Chapter 378 - Incongruence

[March 1st DxD/October 22nd DBT]

'Hmmm? Did something go wrong...?' Vahn wondered, passing through the tentatively named Mortalizing Dragon's Gate—finding himself in a verdant forest teeming with life. Light from the sun above produced angular shafts of light that lit a predominantly moss-bedded ground, but what caught his attention wasn't the scenery. It was the fact that, as he routinely checked his Status, he noticed his parameters hadn't changed.

(I didn't notice any abnormalities with the gate. But the flow of time here is approximately ten times faster than Termina's) remarked Sis, checking and double-checking the transdimensional path they had used to access their current world: AK-1147.

'That explains the conflict in my processing speed...' noted Vahn, closing his eyes and focusing his nine separate minds. There was little difference between one and ten seconds when he could process information faster than the speed of light, but it took a moment to account for the difference across multiple perspectives. Luckily, he had a fair amount of practice due to his occasional use of Time Compression Barriers.

Finishing reconciling the differences in his perspectives, at least until he was required to react to something moving with extreme velocity, Vahn opened his eyes and took stock of his surroundings. If there was nothing wrong with the transfer, that meant he had found himself in a world where B and A-Rank Parameters weren't considered out of place. With the latter being the threshold for destroying entire planets, that meant there was a non-negligible chance he could encounter one or more beings capable of defeating him without the use of his Authority.

Excited by the prospect, a faint smile adorned Vahn's face as he spread his Domain, instantly encompassing a semi-spherical area ten kilometers in diameter. This strained his connection to his other bodies, but since he didn't want to draw attention by flying around carelessly, it was the most effective way to get a grasp of his surroundings and update his Map.

'So I'm in a place called the Forbidden Forest...' noted Vahn, his brows rising slightly when he saw thousands of tiny red dots populate his Map, each indicating an enemy. Through his Domain, he could make out that they were small, shadow-formed creatures with glowing white eyes, thin arms that protruded from their heads like antennae, and hats formed from leaves, bark, and common forest detritus.

'Hmmm...they're more cute than threatening...' thought Vahn, shifting his attention from the tiny creatures to what his Map denoted as southeast of his position. There, represented by two green and two yellow dots on his Map, were two girls and their long-necked, bipedal, bulging-eyed, raptor-like mounts. One resembled an Elf with long, pointy ears, pale blonde hair fixed into a tufted ponytail. The other was shorter, with earth-brown skin and fluffy, moss-green hair that extended past her shoulders. Both were sporting hide-formed, mantle-style parkas with thick-furred white collars and hoods, but the girl with darker skin drew Vahn's interest as the rest of her visible outfit was formed from woven leaves. A large, off-white, three-petal flower adorned the left side of her head, her feet were bare, and the fasteners for her extremely scant, leaf-formed clothing were formed from wood and twine.

'Is she a Dryad...?' Vahn wondered, teleporting closer to the duo so he could retract his Domain. He could sense a powerful life force from both of the notably thick girls, the Elf having an impressive affinity with Wind and Ice, while the Dryad, as could be expected, had affinities with Water and Earth.

"Who goes there...!?" shouted the Elf, her elongated ear twitching before she leaped from the log she was seated on, protecting the Dryad with her body and aiming an energy-formed arrow at Vahn as he appeared with his hands raised, responding, "My name is Vahn Mason. And as suspicious as it is for me to appear before you like this in the middle of a forest, I am not your enemy."

"Put your bow away, Eva! This must be who the Sadida God sent us to find...!" exclaimed the Dryad, rising behind her friend and demonstrating an exceptional lack of vigilance as she stepped around her, brought her hands together as if she were praying, her brown eyes glistening as she revealed, "Greetings, friend. My name is Amalia Sheran Sharm, Princess of the Sadida Kingdom and daughter of the Sadida King. And this here is my good friend and guardian, Evangelyne the Cra."

Hearing the girl introduce herself as a Princess, Vahn's brows perked as he quickly sized her up without breaking eye contact. Her skirt was quite literally three leaves hugging her waist, and beneath her parka, he could sense she was wearing a crop-top formed from straw. The only piece of proper fabric she was wearing was off-white cotton panties, matching the color of her top, so while she was certainly a looker, he found it difficult to imagine she was who she claimed to be.

Deciding to err on the side of courtesy, Vahn smiled, placed his right hand over his heart, and offered a slight nod before expressing, "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Princess Amalia, Guardian Evangelyne. Since we are providing titles, allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Vahn Mason, also known as the Dragon God of Infinite Possibilities."

"Did you say Dragon God...!?" exclaimed Amalia, her eyes widening to their limits. Meanwhile, Evangelyne glared, her pale, yellow-green eyes fixed on Vahn as she sardonically asked, "Aren't Dragons supposed to be large, scaly creatures with wings and horns? With your skin tone and hair color, you look more like a Sacrier or a Rogue..."

"But look at his ears..." said Amalia, drawing Evangelyne's gaze to Vahn's uncharacteristically rounded ears. Sacriers and Rogues had long, pointed ears. The only Classes with rounded ears were Pandawas, Sadidas, and some Fecas, but if Vahn were any of those, his body would be covered in black-and-white fur, his head would be covered in moss, or his hair would be blue.

