Chapter 183 - Bai Shou’s Luck is REAL!

"He literally survived the war to meet his lover!" Nina cried out, eyes wet with emotions as the television's screen reflected onto her pupils in her darkened bedroom.

"Boring." Williams cleaned his ear before blowing over his pinky finger.

"That's true love!" She argued.

"Nope. That dude clearly didn't want to die a virgin. It's not love. It's lust!"

"You take that back!" Nina hissed.

Williams scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"These movies are boring, Nina. Oh, they love each other but get separated. Boohoo. Oh, no! The actress playing the part of the actor's wife died a sad death. Cry me a river. That's not love."

Nina eyed him derisively.

"Big talk from an asshole who wondered why Archbishop Wang kept contact with the matrons he saved."

Williams smirked in reply.

"Oh, I never misunderstood why he visited those women. It was for the sex. What intrigues me is the reason he keeps having sex with those same women when he could have anyone."

"Eugh!" Nina gagged with a disgusted look on her face.

"You're such a jackass. We watched a marathon of romance movies!" She snorted. "The classics! What damaged you to this extent? Love is love."

Williams let out a curious hum.

"All these classics… I see. They ended with a kiss and a promise. Even the few movies that started with a couple breaking up only to get back together never showed anything after the 'Happy Ending.'"

Nina shivered.

"What kind of a sick bastard expects more than that from a movie?"

"Look. These movies firmly believe in the idea of love, don't they? Well, the production houses care more about the profits, so they recycle the same concept, forking out more money from their loyal customer base. It's just a business."

He hurriedly shut Nina up before she could speak.

"Don't say I'm wrong. I checked your schedule. You already met with a few big shots of the industry."

"I mean, just these idiots who produce movies about true love spend more time with their mistresses."

"How would you know that?" Nina huffed.

"From their wives?" Williams tilted his head.

"What?!"

"Yeah." He snickered. "Remember Mr. Lit from Lit Houses? His wife likes spilling tea on her husband after a good night."

Nina eyed the man incredulously before sneering.

"You lying sack of shit. Don't think I'm unaware of the mind games you're playing."

Williams calmly retrieved his cellphone. However, he couldn't help but observe the object a moment longer. He suddenly felt attracted to the device as if it was more important than he realized for some reason.

Shaking his head, he dialed a number while leaving the call on the speaker.

"Hello? Williams?" A female picked up the call, making Williams smile.

"Hey, Mrs. Lit."

"Oh, you! I told you it's Samantha for you." The voice answered huskily as Nina reeled from surprise.

"Sam, it is," remarked Williams, drawing a satisfied hum from the other side of the call. Nina observed the man prove the woman was indeed Mr. Lit's wife after a few innocuous inquiries as he soon ended the call on a positive note.

"By the way," Williams chuckled. "They had a love marriage and if Samantha's private detective is worth his expensive pay, Mr. Lit embarked on an illicit affair with his second secretary by the end of the second year of his long thirteen-year marriage."

Nina fell silent.

"So… she loves you now. It happens."

"Oh, she doesn't." Williams laughed.

Only after a few seconds he noticed a strange look from Nina.

"What? Still need convincing?"

"That you're a dumbass weirdo? No." She retorted. "How does your whorish affairs affect the existence of love? Just because you're jaded doesn't mean we carry the same emotional baggage."

"Whatever." He sighed. "All I know is that these movies were a huge waste of time and not worth pissing Kenny over."

"He needs to lighten up." Nina agreed with a tired groan.

After a moment of quiet contemplation, Nina glanced at Williams.

"How did you meet Mrs. Lit?"

"I wanted to sleep with her." Williams answered candidly.

"Just that?" she frowned. "You used her? Why? Because of your trait? Did you awaken your trait? What does it do?"

He shot a derisive glare at Nina.

"All I'm saying is love doesn't really exist. It's just a convenient lie two or more people tell each other. I guess self-love is a convenient lie we tell ourselves."

"Nah." Nina spoke with all the confidence in the world. "You're just broken or came into the world upside down."

"The one honest person will always appear crazy in a world of lies." Williams instructed sagely.

