"Surround it! Surround it! Prepare the ammunition!"
Dozens of U.S. soldiers swarmed forward, using armored vehicles and the terrain to encircle a Black Hawk helicopter.
At the same time, the movie image filled the entire massive alloy screen.
In the layers of the U.S. military's encirclement, the Black Hawk helicopter on the helipad showed no reaction—an unusually eerie situation.
"Have your crew disembark immediately, or we'll kill you all!"
With the warning echoing from the communicator, the Black Hawk helicopter's engine finally shut down, and its rotating rotor blades suddenly folded together.
Just as that iconic metallic transformation sound rang out, a subtle yet noticeable change occurred on the screen. This IMAX 3D camera-shot scene automatically adjusted to a 1.43:1 ratio, filling the entire 27.3 x 19.7 giant alloy screen.
Then, all the Chinese audience members wearing the latest 3D glasses widened their eyes, mouths slightly open Transformers had, for the first time, truly transformed on the big screen!
On the giant screen covering the entire theater, the dizziness felt within arm's reach of Wang Ziming vividly showcased the process of transforming from a helicopter into a massive humanoid machine. Thousands of parts moved simultaneously, contracting, extending, adjusting all kinds of seemingly impossible transformation actions completed almost instantly.
"Other than Hollywood…" Sitting in the back row, Luo Qinghua muttered to Bi Jun as he watched the unbelievable scene, "I can't think of any other country's film capable of this. Is this the IMAX 3D technology they were promoting?"
"The effect is incredible!" Apart from shock, Bi Jun couldn't find a more fitting adjective.
And as he spoke, Blackout had already launched an assault on the U.S. troops. With ferocious firepower and most soldiers unprepared, the military who had proven decades ago their inability to respond effectively to surprise attacks was overwhelmed almost immediately.
Captain Lennox managed to rally his special ops team and mounted a counterattack against Blackout with their limited weapons. Unfortunately, lacking heavy arms, they couldn't inflict much damage on the Decepticon but did manage to slow his assault.
Duke also used these shots to convey his perspective: though the Transformers possessed immense and even overwhelming power over humans, they were not invincible.
The full IMAX 3D footage had already been running for over two minutes and wasn't yet over. Suddenly, the camera shifted to the skies far from the U.S. military's Qatar base. Two Gulfstream business jets circled overhead. Just as Blackout's devastating attack met resistance, the two jets emitted a strange noise Skywarp and Thundercracker deployed and vanished from the air.
In the next instant, they appeared at low altitude over the Qatar base, transforming in midair with dazzling movements. They landed and launched a deadly assault on the U.S. forces.
At the same time, the ground of the base surged like waves. Several tanks that had just started moving were easily flipped. Sand and concrete blocks flew into the sky, and a massive, menacingly designed scorpion leapt out.
The Scorponok giant used the beam cannon on its tail to destroy the last two mobile armored vehicles, then burrowed underground again.
Faced with this triad of heavy-firepower surprise attackers, the U.S. military's fate was sealed.
Adding Skywarp and Thundercracker, capable of short-range teleportation, and enhancing the Scorponok giant—Duke aimed to amplify the Decepticons' strike power, aligning it with later and sequel-set portrayals of the Decepticons.
Gunfire, shouts, explosions, coupled with towering flames, created an indescribable impact in full IMAX 3D, instantly giving cinema audiences a visual experience more intense than The Dark Knight.
When Blackout shattered the ceiling of the U.S. military command center and grabbed the server with his massive mechanical hand, the image on screen returned to standard 3D format, concluding this five-minute full IMAX segment.
Since he'd accepted sponsorship from the Pentagon, Duke certainly wouldn't forget to showcase the bravery of the U.S. military. Faced with the gravest danger, the military commander still forcefully cut off the server's power.
Much like the earlier film Independence Day, Transformers also employed multiple narrative threads that eventually converged to ignite the climactic battle.
After the opening battle used to hook viewers, the camera shifted to California, USA, focusing on a high school graduate named Sam.
This young man, not yet twenty, had divorced parents and refused to live with either. The first thing he did after graduating high school was move from New York to the small city of Valencia in Greater Los Angeles, having been notified by a lawyer that, according to the will of his grandfather who passed away a few months ago, he would inherit the most valuable part of the Witwicky family legacy.
Sam wasn't just here to inherit; he also planned to find a summer job to earn money for his upcoming studies at the University of California.
Led by the lawyer, he arrived at the old Witwicky family house near a used car lot and saw the most valuable inheritance left by his grandfather.
Nautical charts, sextants, old sailor gear, and a pair of antique glasses belonging to his great-great-grandfather. Picking up the glasses, he recalled his grandfather's stories about a family legend—a captain who once explored the Arctic…
Aside from these were a few thousand dollars in cash.
