It had been over a week since his last mission with S.H.I.E.L.D., and along with the ever-alluring Black Widow, he had finally returned to his clinic, settling back into his everyday life.
The hum of the city outside felt almost alien after the chaos of gunfire, espionage, and shadow wars. Here, in his clinic, things were quieter—more human. The scent of antiseptic and coffee filled the air as he sorted through patient files.
He was back to his normal life and goin on with everyday things.
But that normalcy never lasted long for him. The phone on his desk buzzed. It wasn't the usual hospital line—it was the encrypted one. The one that only a handful of people in the world had access to.
He stared at it for a moment, torn between the desire to ignore it and keep the normal life as it is.
Finally, he answered.
"Doctor," the voice on the other end rasped, calm yet commanding. "We need you again. Something's come up. Something… only you can handle."
"Phil, long time no see, man," Alex said as he answered the phone coolly. Then, leaning back in his chair, he asked, "So, what's the problem that needs my help?"
"Doc… it's an old experiment," Phil stated, his tone low and cautious. "Back then, the government was working on recreating the Super Soldier Serum. One of the projects involved rebuilding it—this time by combining the formula with gamma radiation."
Phil exhaled heavily on the other end of the line before continuing.
"They ended up in an accident, Alex. The gamma trials didn't just fail—they created… an anomaly. One of the scientists exposed to the process survived, but he didn't come back the same. Under stress, his body transforms into a monstrous, uncontrollable state. A raging mass of muscle and destruction. We called him—'Hulk.'"
Alex leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "You're telling me your little experiment turned one of your brightest minds into a walking nuclear disaster?"
"Pretty much," Phil admitted flatly. "We've tried containing him, studying him, even helping him. But the truth is, Doc… when he loses control, no one can stop him. We need someone who understands both the science and…" He paused, choosing his words carefully. "…the other side of it. The part that isn't in any textbook."
Alex leaned back in his chair, silent for a moment as his mind worked through the implications. Gamma radiation, failed serums, a living weapon born from rage itself.
"So," Alex finally said, voice low and deliberate, "you're asking me to clean up someone else's mistake. Where is he now?"
"Right now, you can't, atleast openly" Phil replied. "The U.S. military is after him too. Specifically, General Ross—the one who oversaw the original super-soldier experiments. He wants to keep the Hulk for himself, and he won't stop until he does."
"So what exactly do you want from me?" Alex asked, his tone sharpening.
"We want you to contain him. Stop him if he loses control… and then help him escape the military's grasp. We don't want Ross getting his hands on him."
Alex exhaled, then nodded. "Fine. Where is he now?"
"At the moment, his whereabouts are unknown," Phil admitted. "But sooner or later, we'll get a lead. When we do, we'll call you. Just be ready to move at any moment."
"Okay then," Alex muttered, giving a short nod before Phil cut the call.
Alex set the phone down and leaned back. A faint, almost eager smile touched his lips.
"Well, well, well… looks like Hulk's next on my list. I wonder if I'll be the one to finally bring him down. The more rage that guy builds, the stronger he gets… so my best bet is to knock him out fast. End it before it drags on."
With that thought lingering in his mind, Alex lay back on his bed, already preparing himself for the inevitable clash.
The whole day passed, but no call came. Alex eventually drove back in his car, restless and tired, until midway through the highway he noticed something unusual.
Sirens. Blaring horns. Military convoys rushing past him.
He slowed down, frowning. Rain had just started to fall, pattering against the windshield when he caught sight of something in the distance—something massive tearing through the streets.
Alex narrowed his eyes. "No way… that's the scene straight out of the Incredible Hulk movie."
The creature wasn't Hulk—it was worse. A twisted abomination of muscle and rage, roaring as it clashed with soldiers. Tanks and helicopters surrounded the area, and in the middle of it all, Alex spotted General Ross, barking orders as his men unleashed firepower to no effect.
Alex smirked faintly, almost amused. "Well, I guess that saves me the trouble of chasing my prey. One monster fight gift-wrapped by the military themselves."
He parked his car in the shadows, stepping out casually despite the chaos. His sharp eyes caught Ross glancing up at the skyline, shouting orders, desperate. The air was thick with panic, soldiers scrambling.
Then it happened—Abomination, furious and unstoppable, swung wildly, tearing apart an armored vehicle. And in that moment, a black-and-gold fist suddenly shot out of nowhere, smashing straight into its face.
The impact cracked the sound barrier. The beast was sent flying backwards, skidding through the asphalt and smashing into a building.
Alex lowered his arm, flexing his knuckles as the golden glow along his veins dimmed. He stood there in the rain, expression calm, like a predator who had just entered the battlefield.
"Well," Alex muttered, his tone cold yet amused, "guess I'll just knock the hell out of him and see what comes next."
The ground trembled as Abomination roared back to its feet, glaring at him with bloodlust. Soldiers froze, staring at Alex with wide eyes.
Alex tilted his head, cracking his neck, ready to fight.
Alex planted his feet firmly on the cracked pavement, his gaze never leaving the monstrous silhouette of Abomination. Rain streaked across his face, glinting in the flashing lights of military vehicles and gunfire sparking off steel.
"Go back," Alex said coldly, voice carrying above the chaos, "or go on a suicide mission. I don't care."
