Inside the Son household, the table groaned under the weight of food. Plates stacked high with rice, stir-fried vegetables, dumplings, grilled fish, spicy tofu, and endless bowls of soup lined the entire surface from end to end. It was a feast worthy of the Ox-King himself.
Chi-Chi stood proudly by the stove, ladling more curry into a bowl. "You better eat it all! I cooked for hours after you left, hoping you'd come home hungry."
"I'm always hungry," Goten said through a mouthful of noodles, already halfway through his fourth bowl.
Chi-Chi chuckled, placing another plate beside him. "You're just like your father. He inhales food like a black hole."
"Mmf—this is so good," Goten mumbled, slurping down a bowl of miso soup without pause. "I haven't had real food in years — Yardrat cooking is, uh… kind of weird."
Chi-Chi raised a brow. "Weird how?"
"They put fruit in soup," he said seriously.
She gasped. "Savages!"
They both laughed.
His tail flicked behind him happily as he chomped down a mountain of fried rice, then dove into the grilled meat. Plates disappeared in minutes, and Chi-Chi could only blink in awe as her youngest son devoured enough food for ten men in less than twenty.
"You're worse than your dad and Gohan combined," she muttered, hands on her hips—but there was warmth in her voice, and pride. "At least you still chew."
As he reached for another helping of dumplings, something in the distance caught his attention. A faint hum. Whirring. Growing louder.
Then—
Vrrrmmm… VrrrrrrrrMMMMMMMM!
A sleek, Capsule Corp hovercar zipped over the treetops, blue paint glinting in the evening sun as it came to a rapid stop just above the clearing near the house.
Chi-Chi stepped outside, shielding her eyes. "Who in the world…?"
The side door flung open, and Bulma jumped out, her expression frantic. Her hair was a bit wild, her jacket halfway unzipped, and in her arms was a tablet blinking red with alerts.
"GOTEN!!" she shouted. "We've got a huge problem!"
He jumped up from the table, nearly knocking over his bowl. "Bulma?!"
Bulma landed hard, boots skidding on the dirt. "Thank Kami you're back. I've been scanning the whole area for any high-level powers I had to patch together a signal just to find you!"
Goten looked confused. "What's going on?"
Chi-Chi stepped between them, protective instincts kicking in. "Now wait a minute! He just got back! He hasn't even finished dinner!"
Bulma held up the tablet. On it was a layout of the planet the Z Fighters are on at the moment, half of it covered in burning red energy signatures. At the center, enormous spikes—far beyond any regular fighter's power—rippled like seismic activity.
"I don't have time to explain everything in detail," Bulma said quickly, "but a new army showed up. Led by someone called Lord Xenthus. They've already killed Yamcha and 18. Tien and Krillin were nearly wiped out. Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Trunks are fighting as we speak. It's bad, Goten. Really bad."
The joy in Goten's face disappeared in an instant.
His mind clicked.
"Wait… Piccolo and Gohan? Dad? They're already in battle?"
Bulma nodded grimly. "Your dad's fighting Xenthus. And the first and second strongest generals of his army fused together, Goten—into a warrior as strong as Xenthus who's stronger than Goku."
Chi-Chi's face went pale.
Bulma looked at her softly. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to come here. But Goten's the only one left strong enough to turn the tide."
Chi-Chi turned to her son, trembling. "Goten… are you ready for this?"
He looked at her, and for a moment, he wasn't the little boy she remembered. He stood taller. Eyes firm. Shoulders squared.
"I trained for this," he said quietly. "I'm not scared anymore. I have to help them."
He turned to Bulma. "Where?"
She tapped the screen. "Just sense their ki's West from here. You should feel their ki's across the universe."
Goten closed his eyes.
And felt.
A storm of energy—violent, raw, overwhelming—blew through his senses. Piccolo. Gohan. Trunks. Vegeta. Goku. All under immense strain.
And somewhere deeper… two cold, monstrous powers.
He opened his eyes.
"Got it."