"Is this more convincing...?" asked Vahn, his ears growing long and pointy, ivory-white scales covering them, his hands, his arms, and the sides of his face, and gold, antler-like horns protruding from his scalp. His eyes turned a similar shade of gold, and to complete the transformation, a long, white-scaled, golden-tufted tail unfurled from behind his back, sweeping behind him.

"Are you seeing this, Eva!? It's a real, honest-to-goodness Dragon! And he even says he's a God...!" exclaimed Amalia, clenching her held up fists and stomping her bare feet excitedly. As for Evangelyne, Eva, she wore a look of abject shock, her jaw slack as she alternated her gaze between each of Vahn's draconic features.

"Do you want to try touching to confirm I'm real...?" asked Vahn, his tone playful as he extended his golden-clawed right hand and flipped it over, exposing his ivory-white palm, covered in iridescent hide resembling the belly of a snake. Eva was still too stunned to move, but the 158cm Amalia ran forward, startling her Cra guardian as she didn't hesitate to place her hand atop Vahn's, her brown eyes gleaming even more than before as she excitedly remarked, "Oh, wow...I thought it would be hard, but it's actually really soft..."

"This is merely a partial transformation..." stated Vahn, causing Amalia to gaze up at him with expectant eyes as he revealed, "My complete form is considerably larger and, as you suspect, hard..."

"Really!? Could you show me...!?" pleaded Amalia, grabbing Vahn's hand with both of her own and drawing it somewhat precariously close to her modest but shapely breasts. He could feel the heat from her body, but as it was nothing he hadn't felt before, he smiled casually and responded, "I don't want to concern anyone that happens to live nearby. Perhaps some other time."

"Please excuse us for a moment, your Dragon Godliness..." lamented Eva, grabbing and pulling away a resisting Amalia as Vahn watched the two of them with a relaxed smile. He couldn't help but notice that both girls had thinner waists, broader hips, perkier butts, and thicker arms and legs than the average across Invirtua, but instead of permitting his gaze to wander, he turned his attention to the fire the two had been attending—over which were lizard skewers bound by what looked like roots.

'Not food one would expect a Princess to eat...did the two of them get lost...?' Vahn wondered, stealing a glance at the two conversing by their goofy-looking mounts before leaving them to their business and making his way over to the tiny campfire. He was hoping the conspicuous duo could provide him with information on the world he had found himself in, so, in the hopes of loosening their lips and establishing a positive rapport, he produced a camping grill and a frying pan from his Inventory, causing a sizzling sound to echo and a fragrant aroma to permeate the makeshift campsite as he began preparing a meal.

"What are you making? It smells really good," remarked Amalia, standing behind Vahn with her hands on his shoulders, unabashedly leaning most of her weight onto him as she sniffed at the fragrant fumes rising up from the pan.

"Rainbow Galala Gator Steak with King's Regalia Mushrooms~" answered Vahn, leaving Amalia and Eva with more questions than answers, as they had never heard of such creatures. What they did know was that—based on smell alone—the food Vahn was preparing was delicious. So much so that they were certain that if they ate it, it would be the tastiest food they had ever eaten.

"If you really are who you claim to be, what brings a God like yourself to the material world?" asked Eva, sitting on the log across from Vahn before closing and turning her legs slightly to the side to prevent him from being able to see up her short, barely wrist-length black skirt. Unfortunately for her, Vahn knew she was wearing simple black panties. He even knew she had her name written along the interior band.

"Happenstance," responded Vahn, flipping the seven-centimeter-thick, two-kilogram steak before meeting Eva's gaze and clarifying, "I have a habit of dropping into random worlds to observe the people and lend a hand when the need arises. Why do you ask?"

Since Vahn hadn't said anything about her leaning on him, Amalia took things a step further by crossing her arms on his shoulders and leaning forward, her breasts pressing not-so-subtly against the back of his head as she unhestiantly revealed, "Two nights ago, I had a prophetic dream. Sadida told me to go to the Forbidden Forest for a special mission. That means we were destined to meet each other."

"Hmmm...I don't doubt your words, Princess, but I shouldn't be able to appear in prophetic dreams," stated Vahn, preempting Amalia's response by offering, "But since our paths have crossed, I can escort you until you encounter those your dream foretold you would meet."

"And what if we don't meet anyone? Does that mean you'll escort me the rest of my life~?" asked Amalia, the weight and softness against the back of Vahn's head increasing. The latter couldn't help but notice an aroma of moss and mulch wafting from her, but it was second to the fragrance of the flower adorning her hair and the sweet, honey-like pheromones rising from her body.

"I have other worlds and duties to attend to, but unless something major comes up, I should be able to accompany you as long as needed," stated Vahn, producing a fair amount of pink-hued salt and sprinkling it over the increasingly fragrant and juicy steak. He was well aware that Amalia was flirting with him, but it was fun to play ignorant from time to time.

Feeling somewhat annoyed by how composed Vahn was, Amalia briefly considered what she could do to make him pay attention to her. He was easily the most handsome boy she had ever seen, and his aura reminded her of the Tree of Life. His energy felt distinctly different from Wakfu, but she could tell his life force was incredible—maybe even infinite.

"Princess..." droned Eva, snapping Amalia out of the daze she had fallen into just before she buried her face into Vahn's hair and gave him a deep inhale. Her cheeks burned when she realized what she was about to do, but before she could make excuses and try to justify her actions, Vahn's voice cut through everything as he removed the lid he had used to cover the steak, humming, "It's finished~" in a deep, sing-song tone.
