"Boom!" A heavy, muffled impact echoed across the battlefield.
Dragonite's Brick Break struck the defensive barrier formed by Mega Aggron's crossed arms.
The tremendous force swept outward like a hurricane, creating bombardment-like cracks that appeared on the arena walls behind Mega Aggron. The damage spread rapidly across the surface like a spider web expanding in the rain!
However, Mega Aggron itself - standing at the epicenter of this devastating impact - remained completely motionless! Only a thin white scratch marked its gleaming golden steel armor, serving as proof that Dragonite had indeed launched an attack.
Within moments, even this minor mark would heal and disappear entirely.
Mega Aggron's proud head rose high within its steel helmet, eyes gazing downward as it swept its contemptuous stare across Dragonite.
The look seemed to say: "That's it? Didn't you eat breakfast?"
Dragonite was equally astonished, wondering if perhaps too much time spent socializing with the female dragons in the area had somehow weakened its performance.
Otherwise, why would its full-power attack against Mega Aggron prove completely ineffective?
As the trainer, Elian could only grit his teeth and curse silently after witnessing Mega Aggron's display.
"Unbelievable! Did Chris discover a Mega Stone mine at home? It's one thing to have Mega Stones for Gardevoir and Garchomp, but Aggron too?"
After undergoing Mega Evolution, Aggron becomes a pure Steel-type Pokemon, meaning Fighting-type moves no longer deal quadruple damage but only the standard double damage.
Additionally, Mega Aggron gains the Filter ability upon evolution.
Filter: Reduces damage from super-effective moves by 25%.
Double damage becomes 1.5 times damage instead.
A physical attack dealing 1.5 times damage against Mega Aggron - a Pokemon renowned for its physical defense - naturally couldn't cause significant harm!
Beyond his frustration, Elian was even more surprised that Chris had concealed such a powerful Pokemon.
According to all the intelligence he had gathered, Chris had never used Aggron in any official battle.
Yet the ability to Mega Evolve indicated that Chris had been training this Aggron for an extended period.
For Elian, Mega Aggron represented a completely unexpected variable - an unknown quantity filled with mysteries.
Raw power wasn't frightening; the unknown was what truly unsettled him.
"Smack Down!" While everyone remained stunned by the display, Chris raised the corner of his mouth slightly and immediately issued his next command.
Smack Down is a Rock-type move with special properties. If the target takes damage from this attack, it becomes grounded, temporarily losing its Flying-type characteristics. This would prevent Dragonite from flying and make it vulnerable to Ground-type moves!
"Aggron!" Mega Aggron released a intimidating roar, raising its claws as they became shrouded in brown energy, then struck toward the Dragonite before it.
"Dodge quickly!" Though surprised, Elian retained his qualities as an Elite trainer and immediately reacted with an evasion command.
Dragonite proved worthy of its reputation as an "agile heavyweight."
Despite being face-to-face with Mega Aggron, it still demonstrated remarkable dexterity when confronting the attack.
With its short legs stepping lightly and its small fleshy wings providing a quick flap, Dragonite's form shifted gracefully.
It floated away like a gentle breeze, narrowly brushing past Mega Aggron's claws and successfully avoiding the strike.
However, Mega Aggron didn't retract its motion after the failed Smack Down attempt. Instead, it accelerated further and slammed its sharp claws into the ground with even greater force.
"Boom!!"
Immediately, from the point where Mega Aggron's palm struck, massive golden pillars over ten meters tall erupted from the ground in sequence!
Elian didn't have time to issue another dodge command. Dragonite could only avoid the first two golden pillars through its natural agility and speed. The third golden pillar still caught its body, launching it high into the sky.
This left Dragonite to face the onslaught of "Golden Rock Slide"!
Only then did the spectators realize what had truly occurred.
Mega Aggron hadn't used Smack Down - a move designed to ground Flying-type Pokemon - but rather the long-range offensive move Stone Edge!
The Smack Down command had been nothing more than a tactical deception!
Elian couldn't have distinguished the difference, nor could he have anticipated it.
In close combat with sudden explosive moves, unless someone possessed supernatural abilities to read Chris's thoughts, such tactics were nearly impossible to defend against!
"Aerial Ace!" Unable to predict the deception, Elian could only work to solve the immediate problem.
Under the barrage of golden spikes, Dragonite gritted its teeth and twisted its body. Its wings glowed white as it spun through the air, deflecting the golden projectiles falling toward it.
Unlike a typical Aerial Ace attack, however, Dragonite didn't launch a sudden strike but instead flew swiftly back toward its trainer.
It appeared to be regrouping for another coordinated assault.
"Aggron, use Sandstorm!" Chris commanded casually. He felt no urgency when using a large Pokemon with powerful defenses like Aggron, which could employ defensive counterattack strategies in most situations.
Moreover, Dragonite had already taken significant damage from both Stone Edge and Rock Slide. Its defeat wouldn't be long in coming!
"Aggron!" Mega Aggron's roar resonated throughout the battlefield once again.
Strong winds swept across the ground, gathering yellow sand from seemingly nowhere and stirring it into towering clouds!
Within mere moments, howling winds filled everyone's ears, visibility plummeted dramatically, and the stinging sand whipping against their faces caused genuine discomfort.
The battlefield seemed to have been transported thousands of kilometers away, landing directly in the middle of a desert environment.
"Fire Blast!" After considering his options, Elian issued a new attack command.
Dragonite's Brick Break had proven that Mega Aggron's defenses were indeed as formidable as reported.
However, Mega Aggron's incredible defense applied primarily to physical attacks.
In terms of special defense, even though Mega Evolution had provided some improvements, compared to its physical defense capabilities, this could be considered a relative weakness!
As a pure Steel-type, Mega Aggron would take super-effective damage from Fire-type moves. Among all the techniques Dragonite had mastered, only the special attack move Fire Blast could deal meaningful damage to Mega Aggron!
Dragonite took a deep breath, its large mouth filling with violent orange flames as sparks overflowed from the corners of its maw.
In the next instant, it expelled a basketball-sized fireball that rapidly expanded in mid-flight, forming a two-meter-wide star-shaped blast pattern as it hurtled toward Mega Aggron.
As a heavyweight Pokemon, Mega Aggron's dictionary contained no entry for "dodge" when facing attacks - only the option to meet them head-on!
Chris extended his hand and pointed downward, commanding: "Aggron, use Wonder Room!"
