The Destroyer's mask opened wide, and fire poured out like a blazing sun, ready to burn everything in its way. The heat spread into the air, glass began to bend and sag in the nearby buildings, and the ground under its feet glowed bright orange.
Thor did not back away. He stood firm, spinning Mjölnir faster in his hand, the storm around him answering his call. The wind screamed through the streets as if the skies themselves were at his command.
A bolt of lightning came crashing down, striking the street right next to him. Thunder rolled loudly like the sound of war drums. Thor's eyes lit up with stormlight as he lifted the hammer high into the sky.
"ENOUGH!"
He threw Mjölnir straight into the stream of fire. Lightning and flame met, clashing with a deafening explosion that shook the air and split the night apart. For a brief moment, everything was nothing but white light. Then the hammer broke through, smashing directly into the Destroyer's chest.
The armored giant stumbled, glowing cracks spreading across its body as if it were about to break apart. But it didn't fall. With a grinding growl, it lifted itself back up, the fire burning even brighter inside its mask.
Alex's eyes narrowed as he muttered, "He'll need more than strength to end this…"
The frost familiar shifted nervously at his side, its cold breath spilling over the broken street. Alex kept his hand resting on its horn but chose not to act. This was Thor's battle, his trial to prove himself. If Alex stepped in now, he would only take that chance away.
The Destroyer slammed its hands together, releasing a shockwave that sent cars flying and shattered the last bits of glass left in the windows. It marched forward, each heavy step leaving behind scorched, burning stone.
Thor caught Mjölnir as it flew back to him, his stance strong and unshaken. His cape whipped wildly in the raging winds as he charged at the Destroyer, this time without hesitation, without pride—only determination. Hammer and fire met again, sparks exploding into the air with every hit. Each counterattack sent bursts of fire out across the ruins. The ground itself trembled under their battle.
From the sidelines, mortals watched with wide eyes, torn between fear and awe at the clash of gods before them.
Jane held onto Erik's arm tightly and whispered through the storm, "He's… he's winning."
For the first time that night, Alex's hardened expression softened. He saw the lightning surrounding Thor, not as reckless force, but as true resolve.
Softly, he murmured, "Good. Then he really is worthy."
The frost familiar gave a deep rumble, its strange glowing eyes fixed on the fight, almost as if it too understood the weight of this moment.
Yet even then—the Destroyer let out another roar, fire bursting from its body, refusing to be defeated.
The Destroyer roared, its body burning like a giant forge. The cracks glowing across its chest sealed shut with a sharp hiss, as if the armor itself refused to break. Fire leaked from its joints, hotter and brighter, almost alive.
Thor tightened his grip on Mjölnir. His breathing was heavy, but his eyes stayed steady. No matter how many times the Destroyer rose again, he met it not with fear—but with thunder.
The giant raised its arm, gathering fire in its palm until it shone like a small sun. The heat warped the air, shaking the ground. It aimed at the mortals—Jane, Erik, and Darcy.
"NO!" Thor shouted. He rushed forward, Mjölnir spinning so fast it blurred, the storm breaking around him. Lightning tore into the blast mid-air, splitting fire apart before it could reach them. The shockwave knocked Thor back, his boots carving into the scorched street. But the mortals were safe.
Jane gasped, her voice shaking. "He's… protecting us."
Alex stood quietly, watching. His frost familiar shifted beside him, restless. But Alex never moved. His calm expression never broke. To him, this fight was clear—it wasn't about power or destruction. It was Thor's test, his chance to prove himself and reclaim what he had lost.
The Destroyer turned again, its heavy steps cracking the ground as it marched. Thor stood tall, bruised but unyielding. Lightning wrapped around him like a crown, his cape snapping in the storm.
This time, Thor did not wait. With a roar that echoed with the storm, he hurled Mjölnir straight into the Destroyer's chest.
The hammer struck harder than before. Lightning burst across the cracks in its armor, ripping through the body of the giant. Fire exploded outward, but the Destroyer faltered. Its mask split open, power spilling uncontrollably.
Then—silence.
The Destroyer staggered, glowing like a dying star before falling to the ground. The fire inside it faded away, leaving only broken, lifeless armor.
Thor walked forward, calm and steady, pulling Mjölnir from the wreckage. Stormlight still sparked around him, but his face was no longer filled with arrogance or doubt. He was simply Thor again—the God of Thunder.
Alex let out a slow breath, a faint smile on his lips. "So… Odin's son finally remembers who he is."
The frost familiar gave a low rumble at his side, as if it too sensed the moment.
Jane stepped closer, her eyes wide in awe. "Thor…" she whispered.
Thor looked back at her, his gaze softening, though the storm still clung to him.
"We can't waste any more time. We should return to Asgard and confront Loki," Sif said firmly.
Thor nodded, his jaw tight. "Yes… I have to face him now." Anger flickered across his face.
Alex stepped forward, his voice calm. "Mind if I come with you? I'm interested in Asgardian magic…"he said and then inwardly added ' and in those hidden rooms and relics your throne keeps under guard.'
Thor looked at Alex, the storm still crackling faintly around him. For a moment, his expression was unreadable, but then he gave a sharp nod.
"A warrior like you… your help may be needed. Very well, Alex. You'll come with us."
Sif looked at Thor with slight surprise but didn't object. Volstagg chuckled under his breath. "If nothing else, the All-Father will find him… interesting."
