(Note: When cosmic energy is completely depleted, it will transform into a Slumber Cocoon and return to the universe. Countdown: 6 days, 23 hours, and 59 minutes)
A perfect 6IV Pokémon stat panel.
Chris, who already owned Latias, Zeraora, and other mythical Pokémon, wasn't particularly surprised by the stats.
What truly caught Chris's attention was the "note" at the bottom of the panel.
"So it really is the same as in the anime," Chris muttered, recalling Jirachi from the animated series.
After sleeping for a thousand years, it could only remain awake for seven days.
In Chris's view, this was simply torture. It was worse than the tale of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl—at least they got one day together each year. Jirachi only got about seven days off in thousand years.
And every time Jirachi awakened, it would form bonds with humans and Pokémon, but after only seven days, it would be forced into deep sleep due to energy depletion. It would sever those bonds and wander through the universe until it returned to the Pokémon world after another thousand years.
By that time, the Pokémon world would inevitably be different, and the Pokémon and humans with whom it had once shared bonds and made thousand-year promises would no longer exist.
Fortunately, Jirachi lost its memories each time it emerged from the cocoon. Otherwise, the longer it lived, the more torturous the experience would become.
"Since you've become my Pokémon, I'll never let you stay in this world for just seven days," Chris thought with determination.
He noticed that the "note" mentioned "when cosmic energy is completely depleted, it will transform into a Slumber Cocoon again."
It was cosmic energy that sustained Jirachi's activities in the Pokémon world, and it returned to the universe after seven days to absorb cosmic energy and prepare for its next awakening.
So, could he replenish Jirachi with cosmic energy so that it would never have to return to the Slumber Cocoon?
"Cosmic energy..." Chris rested his chin in thought.
When it came to cosmic energy, Solrock and Lunatone were the first Pokémon that came to mind. It was said they were stones that had fallen from space, and they did possess a move called Cosmic Power.
Thinking further, there were quite a few Pokémon with cosmic origins. Common examples included Minior, Elgyem, and Beheeyem.
Among legendary Pokémon... there was Deoxys.
Solgaleo and Lunala from the Alola Region, or the great emissary of light, Necrozma.
While Chris was deep in thought, Jirachi, having grown familiar with the current room, was already flying downstairs. Something downstairs was clearly more attractive to it.
Downstairs, in a special hall that Chris didn't allow anyone else to enter on normal days, a lively scene was unfolding.
"Toge-toge-pri! (I won!!) ㄟ(≧◇≦)ㄏ"
"Mew~! (I won too!!) ㄟ(≧◇≦)ㄏ"
"Wobbu-ffet! (I lost again!! Wobbuffet hugged and cried)"
"Dei-li! (Let's play again!)"
Togepi, Mew, and Wobbuffet were sitting in the lobby, each holding a game console and engaged in fierce competition.
On the sofa against the wall, Hariyama sat knitting a sweater while wearing reading glasses, looking just like a grandmother. Beside it, Delibird was helping to organize balls of yarn, occasionally glancing up at the four little ones.
"Hello~" Jirachi flew over timidly. Though a bit shy, it still mustered the courage to greet everyone.
Several pairs of eyes turned toward Jirachi with curious looks.
They hadn't met Jirachi before.
"Toge-pri~ (Come play with us~)" Togepi wasn't afraid of strangers at all. Seeing a new friend, it waved its game console enthusiastically.
"Mew~~" Mew twisted its body in mid-air, teleported behind Jirachi, and gently nudged it forward to join them.
Perhaps it was the innate innocence of children, but Jirachi, who had been somewhat cautious at first, was quickly infected by everyone's friendliness. Coupled with the novelty and fun of the game consoles, it integrated into the group rapidly.
Chris, standing at the doorway, watched the little ones living harmoniously together and decided not to interrupt.
He'd just let them play happily.
After all, if Jirachi couldn't solve the problem of returning to the Slumber Cocoon within seven days, then what was more important than ensuring it was happy for those seven days after wandering the lonely universe for a thousand years?
Leaving the hall, Chris thought for a moment, then pulled out his phone and called Wanda.
"Wanda, please help me contact all the laboratories specializing in cosmic research, both domestically and internationally. Ask if they'd be interested in studying Jirachi."
Strength determined perspective.
If Jirachi had been born a year earlier, or even half a year earlier, Chris might have at most approached Teacher Vladimir to study it together. Because once Jirachi's existence became known, there was a strong possibility that Champion-level figures would come to try and take it.
Jirachi's nickname was the "Wishing Star," and few could resist that kind of temptation—especially powerful Trainers.
But now? After defeating Marvin without even using his full strength, Chris wasn't concerned.
If foreign Champions or any of the current Eight Masters dared to cause trouble for him, then he wouldn't mind at all replacing one of his rivals before the Eight Masters battle even began.
"Also, are there any domestic laboratories specializing in Cosmic Pokémon that might be for sale? If the price is right, I may be ready to acquire one," Chris added.
Inviting experts in cosmic research was the first step.
With Jirachi, a mythical Pokémon, as bait, there would surely be many big fish willing to bite.
The second step would be to establish his own cosmic research laboratory and bring them all under his command.
Thinking of those legendary Pokémon from space, Chris found the prospect quite interesting.
Tomorrow, he planned to discuss this thoroughly with Teacher Vladimir. Presumably, Teacher Vladimir wouldn't reject such rare "research material" as Jirachi.
It would be perfect to recruit some research experts through Teacher Vladimir's reputation and connections as well.
