Chapter 4 - Episode 3

Burst Support? That was definitely a new class. Maybe that's why the panel from before said that my class was unidentifiable. I still wonder though... What made this support class different?

"Class description." Was what you would say if you want to know about your class's fighting style and origin. Origin as in what classes create it if it's hybrid.

A window popped up in front of the larger one.

———————————

Burst Support: A support/warrior class with the purpose of heavily increasing one's damage output while healing the injuries taken.

———————————

A support and warrior hybrid class? I guess that makes sense since my dad is in the warrior class. It's too bad I didn't get my mom's ranger class, though.

My mom... I ran past her, but how would she react if she knew if I was a support class? Even if I'm a hybrid and I have this blessing of the goddess, that won't change the way people look at me. If anything, she'll probably check on me later. I know that I'm being a horrible person for this, but I still can't look at her right now. Especially after I ignored her and ran straight to my room. I just can't imagine her looking me with disgust like how those other people did. But for now, I want to focus on what's more important; years of importance more than the opinions of others; the fact that I'm the representative of the Goddess of Alleviation.

If she chose a representative, then that must mean she wants something, right? I never got any other information aside from the first window I got, but looking at my general information window... There was a quest?

———————————

Defeat C-Ranked Venators, Elijah Gunnar and Jaelyne Stone

Rewards: A Null-Rank Skill and a word with the Goddess of Alleviation

———————————

Those two, huh? I never thought I would ever have to be associated with them again, but if that's what the goddess wants, then it's what I'll do. I'll definitely need to prepare myself, though; they are C-ranked Venators after all. Not the strongest, but definitely up in the ranks in terms of strength.

I'll get started with actual training tomorrow. But first, I should at least get used to some of the other skills I received.

...

Things have still been quiet since yesterday and my mom hasn't approached me yet. She's always respected my privacy, which is what I love most about her, but I guess it would be best if I'm the one who initiated the conversation. But first, I sort of got a gist of what skills I have so far.

Most of them are standard healing, buffs, and cleansing skills, all of which are staples for a support. However, there are a few outliers that I assume are exclusive to my class and the representative side.

———————————

Skill Name: Pain Train

Skill Rank: A

Skill Type: Passive

Skill Description: Each attack dealt or taken adds half of its power to the next. This boost is not exhausted after consecutive attacks and will last until the end of the battle.

———————————

You see Pain Train in a lot of the higher-ranked warrior Venators, and for a good reason. Warrior classes mainly focus on long battles with strong attacks and ranking up their strength the more they fight. It's fairly obvious that support classes were never experimented with in terms of hybrids, but the ones I have synergies fairly well with each other! Especially when it comes to these next skills.

———————————

Skill Name: Health Strike

Skill Rank: B, Class Exclusive

Skill Type: Activate

Skill Description: Attack with the strength proportional to the amount healed by the user. Using this skill will reset the rally for said boost.

———————————

Skill Name: Angel's Gambit

Skill Rank: Null

Skill Type: Activate

Skill Description: Upon use, you will take double the damage, but heal back half of it after a short delay. This effect lasts for 10 minutes or until you deactivate it, with a cooldown of 5 minutes.

———————————

With all of the skills I've accumulated from that one status window message, I already have a defined fighting style, which is to continuously heal injuries I've taken while increasing my strength each time I attack, get attacked, and rejuvenate myself. Isn't this... super strong? I'm sure it's more because of the Goddess of Alleviation's doing, but even if I only had the hybrid class, that could already be enough to take down a lower C-ranked Venator or middle-class Exile! Still, I can't get ahead of myself. Just because I got these skills at the start, doesn't mean I'll be able to use them proficiently right away. That said, it's time to go back to the Diamondback building... and face my mom.

I open my door and make my way down the stairs, and just as I expected it, she was there. "Iason." I swallow, ready to take what she is about to say. "Need some breakfast before you go? I boiled a few eggs if you want to eat one on the way there." I look at her after staring at my feet, met with her usual smile as if nothing ever happened.

"You're not mad at me?" I say with disbelief.

