Immediately after Michael made the decision to evolve himself, his consciousness was plunged into a strange state of darkness.
Michael couldn't see anything, hear anything, or even feel the existence of his own body. It was as though his consciousness had been separated from everything that made up his existence and placed somewhere beyond the reach of the physical world.
His mind entered an extremely peculiar state. On one hand, his thoughts seemed sharper than ever before. He felt that if he wanted to contemplate something, even the most complicated matters would become incredibly simple.
Yet, at the same time, his mind also felt strangely dull, as though there was nothing to think about, nor any need to think of anything.
It was an unusual contradiction.
Time continued to pass.
Or perhaps it didn't.
Michael had no way of knowing.
Perhaps only a few seconds had passed. Perhaps it had been weeks. Months. Years. He didn't know.
