"I AM HERE!"
Izuku, Iida and Todoroki all stopped their conversation as they heard the familiar greeting.
They whipped their heads to the door to see All Might enter, along with Gran Torino, Manual and a guy with the head of a dog.
"Sensei?" Izuku questioned "Shouldn't you be taking class or something right now?"
"I would be" All Might said with an annoyed glare at Izuku "If someone hadn't decided to get into such a mess."
"…my bad."
"before all of that, allow me to say something" the dog man interrupted with a cough "I am Hosu's chief of police, Kenji Tsuragamae."
Izuku, Iida and Todoroki moved to stand up, but the man raised his hand.
"You all can just stay seated, Woof."
'Woof?'
"you must be the lot who defeated the hero killer, yes? He is under strict guard, and receiving treatment for serious injuries. His right arm in particular was in bad shape"
He looked at Izuku at that.
Izuku didn't back down, looking straight at the man's eyes.
The man acted like he didn't notice Izuku's defiance, opting to continue.
He gave a speech on history and ethics about being a hero. Stuff Izuku knew since he was like 10, but didn't interrupt.
And then he talked about them violating rules.
And Izuku wasn't having any of that.
Neither was Todoroki, apparently.
"If Iida hadn't come, Native would have died" Todoroki said as he stood up "and if Midoriya hadn't come, both of them would have died. No one knew that the Hero Killer had appeared. Are you saying we should have followed the rules and watched them die?"
"are you saying that as long as it ends up okay, it's alright to bend the rules?"
"but it's not bending." Izuku said as he stood up as well "as a holder of the emergency use license, I have complete rights to using and permitting use of quirks in combat."
All Might clapped his hand on Izuku's shoulder.
"No matter how reckless his actions may have been, they were done with permission. I, the Hero All Might, completely endorse and support the actions of Intern 'Beacon', and those he says have aided him."
The dog man had some sort of staring contest with All Might, who looked right back with no sign of faltering.
"…you're going to have to be the one in front of the press tomorrow then, woof."
Izuku blinked.
"what?"
"I was never planning on having you three be put in trouble over this. Since Stain's wounds matched his style, I was planning on handing over the credit to Endeavour. You'd have been both credit and problem free."
He looked back at All Might.
"I should have informed you of this before all this All Might, sorry about that."
"It matters not!" All Might said cheerily "Those who do good, deserve to be recognized!"
The chief nodded, turning to leave the room "anyway, the press conference tomorrow would have been for Endeavour, but now you're going to be the one in front of the camera."
Izuku nodded, slightly nervous.
"…I look forward to see how your future turns out, Light Hero Beacon."
With that, he left.
And the three students let out a breath they hadn't even known they were holding.
"You three"
And the breath went back in.
The three turned slowly to see All Might frowning slightly.
"What you three have done is beyond reckless. As a hero, I'm proud. As your teacher, I am furious. If it wasn't for the fact that Midoriya-shounen is interning under me, I would have no involvement in this! His word alone would not hold much weight, so things wouldn't have ended this nicely."
The three nodded.
"You won't face any disciplinary action from UA this time, purely due to a technicality. However, if this every happens again, allowed under the law or not; you will be punished. Midoriya-shounen, I'll see you tomorrow at the press conference."
"You're gonna be there?" Izuku asked.
"as your mentor, of course I will be."
With that, he left off, probably to take a class.
"kid."
Izuku whipped his head to see Gran Torino's displeased expression.
"what was the one thing I said to you during the rescue effort?"
"…fight only if you have to?"
"and did you do that?"
"I think I did. I was completely focused on rescue till I realized what was going on, and made sure to send my location to everyone" Izuku said with resolve.
Torino-sensei sighed.
"you're exactly right kid."
He looked over all three of them.
"remember today, kids! The system is there to help us, but it's also a major pain in the ass sometimes!"
With those golden words of wisdom, he left.
Iida got scolded by manual after that, and Izuku left the room to pick up a call from Momo.
"You're going to be interviewed!?"
Izuku winced at her volume.
"yeah. With All Might beside me too."
"That's amazing!" she exclaimed "that's just…wow!"
"Anyway, how's it going with Ryukyu?"
"She's amazing!" Momo said, bubbliness not lowering at all "she took me and a senior called Nejire Hado out to fly the other day, I got to see the sky above the clouds! It was breathtaking."
"Oh, nice! I still can't sustain flight for long enough to go that high" Izuku lamented.
"I'm sure it'll be amazing when you do finally do it. Ryukyu said that when she started out she'd spend half the day above the clouds, only going down when alerted."
Izuku hummed in thought.
"I'm not going to let you laze around like that Izuku, so I'd suggest you stop fantasizing about that."
"Let a guy dream! How'd you even know I was thinking about that?"
"All Might! Why have you decided to take an intern in your agency, after all these years?"
The questioning was aggressive.
Right out the gate, doubts of Izuku's qualifications, of his ability to kick villain ass, and of him using up All Might's precious time flooded the room.
"Beacon-san, what exactly is your quirk? You seemed to be doing two completely unrelated things during your sports festival debut."
Izuku smiled, finally getting a break from this storm of annoying statements.
"My quirk makes it so that I'm made of light. All attacks pass through me, and I'm obviously very fast."
"But that doesn't explain that black energy" the brown-haired woman insisted.
"It's the same ability, just much more compressed" Izuku lied "it basically me pushing my light into itself, changing from bright to dark and speed based to strength based."
Of course, Haki didn't actually change his fighting style in any way, but he figured he might as well give villains a red herring.
Also, it sounded really cool.
"What is it you wish to prove by taking down the Hero Killer?" a frowning old man asked.
"Prove?" Izuku blinked "I wasn't trying to prove anything. I was trying to see if anyone was left unaccounted for during the whole Hosu thing, and I literally ran into him."
All Might's laughter interrupted the reporter's retort.
"Indeed! To chance upon a villain is sadly not something rare in today's world! Yet, being able to take them down, especially when they're as dangerous as Hero Killer Stain is something to be commended over!"
The reporter got the message.
He did something good, stop trying to be an ass.
After that little speech from All Might, all the questions turned into more general ones, asking about the sports festival and other things.
"Damn" Izuku sighed as he walked alongside the deflated Yagi-Sensei "Is that always so tiring?"
"Not for me, no" his mentor said "When I started out though? The idea that someone was helping just to help was something many people questioned…loudly."
Izuku sighed again.
"Now what? Do I go back to patrolling?"
"well, I took leave for the whole day" his mentor said "and I did promise you atleast one patrol together."
A grin dawned on Izuku's face.
"Race you to Might tower!" he yelled, launching himself into the sky with a jump and dashing to Tokyo in a streak of light.
And then he heard a booming laugh, followed by a red, blue and yellow streak rushing past him.
'God damn it.'
[DETROIT SMASH]
All Might didn't flinch, absorbing the punch with a block from his left arm while cocking back his right fist.
[GET BACK!]
Yeah, no shit.
Izuku jumped back, going left to dodge the punch.
"Too Predictable!"
All Might's punch never came, instead being replaced by a leap that let him knee Izuku right in the gut.
[BLOCK!]
Izuku went flying (not in the fun way) and landed in a crumpled heap.
"You could have just grazed me" He complained, standing back up "I knew it was coming, and I still couldn't get my hands up"
"Pain is the greatest teacher, young Midoriya!" All Might said with his ever-present grin "Now, clean yourself up and meet me at the roof in 10 minutes. We're still on duty!"
