Chapter 67 - New Powers

As the soft glow of light appeared in their hands, the three women looked at it with wonder. It wasn't just warm to the touch—it felt comforting, like something peaceful had filled the air around them.

Maria looked down at the light, then glanced at Alex. She was clearly curious.

"This... what is this power exactly? What does 'Greater Light Manipulation' mean?" she asked.

Colleen and Sue leaned in too, interested in the answer. Dinner was now the last thing on their minds.

Alex leaned back on the couch, thinking about how to explain it clearly.

"It's a stronger, more advanced form of light control," he began. "Most people can only use light as a basic element—like making it glow, flash, or maybe use it in spells. But this… this is different."

He pointed to their glowing hands.

"Greater Light Manipulation means you're connected to the deeper meaning of light. Not just brightness, but things like purity, truth, clarity—even emotions. You can shape the light into things like shields, bursts, blades, or illusions. You can also use it to help others—like healing or calming someone down."

He looked at each of them seriously. "This power responds to how you feel and what your intentions are. If you stay calm and focused, it can do some really amazing things. But if you try to force it or rush it, it won't work the way you want."

Sue blinked. "So it's not just for fighting?"

"No," Alex said with a smile. "It's also for protection, support, and guiding others. It's meant to help—not just destroy."

Maria opened her hand again, watching the soft golden light gently form. "It feels peaceful… but there's power in it too."

Colleen laughed. "Peaceful? I nearly blinded myself when I tried to make a shield with it earlier."

Alex chuckled. "That's because you were trying too hard. Light doesn't like being forced. You have to be clear in your mind. It responds to that."

Sue grinned. "Sounds like we're going to need to do some meditation."

Alex nodded. "Yeah. If you train and really understand it, this power will become a part of you. And eventually, it can grow into something even stronger."

Maria looked at him with appreciation. "Thank you, Alex. For trusting us with something like this."

Alex shrugged slightly and smiled. "You're important to me. I'll always share what I can with the people I trust."

The three of them smiled back at him, each still marveling at the light flickering gently in their hands.

Sue tilted her head slightly, eyes playful yet soft. "Since you trusted us with something so special," she said, stepping a bit closer, "maybe it's time we returned the favor."

Colleen and Maria shared a glance, then nodded with quiet amusement and affection.

Before Alex could reply, they gently pulled him along—guiding him with smiles and laughter toward the bedroom.

The next day, Alex returned to his usual routine as the doctor of his private clinic. His patients came and went throughout the morning—simple cases, follow-ups, and a few minor surgeries.

By the afternoon, with most appointments done, he finally had a moment to breathe.

He sat down in his private office and brought up his system interface. The soft shimmer of translucent blue menus hovered before his eyes.

System Shop – Updated

After his last evolution, several new features had been unlocked. Not only had he gained access to higher-tier magical items, but his latest Demon Contract slot had also become available. He now had the option to summon another demon.

He tapped the [Soul Crystal Catalog], browsing through dozens of options—each tied to a different type of demon.

"Hm… I already have two demonesses and three humans blessed with Greater Light," he muttered, thoughtfully scrolling through the list. "If I buy and give them angels bloodline…"

He paused, tapping his chin.

"…Then I'd have three angels and two demonesses in my group. And if the next summoned demon ends up being a demoness too…"

A grin slowly formed on his lips as the realization clicked.

"That would be three angels and three demonesses," he murmured to himself. "A balanced harem of light and darkness…"

Chuckling, he leaned back in his chair. "Guess I really am living the dream—sister Riley would roll her eyes at me, but hey, I'm doing great."

As Alex leaned back in his chair, a grin playing on his lips at the thought of his "balanced" harem, a flicker of memory surfaced—soft, uninvited.

Sister Riley.

The grin faded. A sharp ache passed through his chest, and pain flashed briefly in his eyes.

In his last life, Alex had been an orphan. It was Sister Riley—the kind-hearted nun—who had taken care of him and the other children at the orphanage. She wasn't just a caretaker; she was family. The only one who gave them warmth, guidance, and faith when the world had none.

But as Alex grew older, he remembered the day everything changed.

Sister Riley had been diagnosed with cancer.

It was late-stage. Aggressive. The orphanage didn't have the funds for proper treatment, and no hospital would offer charity care at that level. Alex, too young and powerless then, could only watch helplessly as the person who saved him slowly withered away.

That was the day he vowed to become a doctor. Not for glory or status—but to save people like her. To make sure others didn't have to suffer as she had.

But fate was cruel. Just when he finally earned the title of doctor, life was taken from him in a senseless accident.

His hands curled into fists at the memory.

"I wonder how she's doing…" he mumbled under his breath.

His voice was quiet. Not full of hope, not entirely of despair either—just distant, uncertain.

"I hope… she was cured," he added, almost as a prayer.

For a moment, he sat in silence, lost in the weight of that old promise.

Then, slowly, he exhaled and leaned forward again, eyes hardening with focus as he returned to the glowing interface in front of him.

Now's not the time to get stuck in the past, he thought. I have the power now. If she's still alive in that world… maybe one day, I'll find her again.
