Her breath hitched, catching in her throat as the manic certainty shimmered around her like heat waves, distorting reality. The world narrowed to that one point of plastic under her fingers, to the pulse still beating steadily under her other hand, to the terrifying, seductive peace that lay on the other side of decisive action.

No more pain. No more fear. No more exhaustion. Just darkness, and then whatever came after. Together.

Her thumb moved, touching the clamp, ready to release it.

Then, almost against her will, her eyes fell on his face again. Truly looked at it instead of just seeing it as an object in her plan.