Having completed the inheritance process smoothly, Sam stood by the window, looking toward the nearby used car lot, thoughts stirring.
Cars could be seen as a rite of passage for boys, but he still didn't own one. Staring at the cash and gear he'd inherited, he was tempted to buy his first car. Whether for working or commuting to college, a car would be very convenient.
More importantly, owning a car might make dating easier.
Especially since he could faintly spot a long-legged blonde beauty at the used car lot—for a boy not yet twenty, was there anything more attractive?
Sam was a typical American youth. The 'family treasure' left by his grandfather paled in comparison to the allure of a car and a beautiful woman. It didn't take long for him to decide to auction everything on Amazon, both to fund a car and pocket some cash.
The next day, Sam went to the car lot. He knew his money couldn't afford a new car. A suitable used car was the wiser option. Maybe it was the blonde from yesterday, but he instinctively walked into that used car lot—thus stepping onto a path forever entwined with the Transformers.
The one who received Sam was the blonde named Mikaela. But this woman was far more difficult than she looked. After a round of bargaining and a mysterious shattering of the car's window, it wasn't until her boss—her father—stepped in that Sam managed to buy the sporty Camaro with racing stripes he'd set his eyes on.
"No car likes a stingy driver," Mikaela said with sultry charm when Sam invited her to lunch. "And no woman would accept an invitation from a guy who brings weird trouble!"
Meanwhile, in another plotline, the Pentagon began a full investigation into the attack on the Qatar base. Iran and North Korea were listed as primary suspects. The Department of Defense recruited a large group of young computer whizzes, who successfully detected Frenzy's intrusion into Air Force One—but failed to capture this joke-making Decepticon.
Frenzy discovered the items Sam had posted for auction online and, after meeting up with Barricade, headed straight for Valencia.
Driving his newly purchased second-hand Camaro, Sam cruised around the small town until nightfall, then returned to the old Witwicky family house. But as he was sleeping that night, he was suddenly awakened by the sound of a car engine starting. To his shock, his newly bought Chevrolet had been stolen! He rushed out of the house, jumped on a bicycle, and while calling the police, took off in pursuit.
This unlucky young man had no idea he was already being tracked by Barricade. The distress signal he sent to the police was intercepted by the Decepticon.
Rushing to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of town, Sam witnessed an unbelievable sight: the car he had just bought came to life, transforming into a large yellow robot with puppy-dog eyes—right in front of his eyes.
The robot didn't seem to notice him. It looked like it was sending a signal into the sky.
Poor Sam accidentally alerted two large guard dogs in the factory. Just as he was being chased to a dead end, the yellow Camaro drove in and scared the dogs away.
The night's events nearly overwhelmed Sam. When an old-fashioned car approached, he made a quick decision—run!
But the transforming car didn't want to let him go, chasing after him. Sam recovered his bicycle, calling the police again as he fled in panic, unknowingly heading back toward the used car dealership. There, he encountered Mikaela, who was just about to close up shop.
"Hey, kid, you shouldn't be here!"
Faced with the beauty's scolding, Sam shouted in a panic, "Why did the car you sold me come to life? Why did it turn into a robot?"
"Are you on drugs or something?"
Just as she was questioning him, a police car drove over. Thinking he had found a savior, Sam ran toward it. Then, right in front of the stunned pair, the police car transformed!
In the moment of crisis, Bumblebee rushed in and rescued Sam. Facing a dangerous robot that normal humans couldn't fight, Mikaela had no choice but to jump into Sam's Chevrolet Camaro.
The film now entered Duke's strongest territory: car chases, fights, and destruction. Bumblebee fought Barricade, while Mikaela and Sam were entangled with Frenzy. Gathering her courage, Mikaela grabbed a small electric saw from the abandoned factory and cut off Frenzy's head—without realizing that it had transformed into a cellphone and slipped into her fallen handbag.
During the intense battle, Bumblebee took down Barricade and used his radio to communicate briefly with the two humans.
At the same time, Captain Lennox's squad encountered the Scorponok giant.
With support from the U.S. Air Force, the military dispatched a large number of aircraft. F-16s, gunships, AWACS, and drones all went into action, bombarding the Scorponok with heavy firepower.
The Decepticons weren't invincible. Despite the Scorponok's fierce combat strength, it was still blown into several pieces under the intense barrage.
Likewise, these two action scenes were filmed entirely using IMAX cameras, delivering a stunning visual impact.
After a brief exchange, Bumblebee took Sam and Mikaela to the suburbs. At 22 minutes and 13 seconds into the film, the true main character, Optimus Prime, finally made his appearance!