Chi-Chi moved fast and pulled him into one last hug, tight and trembling. "Please… come back. I don't think I can take losing anyone else."
He hugged her back. "I promise."
Then he turned to the clearing, his hand lifting to his forehead.
Bulma took a step back and whispered, "Good luck, Goten."
In a heartbeat, the air cracked with light.
Zmmm—!
He vanished in an instant, leaving only a rush of wind and the echo of his departure.
Chi-Chi stared at the empty space, her heart heavy.
"…He's not a boy anymore," she whispered.
Bulma stood beside her, watching the horizon.
"No," she said quietly. "He's just like Goku."
The sky was ash. Black smoke twisted into the atmosphere, and the sun was barely visible behind a blanket of chaos. The battlefield was ruined—scarred with craters, collapsed cliffs, and shattered stone. The wind howled like a mournful spirit.
Krillin was on one knee, shielding Tien's unconscious body with the last of his strength. His arms trembled, his breathing ragged. Blood trickled down his brow, his gi in tatters.
Before them, two of Lord Xenthus' warriors stood—one a massive juggernaut with crackling crimson energy, the other a sharp-eyed assassin radiating cold, calculated malice.
The larger warrior snarled, raising a sphere of burning red energy. "Say goodbye, Earthlings."
The thin one smirked. "Should've died with the others."
Krillin shut his eyes. "I'm sorry… 18…"
ZMMM—!
A crack of light split the air. Wind exploded outward like a shockwave. Both enemies staggered back, shielding their eyes from the sudden burst.
When the dust cleared—
Goten stood between them.
His boots crushed the stone beneath. The Power Pole on his back and around his neck, an orange scarf whipped in the wind.
His hair fluttered in the breeze, and his gaze burned with calm fury.
Krillin's jaw dropped. "Goten…?"
Goten didn't glance back. He stood firm, protecting the fallen.
"You're not hurting anyone else."
The slim assassin grits his teeth. "You little punk—!"
He vanished, blitzing toward Goten at full speed.
Goten didn't move.
At the last second, he sidestepped with perfect precision. A fist meant for his head missed by inches—and Goten answered with a devastating roundhouse kick, launching the assassin sideways through a line of shattered trees.
The massive brute roared and charged. He swung a punch the size of a boulder.
Goten caught it.
With one hand.
The ground beneath him cracked violently. Dust spiraled into the air.
The brute's eyes went wide.
Goten's orange scarf fluttered in the wind, his arm unmoving.
"You're strong. But not enough."
BOOM—!
With a sudden upward elbow to the gut, Goten launched the brute sky-high. He disappeared in a golden streak—appearing above the enemy in a flash. Both fists came crashing down.
WHAM!!!
The explosion lit the sky.
The enemy cratered into the earth below, the impact shaking the entire landscape.
Goten floated back down, as his scarf flared behind him, caught in the dying winds.
He knelt beside Krillin and checked on Tien.
"He's alive," he said quietly. "Barely."
Krillin managed a weak chuckle. "You… really are your father's son."
Goten smiled faintly. "I'm me."
He stood, staring off toward the horizon.
A storm of energy awaited him there.
"I can feel them. Vegeta... Trunks… They're still fighting. And my Dad, Gohan, and Piccolo are holding off something massive."
Krillin nodded. "Then you know what you have to do."
The scarf settled around his neck as Goten looked ahead, wind brushing through his hair. His expression turned focused—resolute.
"I won't let them down."
ZMMM—!
With a flash of light, he was gone—leaving behind only a burst of wind.
Krillin leaned back, exhaling as he looked at the sky.
"He's not Goku," he said to the unconscious Tien. "He's something new. Something even stronger."
Suddenly—
BOOM!
The ground ahead erupted in a violent burst of energy. A massive plume of rock and dust shot into the air, and Goten came to a dead halt mid-flight, skidding backward through the sky with a snap of aura.
He narrowed his eyes.
From the smoking crater, a silhouette emerged.
Tall. Wide-shouldered. Radiating controlled, disciplined power.