"Was that one of the things you discussed with Mrs. Lit as you two violated the sanctity of marriage?"

"Now you're getting it."

Williams dodged the pillow with a shameless laugh.

He leaned back from the couch and somehow felt Nina's bed behind him. His vision shifted slightly as he rested on the bed beside Nina. Her room went from slightly dark to a dimly lit setting as she crawled into his arms with a satisfied purr. She was clearly stressed and tired, or the woman would have something to say about Williams' shoes still being on the bed.

"I think you just keep your shoes on because you like hearing me complain about it."

Her worries and exhaustion magically vanish as she felt Williams arm loop around her.

"You keep surprising me with your observation skills, Nina."

"Kiss my ass, Willy." She snorted, her breath tickling his neck as she snuggled closer, purring into his chest again.

"Hmm? Can't." He answered, matching her energy. "You didn't wash up today, remember?"

"Ugh. I hate you!"

"You've been saying that for months." He held her tighter as if to make a point.

"Oh, don't flatter yourself." She snorted. "I only get to chat with you, Kenny, or Archbishop Wang. Clearly, I had limited options."

"Good for you on choosing the best."

"You're just my temporary hug device." She exhaled, growing closer, hoping to bury herself in Williams. "God, you feel hot. I love hugging you."

"I feel the same."

"Liar." She pouted.

"Just hook me up with some of that truth serum. It's that priestess' trait, no?"

Nina looked up, glaring at Williams.

"Fantasize about sucking Priestess Kim's breast milk when I'm not around."

"Tch, tch, tch." He shook his head, looking deeply into her eyes. "I just want to assure you. If sucking someone's breast is what it takes, then I'm willing to do the impossible!"

"Yeah, right." She replied dryly. "You're still the same Willy who shit on all the classics I love."

"No." Williams spoke softly. "I do love you."

"How many times has it been, Jik?" Nina whispered.

"I stopped counting."

"…"

After a few moments of silence, Lo Jik answered honestly.

"163 loops."

"And you still don't believe it, right? You don't trust your own words."

His lips parted open before she fell quiet.

Nina exhaled and rested her head against Bai Shou's bosom.

"God, you're hot." She mumbled. "Hot, stupid, confused, and the same dumbass."

Bai Shou pressed her lips together, unable to answer.

She finally spoke.

"I think I love you."

"Then you don't. You can't think about it, Willy."

"You were right." Bai Shou relented. "Maybe I'm broken."

"Then you need to learn." Nina explained gently. She hugged Bai Shou tighter. "I don't want you to leave… but you need to go out and learn things. You promised your new wife to be a good student."

"That ship's long sailed." Bai Shou stroked Nina's head. "I can't get out of this dream. Even if I'm self-aware about it, I've been here for too long. It's probably my consciousness stretching my last breath for an infinitely long duration. However, my soul is likely near its end. I… Sigh, I'm still inexperienced and lost myself in the dream early on."

Nina giggled at her words.

"You've always been so confident even when absolutely wrong."

Bai Shou rolled her eyes.

"Fuck you, too, Nina."

"Hmm?" She grinned cattily. "Can't. You lost your dick, honey."

"Hey, I plan to get it back."

"Then you should. I'll be waiting."

Bai Shou paused before lowering her head.

"I can't believe if it's you or some other shit in my head."

"There's a simple way to prove if I'm the real deal or your imagination." Nina sat straight, slightly excited.

Bai Shou scoffed.

"Come on!" Nina whined. "Ask me!"

"Fine," said Bai Shou. Her expression darkened briefly as she questioned. "When we kissed… before Kenny barged in and shot you…"

Bai Shou clenched her fist, suddenly glaring at the door as if it was her mortal enemy. It wasn't until Nina gently held Bai Shou's hand did she look at the Sun Priestess in-training.

"I somehow revealed my trait to you the moment we kissed and cashed in the platinum achievement. And somehow, the vision of our kiss was broadcast live in everyone's mind within our general vicinity. Was it you?" Bai Shou questioned.

"Well, duh."

Nina shrugged.

"You awakened your trait." Bai Shou recalled. "What is it called? What does it do?"

