As Nico and Kai continued their drive across country to somewhere in Washington for coordinates left by their dad on a note in a box containing the whereabouts of a small cabin, they picked up on their radio about a killing in a small city they passed over an hour ago. "Should we turn around and check it out? It might be something for us to check in with to make sure it's normal and nothing supernatural about it." Nico pulled over at the side of the road and thought for a moment, "Yeah, let's go check it out even though I doubt it'll be of any interest to us. It sounds like just a normal murder." Nico drove off again until he could turn around and start driving to the city of Keystone, South Dakota.
After an hour of driving, they arrive at the crime scene at Cruzzers and steps out of the car and walk up to the entrance. "Hey! Stop, this is an active crime scene on going, if you continue I'll charge you." Said an officer running up to the boys, Nico and Kai pulled out FBI badges, "I'm agent Lee and this is my partner Smith, and we got sent out here to investigate this case." Kai said to the officer before putting away his badge. Nico followed, putting his badge away in his jacket pocket. "Ah, my apologies then, agents. Well, I'll fill you in on everything we've got so far, It's a cold end so far, no fingerprints, no ID left behind, nothing whatsoever to go on. But, we did get some CCTV footage that we're trying to put together as we speak in the building if you'd like to see it." Nico speaks up, "Yes, we'd love to see that footage."
"Alright then, follow me. For the record, I'm Officer Adam." As Nico and Kai followed the officer inside and took them to the back room where the security cameras are connected to the computers. "Alright, you all need to get out of here for a few minutes while me and my partner work our way through the footage." Kai said, looking around the room seeing 4 different people in uniform here.
The officers quickly stood up from the chairs and walked out, while Nico and Kai sat down and began to go through the footage from the past 4 hours. "Did we ever even get an ID on the vic? I don't remember the officer giving us a name, last name, or anything to identify the vic." Nico said, "Hm, now that you mention it, no. We haven't gotten anything yet, but then again we never asked, so I can't blame anyone." Nico shrugged and continued to watch the footage.
After an hour of watching the footage. "Yeah, I don't think this is anything to concern ourselves with, man." Nico said getting a bit agitated from sitting around for so long not doing anything. "Listen, Nico, we only have a few hours left of watching then we can hit the road again if we see nothing." Nico sighed and stopped complaining to watch the footage again and 20 minutes goes by before they see someone walk in and the cameras glitch before it cuts to a few minutes after the 911 call came in. "Hey, yo stop the camera there and go back a few seconds." Kai said, looking at the bottom camera, Nico rewound it and zoomed in on the person. "Huh, alright, so maybe this is a case for us to investigate…" Nico said, looking at the pure white eyes on the man's face when he looked up at the camera before vanishing after the cameras came back to normal.
Nico and Kai got up and left the security room but took the CCTV hard drive with them and got Nico back into the car to start it while Kai spoke to officer Adams again. "So can I get a name on our vic here and maybe family members that live anywhere near here or some friends?" Officer Adams spoke up after a moment, "Well, her name was Charlie Carson. She was a devoted member of our church down the road here, I would see her every Sunday without a single fail of showing up for the past I don't even know, maybe 5 years? She was 28, not married from my knowledge, but here's an address of her only family member that lives in the city." Adams wrote down an address on a small piece of paper and handed it to Kai before Kai walked to the car and got in, and they drove off to the address.
Continuing driving after an hour. "Did they really give us a right address? They said it was in town or something, right? Why are we driving over a damn hour to get here…" Nico said while looking out the windshield around the fields on his left and his right. Kai looked right and left a few times and sighed, "Maybe It's just a big city? It would make sense if all of this farmland is included in the city limits."
Nico sighed and just kept driving for a few minutes before looking up at a sign and sees the address on a mailbox and slows down. "Look at that up there." Kai looks up from the GPS, "Shit, finally we found it. Why is it down such an old and dirt road though?" "We can't really complain though, right? At least it's not in the middle of…hold that thought we are in the middle of nowhere." Kai looked over at Nico and laughed for a short minute before Nico turned down the road and kept driving up to the land and parked before going up to the door and knocks on it. After a few minutes, there's no answers and Nico stood back and kicked the door in. "You take this floor, and I'll take the upstairs and let's see what we can find. Afterward, we handle the basement together." Kai nodded in agreement and began to scan over the rooms starting in the kitchen, opening cabinets, the fridge finding old food from at least a year old. "Disgusting…" Kai said to himself before continuing searching the kitchen and moved to the living room in the next room. Meanwhile, with Nico upstairs.
"This place is just giving me a weird vibe… I'm not sure what it is though, but I definitely don't like it." Nico thought to himself, then grabbed his gun with silver bullets loaded and began to scan each room slowly with his flashlight and gun in his hands. After a few minutes of scanning the three bedrooms upstairs, Nico put his gun down slightly before making his way downstairs to Kai.
"Did you find anything? Upstairs was a shithole, it had nothing whatsoever. No sulfur, no ectoplasm, not even a weird smell. It just gave me a weird vibe." Kai closing the final cabinet in the living room and stands up. "Basically, same here, however, I did find this." Kai lifted a map with a circle drawn in red over some sort of lake. Nico walked closer and looked at the map. "Is there seriously no land markings near the damn lake?" "None. I've looked at the map from the front, behind, sideways, even upside down." Kai and Nico both sighed before looking around the floor and not finding any door or stairs leading to a basement. "So, no basement search I guess?" Nico looked over at Kai standing next to him. "I guess so… was this entire thing just a setup to waste time?" Nico then proceeds to put his gun away and puts on safety before walking out of the house and Kai follows shortly after doing another small run of checking the corners and not finding anything. They both head to the car and get back in. "So what's next?" "I say we put plans on hold, book a motel in the next town over, and stay for a few days just to see if anything else pops up near here. To be safe, we did in fact check everything about that creepy ass house." They both got comfortable and Nico started the car and began driving to the nearest town over which was thirty-seven miles from the house.
