Father Gu was well aware that Madam Tang would never go back to her past, but could he really say that?
To speak that to a man who desperately wants to reunite would be devastating.

For now, he was simply persuading him, and once he sent the man back home, they could talk about the future later.
Father Tang didn't seem to care whether Father Gu was telling the truth or not, he just wanted to hear something positive.
Father Gu helped Father Tang into the yard and watched him lie down before returning home.
Mrs. Gu was watering the flowers. When she saw Father Gu enter the house and wipe off his sweat, she thought something was wrong, "What did you go out and do? Why are you drenched in sweat?"
Father Gu then relayed the incident with Father Tang, including the questions Father Tang had asked. Mrs. Gu scoffed, "He wishes! No matter the intention, harm is harm. It can't just be covered up with an apology and an excuse!"