Nina smirked mischievously.

"I felt its name was—"

Xu Hao's eyes snapped wide open. To his fear, he found the woman before him wide awake, observing him. His nostrils briefly twitched as the gu immortal registered a familiar scent of an incense. It was from his wife's killer move to calm the soul's irritation the slightest bit. Still, it didn't compare to sleeping and resting the soul.

"I'm humbled by your glorious presence, Supreme One!"

The woman hurriedly kowtowed, adopting a tone as sincere as their current circumstances. Xu Hao's lips pressed together. Unlike Feng Jiu Ge, he did not appear scholarly and resolute but gave the impression of a scheming royalty. Calm indifference curtained uncertainty and annoyance behind Xu Hao's narrow eyes as he scanned the dangerous entity before escaping the cave.

He had nothing to say, especially after failing to pry into a mortal's secrets.

As if aware of his awakening, Xu Hao encountered a group of unlikely gu immortals within a structure built on a sweeping grassland. Ignoring the fox cubs playing in the tall grass, chasing after insects, Xu Hao entered the residence and quickly met Feng Jiu Ge's gaze. Tensions thickened in their surroundings as three female gu immortals observed everything calmly.

"What did you learn, Elder Xu?" Feng Jiu Ge broke the silence, calmly sipping tea. "You assured everyone this was the best time to learn Disciple Bai's secrets. I hope the last few months were fruitful."

The corner of Xu Hao's eyes twitched.

"How long?" He asked plainly.

"Five months in the blessed land." It was Fairy Bai La who answered Xu Hao. Meanwhile, Feng Jiu Ge's and Xu Hao's wives remained quiet and alert.

Xu Hao settled on the available seat, sinking into silence.

'Five months…'

He checked the state of his blessed land, almost cursing out loud! He suffered immense losses!

"You knew this would happen, Feng Jiu Ge!" Xu Hao glared at the dark-haired man.

"I did not." Feng Jiu Ge refuted expressionlessly. "We were all informed about the dangers around Bai Shou the second I informed first elder about her condition. I recall second supreme elder warning you against tampering with Bai Shou's memories in this sensitive moment. But you paid them no heed and suffered the consequence of your actions."

"You should feel grateful." Bai Qing supported her husband. "Had it not been for us, your soul would have dissipated by now. We appropriately charged Fairy Li for the cost."

Xu Hao gritted his teeth. Schooling his features and organizing his thoughts, Xu Hao glanced at his nemesis.

"I… experienced a dream realm. It was a manifestation of a certain loop of Disciple Bai's memories related to her home world. I understand why you're here, Elder Feng. Bai Shou's memories aren't as crucial as my experience. It is something first supreme elder can use for the sect's research into Dream Path."

Xu Hao felt bitter. His losses were truly massive.

He failed to get anything worthwhile out of Bai Shou and left his blessed land unmanaged for such a long time! He'd need to reinvest a small amount of capital to turn things back on the track.

"How did you escape?" Li Jun Ying questioned. She looked pale and concerned. Much to everyone's shock and fear, Xu Hao shook his head.

"I… I didn't. Unlike first supreme elder's advice, I couldn't wake myself up even when I was self-aware. My identity, someone called Ke Ni, almost became a part of me. I was stuck in that form."

Beads of sweat formed on Xu Hao's forehead.

"It was different from the rules first supreme elder discovered and recorded."

Feng Jiu Ge and Bai Qing discreetly glanced at each other before the former's body phased out of existence. Despite his lifelike appearance, he was a will made from several conscious thoughts.

Li Jun Ying was the same.

"Sigh." Bai Qing shook her head. "We failed to control Disciple Bai."

Xu Hao didn't speak.

"It wasn't going to work in the first place. We're all aware of Bai Shou's intelligence. Her accidental entrance to a dream was not a blessing in disguise. We all expected wisdom path methods to work. Instead, Elder Xu got pulled into the dream. We are fortunate that first supreme elder already informed you the possible dangers." Bai La asserted, offering some tea to Xu Hao. "But Bai Shou is more surprising than we expected. After all, Elder Xu fell into a dream because he wanted to extract Disciple Bai's memories. It won't be strange to theorize that he got out because Bai Shou removed herself from such a terrifying dream. It kept consuming her soul at a terrifying pace."

