Chapter 12 - The Aftermath

 Cassandra's P.O.V.

********** **************** **************** **************

It was quiet. Almost too quiet. As I walked through the woods, it felt as if the forest itself had eyes, and they were watching me with a vengeance. Like a trap waiting to be sprung.

It took me a while to find the garden, which was completely covered in lights. This man, or Nyxen. He was much taller than Mason and Jaydon, who were both over six feet. Where I was closer to five foot five, making me feel more like a kid.

He seemed kind of like a friendly giant. But his body looked like it was sculpted out of solid stone. Thick, muscled arms and legs, that can be seen even through his crisp suit coat and trousers.

Compared to me, it felt as if you could place a plain tree next to a mountain. Especially since we were both checking each other out, in a somewhat obvious way neither wanted to say. We walked towards the ever-growing long party till I broke the charming silence.

"Well, I guess this is where we part ways," I said to him reluctantly.

"Or not," he smirked. He stepped toward me, taking my hand gently, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. His soft eyes and genuine crooked grin stared at me as if he'd known me all my life.

The serene moment was ruined by a crude, shrill tone from the upper terrace.

"Rat !" "Damn you!" "Don't you dare waste my time! Get up here! Now!" The old Master yelled aggressively.

"Who's that ?" He growled.