The figure stepped out—gleaming black armor, engraved with Xenthus's crest. His skin was slate gray, his eyes solid white, and a jagged mohawk of obsidian spikes jutted from his skull.
He cracked his neck with a low grunt.
???: "You're fast, kid. But not fast enough to get past me."
Goten hovered a few feet above the ground, expression calm but focused. "You're one of his top fighters."
The warrior smirked. "Number Four. General Varnax."
His voice was like gravel grinding steel.
VARNAX: "Lord Xenthus predicted you'd arrive. Said if anyone could break the line, it'd be you. My job is to make sure you don't reach him."
Goten's expression didn't change. "Then you'll fail."
A beat of silence. Then—
VARNAX: "Show me."
In a blur, Varnax lunged forward with shocking speed for his size. Goten barely dodged the first strike—an earth-shattering punch that cratered the terrain behind him. Varnax followed up with a barrage of elbows, knees, and swipes that pushed Goten into a defensive flurry.
Goten blocked and dodged, but the strength behind each blow was incredible. The sheer pressure shook the air with every impact.
He flipped back, landing on a jagged outcrop, breathing lightly.
Goten: "You're strong. I'll give you that."
Varnax: "I trained under Xenthus for twenty years in black-star gravity chambers. You think some Saiyan runt can stand against that?"
Goten's eyes narrowed. Then, with a steady breath—
WHOOM—!!
A golden light exploded outward. Flames of energy surged upward as his hair snapped into golden spikes and his eyes turned piercing green. The sky seemed to bend from the sudden spike in his power.
Super Saiyan.
The stone beneath him disintegrated from the pressure.
Goten: "Let's see if twenty years beats three in the Chamber of Ancestral Reflection."
Varnax grinned—and charged.
They collided in midair—BOOM!—a shockwave ripping through the valley. Blow for blow, the two warriors clashed across the battlefield like thunder made flesh. Their strikes shattered mountains, their movements left sonic booms in their wake.
Goten's fists glowed with ki as he spun under a massive hammer fist, launching a counter-punch that caved in Varnax's side.
But the general didn't budge. He grabbed Goten's arm and hurled him across the field like a missile.
CRASH!—Goten plowed through a cliffside and burst out the other end.
Before he could recover, Varnax was there—hands raised, red energy spiraling between his palms.
Varnax: "Planet Reaper Cannon!!"
A spiraling beam of molten crimson shot forth.
Goten's eyes flared. He cupped his hands.
Goten: "Kamehame—"
The beam was inches from him.
"—HAAAA!!"
His blue blast surged forward and slammed into Varnax's cannon in a blinding explosion. The sky turned white. The earth cracked open.
For a moment, it was dead silent.
Then—Varnax burst out of the smoke, panting, a long gash across his chest.
Varnax (gritting his teeth): "Thats… all you've got…?"
Goten slowly hovered into view above him, his aura flaring brighter than ever.
Goten: "No. That was just Super Saiyan."
He vanished.
ZMMM—!!
Reappeared behind Varnax.
BAM—!!
A lightning-fast strike to the back of the neck.
Varnax went flying.
Before he could hit the ground, Goten was already there—kneeing him in the gut, then delivering a spinning kick that launched him into the air.
Goten raised a hand outwards.
Blue energy condensed, swirling like a sun in his palm.
Goten: "This ends now."
He hurled the sphere downward.
"Riot Javelin!"
It struck Varnax mid-fall—BOOM!!! A colossal dome of blue light erupted outward, flattening the terrain in a mile-wide radius.
When the dust settled…
Only Goten remained, hovering alone above a fresh crater.
At the bottom, Varnax laying destroyed, armor shattered, body scorched.
Goten descended slowly, landing beside him.
He looked down, then quietly said, "You were strong. But I have people to protect."
He turned toward the titanic energies in the distance.
The real battle was still ahead.
With a final breath, Goten exploded into motion once more.
ZMMM—!
He vanished into the horizon, chasing destiny at the speed of light.