Xu Hao stood up after finishing the tea and cupped his fist.

"Excuse me, fairies. I have a few urgent matters to tend to. I will leave a few responsibilities to you, Fairy Bai La."

He left the undecorated hut, leaving the mother-daughter pair.

"His losses must have really stung him." Bai La muttered after a moment, quietly drinking from her cup of tea. "Your husband got lucky this time, Qing'er. Xu Hao rarely ever commits such blunders."

<<<>>>

'Talk about being fucking unlucky!'

Bai Shou refrained from hissing, still kowtowing to nobody in particular. She didn't need to be a genius to realize the individual in front of her was a gu immortal.

'But where am I?'

Bai Shou slowly looked up and glanced around. She woke up moments before the quiet gu immortal, so she didn't get a chance to explore her surroundings or plunder said sleeping gu immortal.

Alert, she quickly inspected herself.

'All my gu worms are hungry.'

She frowned. Uncaring about its fate, Bai Shou used rank 4 Brave Thoughts Gu to fill her mind with orange, fist-shaped brave thoughts. They collided in her mind, concealing her thoughts.

'The last thing I remember is using that gu worm and…'

Loops of the same memories replayed in her mind, quickly consuming most Bai Shou's thoughts as she stopped.

'That dream… I can't focus on Nina right now.'

She clenched her fists and felt… amazing!

'What…'

Her lips parted open as she noticed something peculiar.

'How did this happen?'

Bai Shou sensed something different. Unaware about the specific details of the killer moves and several other hidden mechanisms left in her body but more than clear those things certainly existed because she ended up encountering the worst possible situation she tried her best to prevent—being unconscious in a gu immortal's vicinity—she focused on her soul.

Why was she not dead?

Given how much bullshit she had to tackle with constantly healing her or the dreamer gu worm's soul, she resolved to strengthen it not only to keep even average soul path gu masters from targeting her but also to make better progress with the use of the dreamer gu in the future.

So, why was her soul not at the brink of dissipation, leading to her demise?

Why did Bai Shou feel something corporeal in the back of her mind once she closed her eyes? It felt like a certain weight in the depths of her being. Its appearance was like… Lo Jik. He was not as tall or muscular as the fearsome Little Giant King, who forced the taste of defeat down the throats of super clans at San Cha Mountain.

Instead, the figure had a faint grey outline and was thin but possessed unmistakable similarity to Lo Jik without all his body modifications.

'How did my soul advance to this stage? It's almost twenty, no, a thirty-man soul!'

Ordinarily, it would require a few years to reach a fifty-man soul using the Soul Bell Gu.

'How long was I out for?'

Filled with questions, Bai Shou moved and explored the dark cave. She buried her doubts about how much of her had been exposed. Some killer moves targeted the mind and inspected one's thoughts. To fixate on her secrets at such a sensitive moment may lead to their exposure if they hadn't already been discovered. So, Bai Shou couldn't fret over the details and had to understand her circumstances instead.

The fact she was alive and still sensed the immortal gu worm in her blood stream only slightly weakened filled her with moderate confidence.

'But it is prudent to assume all my gu worms are compromised.'

It left a slight distaste in her mouth.

Even if the mysterious gu immortal did not target her gu worms, Bai Shou would still need to refine them again out of caution. But most of her gu worms were of extinct variety!

It would be an incredibly costly affair.

'Unless…'

Bai Shou paused.

A few gu worms could achieve the process of refinement itself.

'Heck! I might be able to create a killer move to destroy and refine the gu worm at the same time!'

If nothing else, she was still ambitious.

'Sigh…'

She exhaled, nearing a tunnel descending further into the darkness.

'Either my secrets are exposed, or they are safe. The fact is—I'm alive.' She grew calm. It wasn't the first time she was tossed into an unfamiliar environment without any substantial clues.

If she was alive, it meant she held value.

Bai Shou pursed her lips, contemplating her next course of action.

