Chapter 334 - 334. Departure, to Lake Saylor

They would not move the entire Easter Hospital to Lake Saylor until the recent research with Maester Adrian was completed.

"My lord!" Boris came over and bowed.

"Well, Boris, help oversee the Easter store and the hospital for a while. When everything is ready, have the soldiers escort you to Lake Saylor."

Jason Liu spoke as he walked toward the scientists and others. "Scientists, Bud, Marb, I'm leaving the lumber mill in your hands!"

"Yes, my lord, we will definitely manage this place for you and never allow anyone to violate the laws you've set!" said Bud, who was in charge of trials at the logging yard, solemnly.

Marb was in charge of security at the logging camp, but punishment of criminals was not his responsibility.

The Bachelor of Science mainly managed assistants and handled the logistics and daily affairs of the "200" logging farm.

This setup was equivalent to a separation of military, political, and legal powers.

Well, separating military and political powers at such a small logging farm did seem a bit humorous!

Jason Liu only arranged it this way to keep their responsibilities clearly defined—

—to avoid management confusion.

After all, Bud and Marb were both young and inexperienced. Each was in charge of a different aspect, and that alone was probably already pushing their limits.

Soon, it was time to depart.

At nine o'clock in the morning, the northern air was crisp and slightly cold, and the wind biting on the face was sharp. Even the warm breath from people's mouths came out white.

Jon mounted his horse, leading 100 cavalry and 50 crossbow archers, and rode at the head of the column.

Following them were 400 carriages, lined up nearly 3,000 meters long, slowly moving forward.

Flanking the 200 carriages that carried the elderly, women, and children were 5,000 men in uniform clothing, each holding a wooden spear, forming two long lines on either side, protecting the carriages from the outside.

Behind the freight carriages, five large luxury carriages followed.

In the first, second, and third carriages sat over 80 masons from Old Torrhen's Square.

These masons made up nearly the entire population of craftsmen near Winterfell.

Still, Jason Liu felt the number wasn't enough.

He planned to reach Lake Saylor and then send someone to White Harbor—400 kilometers east of the lake—to recruit more.

In the fourth large carriage were Bachelors and a few assistants, responsible for the medical needs of everyone headed to Lake Saylor. They also brought a large supply of medicine.

The final luxury carriage held Jason Liu himself. He rode with Lena and Bella.

His captain, Dicken , and bodyguard Kent rode outside the carriage, followed by 100 archers and 50 cavalry guards on horseback.

These 500 soldiers all wore stab-proof suits, riot helmets, and carried high-carbon steel swords at their waists. In terms of protection, they were the best-equipped force in Westeros.

The entire procession stretched nearly 4,000 meters. This couldn't be helped; the dirt road from Winterfell to White Harbor wasn't wide. Two carriages couldn't travel side by side, so they had to proceed in single file, forming a long line.

The group departed and gradually left the lumber mill behind.

Along the way, they passed merchants traveling between Winterfell and White Harbor. These people were startled by the enormous convoy.

Especially when they saw the 5,000 men dressed in uniform, holding wooden spears, marching in two strict lines on either side—they assumed it was a full army.

Fearing trouble, the merchants quickly pulled their carts aside and waited quietly as the long line passed.

On the carriages, children were held in their mothers' arms or nestled against their grandparents, curiously peeking out at the merchants waiting by the roadside.

The children in the same carriage chatted excitedly with one another.

Their laughter lightened the mood of what would have been a dull journey.

The men walking beside the carriages couldn't help smiling when they heard the cheerful voices of the women and children.

They were deeply grateful to the merciful Lord Jason, who had sent so many carriages to transport their families. There was hardly a more benevolent lord in the world than Jason of Easter.

They felt proud to be subjects of the Easter family and truly supported Lord Jason Liu in their hearts.

He was a truly respectable man.

Stopping and moving again along the road, the column chose a flat patch of wasteland around noon to rest and eat.

The cooks and their helpers unloaded dozens of large iron pots from the supply carriages and built makeshift stoves from stones.

Someone carried plastic buckets to fetch water from the Bairen River a few miles away.

The elderly who had disembarked gathered weeds and brush to start fires.

The women helped cut vegetables and baked bread.

The men drove all the carriages into a protective ring around the camp.

This was Jason Liu's strict order: whether resting or camping overnight, the 400 carriages had to form an outer barricade.

No one dared to disobey.

The 5,000 men in black stab-resistant uniforms unhitched their horses, gave them water, fed them hay cakes and boiled eggs, and allowed them to rest properly.

Jason Liu took Lena and Bella to a corner of the camp, guarded by 50 bodyguards and 100 archers, with five luxury carriages parked nearby.

Jon was assisting several assistants, and more than 80 masons in setting up the camp.

Rubin and Chris led 200 soldiers as captains, organizing the 5,000 young men to keep watch and guard the perimeter.

Lord Jason had said they still didn't know what dangers might lie ahead, so they must remain alert and cautious on the journey.

Jason Liu sat at a round table set up by his guards, which had been removed from his carriage.

A 1-meter-diameter round table was fixed inside the carriage with clamps, which could be unfastened and brought outside when needed.

Lena and Bella, along with a few young maids selected from commoner families, prepared lunch for Lord Jason.

The families of these modest yet pretty peasant girls were delighted to hear their daughters would become maids in the Easter household. They happily allowed Lena to take them.

Jason Liu didn't say much about it. He had left all matters of servants to Lena. Having more maids was no problem at all.
