CAMILLE
Alice drops me off with a quiet "Later babe," her voice still a little distant, distracted. I watch her drive off, her taillights vanishing down the street, then head upstairs to my apartment building. The second I step into my apartment, Carter's laughter fills the air. He's planted on the couch, grinning at his tablet screen like he's just won the lottery. I toss my bag onto the opposite sofa, raise a brow, and walk over.
"What's up, big guy?"
He spins toward me, eyes bright. "Welcome back, sis."
I can't help but smile at his energy. "You look like you swallowed the sun. What's got you beaming like that?"
He holds out the tablet, shaking it a little with excitement. "Stanford. They accepted me. Full ride. Niklaus actually pulled it off!"
My heart jumps. "What? That's... that's amazing!" I walk around and squeeze him tight from behind. "Oh my God. I have to thank him—seriously."