"Why should I? Even though it couldn't matter less to me, I would expect that to be someone's reaction to learning they're a support class-"

My eyes widen and my mouth opens. "H-how did you know?"

"I have my own skills too, you know. Flashback. Ever heard of it?" My mom chuckles.

Flashback was a C-Rank skill that gives the user a general overview of what happened to a person in the last 12 hours. I nearly forgot that she had that. Ever since I was 13, she stopped using it on me for respect of privacy, but for times like these, she used it to understand what I went through at the time.

"Alright, alright... But you're not mad at me or anything? And are you sure you're not weirded out by the whole support thing?"

"Of course not! Listen, honey." She hugs me tightly, patting my back as she continues to talk. "I'm your mother, and I accept you for everything that you are. Remember that." The two of us stay silent for a bit. It was nice. Like this was all that was happening in the world, and I was given permission to live in it.

"That is, unless you do something bad." She chuckles and lets me go, handing over a boiled egg she just got from the bowl of ice-cold water she used to stop the cooking process.

I smile and take the food before indulging. The yolk was nice and runny, but not too raw for it to be messy; just how I liked it. "I got it, mom. Don't worry! I'll make you proud!"

And just like that, we said our goodbyes again, and I set off to the building.

Nothing much happened on the walk there other than the few whispers I overheard about me and the lack of Kia being here. I still felt horrible about what I did yesterday, so I promised myself to apologize to her the next time we meet.

Entering the building, the quiet whispers around me grew even louder, with people even pointing at me and expressing their disgust. It really was strange how people's opinions of you can change in a single moment. Still, the least I could do was to try not to be held back by them. What's more important to me is the mission the Goddess of Alleviation set out for me. Anything other than the goal I was given doesn't matter. At least that's what I try to tell myself at least.

I got into the elevator with a couple other Venators, all of which who saw my badge right away.

"No fucking way!" One laughed as he pointed at my badge, which hooked onto a necklace.

"Hey, man! You're the support everyone was talking about, right?" He put his arm on my shoulder and leaned against my back. I looked down and sighed shakily. My mom made me forget a little that people will be acting like this from now on. It was nice for a moment, but now it was time to face reality.

"Yeah- That's me..." I said quietly.

"Great! That means that you can heal this, right?" The guy behind me says before grabbing my head at the back and slammed my face against the elevator door that had just closed. I gasp after pulling my head back. Blood streamed down from my nose, my face being filled with a sharp pain. I just need to sustain this until we get to the 5th floor, a training room for warriors that I was thankfully able to get access to. Hopefully I'll be able to escape them when I get to my floor.

I cast the basic Heal skill, reverting my face to the state it was before it was pushed onto the door.

"Well, shit! This guy is the real deal!" I turn around to see the one who did that. He was a young man in his early twenties with purple hair and eyes. Scanning the elevator, I could see three other people behind him. From left to right, I could see a mana hunter(assassin/mage), a rioter(tank/ranger), a mage, and a duelist, the person who slammed my face against the door. Good. Only one of them could go onto the fifth floor, but that means I would have to deal with this guy.

"Hey, how about this?" The mana hunter said before conjuring a mana blade and throwing it into my arm. I winced and grabbed my shoulder, casting another skill to heal myself.

"My turn!" Says the mage. He points his right hand before me and casts a skill, firing beams out of her fingers that hit my lower torso, wrists, and legs. And like clockwork, I healed them up again.

And just like that, they took turns taking shots at me. Crushing my hands, firing at my chest, and stabbing my body. There were no filters. Just the same thing over and over again with different methods. It felt like hours of being assaulted and healing myself, when it was only 30 seconds. After that half a minute, the door finally opened, and I stumbled out of. Blood covered my arms and hoodie without any wounds to be seen, but the pain I felt still lingered.

With my entire body on the floor, I looked up to see the only person who stepped out of the elevator. The Duelist. He was the one who started this and who had done the most to hurt me. He pointed his gun directly at my face, the one area he avoided shooting at.

He smirked as I looked into the barrel with fear. "It's about time we cut off supports..." He cocked the gun, loading a bullet into the chamber. "For good."

The man fired.
