Chapter 124 - Thor VII

In Asgard, the skies were unsettled. Lightning flashed again and again, and thunder rolled over the city. Everyone felt it was a sign that something was wrong.

Inside the throne room, the great golden hall was bright, but the throne was empty. Odin remained in the Odinsleep, and Frigga stood nearby with worry in her eyes. She could sense that something was happening to her son far away.

The large doors opened.

The four warriors walked in together: Volstagg, broad and heavy with his beard bristling; Hogun, quiet and stern with steady steps; Fandral, usually lighthearted but serious now; and Lady Sif, tall and strong, her dark hair tied back, her armor gleaming as her eyes burned with determination.

They knelt before Frigga.

"My Queen," Fandral said firmly, "we cannot wait any longer. Thor is still on Midgard, stripped of his power. The Nine Realms grow restless without him."

Volstagg struck his chest with his fist. "The Bifrost has not been opened since the All-Father entered his sleep. But there must be another way. Thor is our brother. We will not leave him abandoned."

Hogun's voice was low and steady. "Without him, Asgard is weaker. Loki now sits the throne, and his words already spread through the court. If Thor does not return, the balance will be lost."

Lady Sif stepped forward, her voice strong. "Thor's exile has lasted long enough. He is not only the son of Odin, he is the protector of Asgard. I will not stand by while he is left powerless on Midgard."

Frigga looked at them. Hearing Loki's name pained her, but she kept calm. She walked closer, folding her hands. "I know your loyalty, and the oaths you swore to Thor. But Odin's judgment was final."

Fandral lifted his head. "And yet you still call him your son. That means you have not lost hope. Neither should we."

The hall grew silent, with only distant thunder in the background.

Frigga slowly lifted her hand, as if feeling Thor's presence far away. "If you go, you will be defying the throne. But if you bring him back—not just as a warrior, but as the man he is meant to be—then perhaps Odin will forgive this choice."

Volstagg nodded firmly. "Then we will not return without him."

The four of them bowed low, then turned for the doors. As they walked, Hogun muttered quietly, "Midgard is not ready for us."

The doors closed behind them.

Frigga stayed where she was, looking at the empty throne. Her voice was soft, almost to herself. "Thor, my son… find your strength before it is too late."

The four of them walked quickly through the golden streets, their armor clinking softly. The skies above rumbled, lightning flashing more than usual. People turned their heads as they passed, whispers following them—everyone knew something was stirring.

At the end of the bridge, the tall figure of Heimdall stood at his post. His golden eyes seemed to see everything at once, and his great sword rested by his side. He did not move as the warriors approached, but they knew he had been watching long before they set foot on the bridge.

"Heimdall," Lady Sif called out as they neared him. "You know why we've come."

His deep voice answered slowly, steady as the bridge beneath them. "I see much, Sif. I see Thor on Midgard, lost and heavy with doubt. I see Asgard shifting under Loki's rule. But the All-Father's command was clear. I cannot disobey it."

Fandral stepped forward. "We ask not for disobedience. Only for a chance. Thor's exile cannot last forever."

Heimdall's gaze did not soften. "The Bifrost is closed by Odin's will. I cannot open it."

Volstagg's shoulders dropped, frustration clear. "So, that's it then? Thor rots on Midgard, and we stand idle here?"

But Heimdall lifted his great sword slightly, and for a brief moment, the rainbow bridge shimmered faintly. His voice dropped lower. "I may not open the Bifrost. But if another warrior takes the blade… then it is no longer my hand that acts. Do you understand?"

The four exchanged looks. They understood perfectly.

Sif stepped closer, her jaw tight with determination. "Then forgive us, Heimdall. For what must be done."

He did not answer. He simply turned his face toward the storming horizon, as though he could not see them anymore.

Hogun muttered, "A shame, to force the hand of one who has guarded Asgard for so long."

Heimdall's voice rumbled one last time. "I will not stop you. But do not mistake silence for approval."

Without another word, he let his sword fall into the slot at the bridge's heart. The great mechanism stirred, and light rushed across the sky. The rainbow bridge flared alive, glowing brighter and brighter until it roared like thunder.

The four warriors looked at each other once, then stepped onto the path.

In the next moment, the Bifrost took them, and Asgard was gone.

The light of the Bifrost tore across the sky, splitting the clouds as it slammed down onto Midgard. The air shook, the ground cracked, and a column of rainbow light stretched upward before fading just as quickly as it came.

When the glow faded, four figures stood in its place. Volstagg brushed himself off with a grunt, his armor creaking. Fandral landed gracefully, drawing a breath of the cool night air. Hogun scanned the area with sharp eyes, already on guard. Lady Sif steadied her footing, her hand on the hilt of her blade.

They were standing on the edge of the small town, not far from where Thor was being kept. Neon signs flickered in the distance, the storm overhead still raging.

Volstagg frowned. "So this is Midgard. Hmph. Smaller than I imagined."

Fandral smirked faintly. "Don't let the simple look fool you. Every realm hides its dangers."

Hogun's voice was flat. "We are not here to marvel. We find Thor and return."

Sif nodded. Her eyes were firm. "Yes. Thor first. Speak of nothing else."
