"Am I seeing this right? Good heavens—Diaz's third Pokémon is none other than the incarnation of the North Wind itself, Suicune!"
The moment Suicune appeared on the battlefield, the Johto-born announcer leapt to his feet, his voice trembling with excitement as he shouted into the mic.
"Wooooaahhh!!!"
The crowd erupted. Nearly every Johto native in the stands was on their feet, faces flushed with awe. Suicune's arrival drowned the arena in a storm of cheers.
"This is bad… really bad. All the effort Swampert put into creating this muddy swamp terrain might be wasted now."
Sato's heart sank. Suicune wasn't just majestic—it purified. Just by stepping onto the field, the murky waters around it were already clearing back into crystal blue.
Through his system's detection ability, Sato quickly confirmed what his eyes already suspected: this Suicune was in a different league compared to the other legendaries Tobias had used so far.
Its individual values ranked in the golden tier, higher than the purple-tier Regirock, Zapdos, and Moltres he had seen earlier. No wonder Sato had found it odd—true legendaries usually came with peak stats.
He recalled vividly how the Darkrai he had encountered at Mt. Pyre had been perfect-IV, a true monster.

"Smart move. Using Suicune to reset the field was the best choice. Swampert's advantage is gone, and with its ability to skim across the surface of the water faster than it can walk on land, Swampert won't be able to pin it down—it'll just get kited."
From the stands, Chris—her beauty still radiant despite her age—smiled faintly. She knew Suicune well; in fact, all of Tobias's legendaries had come to him through her. Truthfully, she had been reluctant to hand this particular one over.
This Suicune wasn't just another clone. It was premium. Instead of being created from scraps like hair or scales, it had been cloned using actual flesh from a genuine Suicune, supplemented with rare, precious materials. Because of that, it had inherited abilities most cloned legendaries could not—most importantly, Suicune's unique gift to purify water.
Of course, its purification wasn't nearly as divine as the real Suicune's, but even retaining a fraction of that power was remarkable. By contrast, Tobias's cloned Zapdos couldn't even summon storm clouds—proof that not all clones were created equal.
The audience gasped as the rain abruptly ceased. The heavy storm Pelipper had summoned with Drizzle finally gave out, the clouds scattered, and sunlight broke through.
"You've done enough, Swampert. Come back and rest."
Sato recalled Swampert without hesitation. Swampert looked almost relieved; against Suicune, especially on clear waters, its chances were slim.
"Your turn, Crobat!"
Sato tossed a Luxury Ball skyward. In a flash of light, a Crobat larger than most of its species appeared, wings spread wide, glaring at Suicune with predatory intent.
"Here we go! In response to Diaz's Suicune, Kira Hayashi has withdrawn Swampert and chosen the highly mobile Crobat! What kind of thrilling showdown will these two trainers show us next?"
The announcer's voice rang out as the referee dropped his flag, signaling the start of a new round.
"Suicune, Tailwind—then Rain Dance!"
Tobias, satisfied at having unraveled Sato's swamp strategy, wasted no time.
The North Wind was no ordinary Water-type. Though not Flying-type, Suicune had a natural gift for controlling wind currents. As it dashed across the water's surface, streams of white air spiraled around its body, accelerating it faster and faster.
Crobat dove first, slashing the air into blades of white energy and hurling them down. But Suicune was too fluid, too fast—especially under Tailwind. Each blade missed by inches as it weaved gracefully across the water.
Then Suicune tilted its head skyward. Instantly, clouds gathered once more. Within moments, dark rainclouds rolled overhead, and with Suicune's cry, another torrential downpour began.
The audience roared as they witnessed the divine spectacle: Suicune, light as air, skimming across water as rain cascaded around it.
"Perfect. Don't let Crobat get away—close in with Waterfall!"
Tobias grinned. With rain active, Water-type attacks were boosted by 50%. Combined with STAB, Waterfall hit harder than even Ice Beam, despite type advantage. And against Crobat's blistering speed, close-range was the only way to guarantee a hit.
"Crobat—Mean Look."
But Sato's eyes gleamed. He didn't look worried—in fact, he looked pleased. Telepathically, he gave Crobat the command. His real plan was simple: trap Suicune so it couldn't be recalled.
Crobat's four wings flared, propelling it like a streak of violet lightning. Its eyes burned crimson, releasing a sinister glare that ensnared Suicune. For a heartbeat, ghostly red eyes blinked open across Suicune's body before vanishing. The lock was set.
But the delay cost Crobat dearly. Suicune seized the opening, surged upward on a wave, and slammed into Crobat with a devastating Waterfall.
The bat screeched as it was driven from the air, smashed into the water's surface. In a flash, Tobias commanded Whirlpool. The vortex engulfed Crobat, trapping it, before Suicune unleashed a thunderous Hydro Pump that finished the job.
Crobat fainted.
Though victorious, Tobias's smile faded. He knew the trap had sprung. Crobat's Mean Look meant Suicune was now locked on the field until it was defeated. Sato was already scheming his next counter.
"You did well, Crobat. Rest now. Leave the rest to your teammates."
Sato recalled his fallen partner with quiet regret. Crobat's prime had passed—it lacked the raw firepower or unique traits to carry battles anymore, relegated instead to support.
"Your turn—Gyarados! Show them the might of a tyrant!"
Sato hurled a Water-blue PokéBall.
The stadium shook as a massive Shiny Gyarados burst forth, crashing into the flooded field with an explosion of water.
"ROOOOAAARRR!!!"
Its Intimidate surged forth, amplified by its special ability-Tyrant. The sheer pressure it exuded silenced the crowd. Fans who had been cheering for Suicune froze, faces pale, some collapsing unconscious under the crushing aura.
Even the referee trembled. When Gyarados's crimson eyes fell on him, he could barely stand, too shaken to speak.
"A Shiny… that's a Shiny Gyarados! Incredible! After Miss Clair's Shiny Kingdra, we're seeing yet another Shiny of this rarity in this event—and it's the terrifying Gyarados!"
The announcer stammered into his mic after several long seconds, forcing his voice past the oppressive fear.
But the crowd didn't answer. Not a soul cheered.
Emergency staff rushed out with Grass-types capable of Aromatherapy to treat those overwhelmed by Gyarados's aura.
"Sato has such a rare Shiny too? And it's a Gyarados… Daisy, how have you never told me this?" Whitney whispered, her face pale.
"This must be the one he caught on that island," Daisy replied, eyes fixed on the beast. "Grandfather never mentioned it—but there's no doubt. That thing is terrifying. Diaz's Suicune won't have an easy time."
The battle had stalled, the atmosphere suffocated by Gyarados's presence. Only after swift intervention from staff did the match resume.
Yet even then, the audience dared not cheer. Their awe was laced with fear.
Viewers at home, however, erupted in shock. A Shiny Gyarados versus Suicune was a clash they would never forget.
But Gyarados cared nothing for them. Its eyes were locked solely on Suicune, the only opponent worthy of its wrath, as it awaited Sato's command to strike.
