"Finally finished the work..."
Kenji left the company and let out a long sigh.
He checked the time; it was already past nine in the evening.
"Really... every day I have to stay late... this way, I won't have time to move in with Mina."
The frequent overtime made Kenji feel quite frustrated, as the plans he had made were constantly being postponed.
"I'm going to call Mina, let's go have something to eat. I haven't seen her in days, I miss her so much."
Just thinking about Mina, that silly girl, a smile appeared on Kenji's face.
Compared to Masayo Aoshima, a woman with her own interests, he preferred someone like Mina, so innocent and sweet.
With that thought, Kenji took out his phone and dialed Aoshima Mina's number.
"Beep beep beep..."
"Beep beep beep..."
"Hello, the number you have dialed is not available at the moment."
"Huh? She's not answering?"
Kenji looked at his phone in confusion and said: "She probably didn't notice, I'll call again."
With that, Kenji dialed Aoshima Mina's number again.
He called several times, from the company to the station, more than ten times, but the call never connected.
This made Kenji feel worried: "Could something have happened?"
Thinking about this, Kenji decided to call Masayo Aoshima.
Though a bit embarrassed, Kenji wanted to check on Mina's status.
He called Masayo Aoshima, but just like with Mina's phone, he couldn't connect, he only heard the repeated phrase: "Hello, the number you have dialed is not available at the moment."
"Could something have happened?"
Kenji, worried, suppressed his anxiety and took a taxi to the sisters' house.
The taxi stopped in the residential neighborhood, and after paying the driver, Kenji saw that the lights in the house were still on, which made him breathe a sigh of relief.
However, then a doubt arose: if there were people in the house, why weren't they answering the phone?
With this doubt in mind, Kenji arrived at the door and rang the bell.
"Ding dong~ Ding dong~~"
He waited for a moment, but there was no answer.
Kenji frowned slightly and pressed the bell again, but received no response.
This gave him a bad feeling.
"Could something have happened?"
Kenji couldn't help but think of the worst.
He pressed the bell again, and if they didn't answer this time, he thought he should call the police.
"Ding dong ding dong~~~"
Fortunately, on the third try, someone finally answered.
There were quick footsteps, and with a click, the door opened slightly, caught by the security chain.
Although the sisters looked very alike, Kenji immediately recognized the person who opened the door: it was Masayo Aoshima, whose appearance showed strength, while Mina had a softer expression.
"What's going on?" Seeing Kenji, Masayo Aoshima frowned and didn't try to hide her displeasure. "What are you doing here?"
Kenji, with a somewhat embarrassed expression, responded awkwardly: "I... just tried to call Mina, but I couldn't get through. I also tried calling you... but you didn't answer either. I got worried, so I came to see how you both were..."
"I was in the shower, that's why I didn't hear the phone." Masayo Aoshima said, adjusting the towel around her body.
"And Mina?"
"Aren't you her fiancé? Don't you know?" Masayo said with a mocking tone.
"…"
Kenji, somewhat embarrassed, replied: "She... didn't tell me anything."
"Heh... She went to a work meeting, I don't know when she'll be back." said Masayo Aoshima coldly.
"Ah... I see. That's why I couldn't get in touch with her..."
Kenji didn't doubt Masayo Aoshima's words, but he felt a bit guilty as he looked at her and stammered: "Well..."
"What's the matter? Speak up." said Masayo Aoshima impatiently. "If you keep this up, I'm going to catch a cold."
"Well... I'm really sorry!" Kenji bowed deeply. "I know it's my fault... but..."
"Enough, don't continue. I forgive you. Now go."
Masayo Aoshima interrupted him before he could continue and, with a forceful slam, shut the door.
"…"
Kenji stood in silence, staring at the door that had been forcefully closed, and let out a deep sigh.
The plan to soften the relationship failed.
This left him with a headache, and he would have to wait for another opportunity to apologize again.
After about 40 minutes, Kenji finally arrived home.
Just as he entered the house, Kenji's phone rang. When he looked at the screen, he saw it was a call from Mina, so he quickly answered:
"Finally answering the phone, Mina."
"I... I'm sorry, I... I put the phone on silent, I didn't... I didn't realize."
"Please, next time you go to a meeting, let me know in advance... you don't know how worried I was not being able to contact you." Kenji slammed the door shut, somewhat upset, and said.
"Eh... this... was my fault."
"Why... does your voice sound strange?" Kenji asked, somewhat confused.
"I'm sorry... I... drank a little too much. Uuu~~"
"You drank too much?" As soon as Kenji heard this, his heart skipped a beat.
As a good office worker, he had witnessed too many cases where bosses took advantage of their drunk subordinates to exploit them. Some even went further, taking them to nearby motels to do horrible things.
"Are you okay? Do you want me to come get you?"
Kenji immediately stopped taking off his shoes.
"No... no need, I... I already... I'm already home. Right? Sister..."
"You smell like alcohol... better take a shower and then go to sleep. I'll make you some soup to sober you up."
Upon hearing Masayo Aoshima's voice, Kenji sighed in relief. Thank goodness what he had feared hadn't happened.
"No... I don't want to keep talking, I have to go take a shower."
"Wait..."
Before Kenji could say anything more, Mina's call was disconnected.
"I'm not done talking yet..."
Kenji muttered in frustration. He had worked all day, was exhausted, then took a taxi to his house to check on her, then went back to his house, and now that he finally received the call, he had barely said a couple of sentences when she hung up. This left him somewhat upset.
However, Kenji thought that, since Mina was drunk, it was better for her to rest.
So he sent her a message: [Tomorrow night, I finish work at seven... would you like to go out for dinner with me?]
[Tomorrow I don't have time.]
"Seems like she's pretty drunk, she can't even write properly."
Kenji was about to reply, "Maybe we should leave it for another day," but in the next moment, he received another message.
[Yes, that's fine.]
Kenji smiled happily.