'At least, I can be certain that this gu worm was long exposed.'

The skin on her forehead split open, revealing a lifelike eyeball. The two, semi-fused pupils glowed with their brilliant kaleidoscopic irides, reflecting her surroundings in her mind.

Rank 5 Heaven and Earth Before My Eyes!

*Spurt*

Bai Shou's third eyes suddenly let out a trickle of blood as its activation failed. The sudden backlash forced the woman on her knees, her soul shaking from the impact and her mind reeling with pain!

However, she didn't lose consciousness.

'Where the fuck am I?'

Bai Shou was shocked. It was the first time her activation of the eye gu worm failed in such a manner. It had to be recalled that even when encountering traces of a gu immortal's work, the rank 5 eye gu worm displayed 'nothing.' Why would it be suddenly injured?

"Hehehe~!"

A cute, somewhat childish voice, giggled.

"Master said not to let you use any gu worms."

Bai Shou instantly comprehended the truth.

"I'm in a blessed land." She spoke with a weak voice. "Are you the blessed land's land spirit?"

She gulped.

"I'm tired and hurt, O' Land Spirit. Do you know why I'm here?"

"Of course!" the cute voice answered earnestly. Land Spirits were like preprogrammed artificial intelligence and couldn't lie.

"You were brought here to improve your soul foundation."

Bai Shou wisely refrained from activating Self-Reliance Gu Worm and recollected her bearings.

"Am I allowed to leave?" She questioned.

The land spirit grew quiet.

It took some time, but the land spirit finally answered.

"You are only allowed to leave without using any gu worm."

Bai Shou nodded.

"I understand." She spoke somberly. "Many thanks—"

The ground under her feet suddenly disappeared as Bai Shou was forced to squint her eyes due to the bright surroundings. Weightlessness assaulted her senses, as if she was falling—

Wind whistled through Bai Shou's ears as her eyes adjusted to the instant changed and realized she was indeed falling from the sky.

However, there was no hint of panic in her eyes.

She did not mobilize her bat wings but instead adjusted her position like a straight sword. Her body was upside and down, and she would collide with the ground headfirst.

Everything else melted and vanished from Bai Shou's vision. There was only her and the ground.

The grass was green and lush, stretching outward to no end.

The distance between Bai Shou and the ground shortened at a shocking pace. She did not close her eyes but instead chose to observe as many blades of grass as she could.

Death?

Let it scare some other hypocritical righteous path leader.

For a moment, Bai Shou felt pure.

In fact, it brought back old memories.

*Swish*

*Swish*

The wind began to sound shrill.

Unsurprisingly, Bai Shou fell and impacted—

*Oomph*

—on a scented mattress.

She hurriedly looked up, meeting the quiet Shu Zhe's gaze as the woman sat cross-legged on a cultivation mat not far from the mattress.

"Hey." Bai Shou grinned after a period of stunned silence, like a shameless partner who never tried to escape from the sect. Her body shifted, adopting more masculine features and a deeper voice.

"Miss me, Zhe'er."

Shu Zhe stayed silent as the mist began to cover the ground with lazy curls. The former sect leader glanced at the pristine ceiling before looking deep into Bai Shou's eyes.

"I did miss you." She admitted, narrowing her eyes. "And you're injured."

Bai Shou wiped the blood off his nostrils.

"Tis but a scratch. Come."

Shu Zhe did not move despite being well-aware of the the meaning of the word—come.

"I thought you died." Shu Zhe furrowed her brows. "Or worse, escaped."

"Nonsense. Death IS an escape." Bai Shou smiled. "And nobody is powerful enough to part us. I will always find you."

Shu Zhe refrained from pointing out the irony in his statement since they spent months apart.

"You didn't find me." She took issue with another part of his statement. "You were sent here."

Bai Shou sat up and scratched the back of his head.

"Look. I don't know where I was and for how long. I just woke up in a cave. And then I fell here."

Shu Zhe sighed and shook her head.

"I suppose I can take you back."

"Great. Do I get betrothal gifts again?" Bai Shou perked up.

