at the sky, where the destroyed moon hung above.

*unknown time later*

J and V stood at the edge of the building. J raised one leg onto the ledge, causing her outfit to shift slightly as she looked down at the ground.

With narrowed eyes, she focused on a figure trudging through the asbestos-snow-covered ground, slowly approaching the building in front of them.

V stood with her arms crossed, gazing down at the figure. J glanced back at another disassembly drone that they had with them.

J: Hey, you fool, are you sure that's him down there?

N: Hehe, it looked like him from the pictures V uploaded to our storage.

V: Hey, you moron, don't place the blame on me if it's not him.

N: Oh no, I didn't mean to.

V: Ugh, idiot.

J just rolled her eyes while her gaze shifted back down at the figure below.

V took a step towards the legend while her wings sprouted out from her back. However, J stopped her before she could grab the person below.

J: Hold it.

V: What is it?

J: He was able to escape from us before, so we need to wait until he is somewhere where he has nowhere else to go. So let's just wait and get him once he is inside that building.

V: Can you tell me again why we need his… semen?

J: "Chucked." Sorry, but only those with a high enough clearance can access that kind of information V. Besides, it looks like we have someone else interested in our guy down there.

J gestured downward as it appeared another person was trailing behind the one they wanted.

V: "Murderous laughing." They're mine. My claws could use a fresh coat of oil.

J: Hmhp, Fine, I'm going after the human then, and unlike you, I'll get that sample we need.

V: What about the idiot?

She pointed over her shoulder towards N as he was playful, kicking his legs out like a kid.

J: Hey, stupid

N: Yeah, J?

J: Kill anyone who tries to enter the building after those two, and maybe then we will get that promotion. Hmm, how does that sound?

N:.... Sure thing, J I'm happy to be helpful!

J: Good boy~ Now come on, V, we have some mice to get.

Man, this thing is really old, like insanely old, but anyway, sorry for being so inactive everyone. I've just been so busy since I got back to town, but that's not the only thing either… I just think I lost my motivation to write. Maybe it has something to do with me writing chapters every week; I'm not sure. I'm just hoping that maybe it's because I'm more active than usual.

But anyway, I hope you like this horrible chapters.
