Still holding the lump of flesh in one hand, Michael narrowed his eyes.
He figured… if the monster had the power to permanently kill Awakeners in the Land of Origin—a place where immortality was supposed the norm—then it stood to reason it might also have a method to avoid death itself.
Of course, it was also possible that wasn't the case.
Maybe the monster's effect had simply been an anomaly. A side effect of its taboo nature or some strange interaction between skills.
But even if it turned out to be useless, Michael still wanted it.
He would rather possess a weapon that others might have—than be the one without it.
It wasn't like he was actually planning to kill other Awakeners.
And so far… he hadn't even met one.
It had been three months since he first stepped foot into the Land of Origin, and not once had he encountered another Awakened from Aurora. Not even by accident.
That in itself was strange.