"No." Shu Zhe shook her head, smiling softly. "You get something better—my boundless criticism."

Bai Shou worked his jaw before sauntering over to Shu Zhe and kneeling before her. He reached out to caress her cheek, asking gently.

"How long was I out?"

"One month in mainland's time and five months in this blessed land's time. We're no longer in sect's public blessed land."

"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you." Bai Shou whispered, lowering his head. "Not that you needed me." He smiled wryly only for Shu Zhe to turn her head and kiss his hand.

"Now, I only need you," she replied.

"I'll do my best." Bai Shou smiled.

"I know." Shu Zhe shared his smile, basking in his affection.

"I didn't know I missed you so much, Zhe'er. I…"

Shu Zhe pressed her index finger on his lips, shaking her head.

"You'll learn about it. I promised to teach you, after all. So, refrain from saying it until you mean it."

"Understood."

Bai Shou stole Shu Zhe's lips instantly, relishing her taste as their clothes didn't stand any chance, flying off their bodies in the next few seconds.

'Unexpectedly, I made some gains.'

Xu Hao thought after accounting for all his losses.

Aside from the obvious financial loss, Xu Hao's soul suffered greatly, and he also experienced some losses due to his schemes not bearing any fruits. After all, he planned to invoke further aggravation in Le Tao, Jirou Na, and a few others to attack and kill Bai Shou. However, the strange turn of events instead propelled Bai Shou to another seat of importance for the sect.

Temporarily, that junior was untouchable!

No. All of Xu Hao's scheme to harm Feng Jiu Ge's interests were in vain due to Bai Shou's act of breaking out of the dream. Instead of feeling thankful to Bai Shou, Xu Hao only burned with anger and killing intent.

Human Path…

Otherworldly Demon status…

And now, Dream Path.

Xu Hao knew he couldn't do anything to Bai Shou, and Feng Jiu Ge's investment paid off.

Knowing when to admit defeat, Xu Hao stopped all his schemes against the Feng Faction—temporarily.

'But what was that reincarnation technique everyone talked about in Bai Shou's home world? First Supreme Elder informed that despite many details appearing true, a dream cannot be considered a good source for information about technical matters.'

'However, Bai Shou was from a strange world.'

He mused.

Xu Hao had omitted many details from his reports.

Bai Shou wasn't the first otherworldly demon, and she wouldn't be the last. A few records about these demons suggest that their worlds were equally mystical.

However, in this world, everyone was subjected to the grand dao and gu worms.

Wouldn't Bai Shou be a powerhouse if she could wield the mystery of her previous world and break off from the rules of the grand dao?

'But what if that reincarnation technique was the cause of Bai Shou's arrival?'

Xu Hao did not have any interest or ambition in exploring strange worlds when the gu world itself wasn't completely explored. But he wanted to learn more about this technique and see if it could inspire him to create a life-extension method.

'Sigh. This feeling is so suffocating!'

He gritted his teeth.

'But… I'll have to find ways to build connection with Bai Shou and trade for that technique. Perhaps, she already has some unique insight into the technique and managed to deduce a recipe for a gu worm.'

Xu Hao could only hope. He couldn't let vengeance blind him. So, knowing that going against the Feng Faction wasn't worth his time, he chose to scheme ways to re-establish a network with them.

A/N: Earlier, the chapter was going to be about Bai Shou waking up in Hu Immortal Blessed Land alone and making her way to the tribe of rockmen living there. However, I scrapped it because it didn't make sense after a moment's thought. Proving 'slight' experience with the dream path, coupled with earlier possible benefits, Bai Shou proved herself to be the single most greatest investment opportunity after the Hu Immortal Blessed Land. So, there was no reason to get into another arc of keeping Bai Shou paranoid about if the gu immortals were involved or not after she woke up. Now, she knows, and is much calmer even if her secrets are exposed because if one secret is exposed, she can always deduce a newer, better recipe and methods. Anyway, we're in the final leg of Bai Shou's arc. I know the majority wouldn't miss Bai Shou… but I would. Sniff. Bai Shou has glorious tits, or so Qin Juan thinks whenever she dreams of Bai Shou.
