Chapter 80 - Louis-kun and the Light of Versailles

"My arm reaches anything, tears everything, and creates my path.

Let it knock down even the stars in the sky!

ROMA INVERSA!"

With one throw, the spear stopped being a weapon. It became an entire reality, a nation that never was, a world that never existed. It had the brightness of a shooting star, but the power of a black hole. Reality was torn apart, no, reality was overcome, substituted, replaced. Everything in the path of the attack became part of that new world, of the dream of a single man.

King Louis created multiple barriers, but was unable to stop the advance. His body vaporised on impact. The sky parted and the entire globe seemed like it was going to split in half. Tremors could be heard from the opposite side of the planet. The effects could be perceived even in the real world, where everyone was still sleeping soundly.

"The weight and pressure of three worlds colliding... even for a man of kingly ambition, that's a tall task."

The real Sun King commented as he stood on the roof of Versailles. Then, lifting his scepter, he started gathering all his remaining mana.

"The symbol of my power guides the future of the nation,

The king shines brighter than all stars,

Make those who see the golden flower think of me,

LE LIS ROYAL!"

All the power accumulated in his treasure came forth in the form of a golden lily. From it, a great radiance appeared before unleashing a powerful ray of light, symbol of the power that the French King had accumulated throughout his lifetime, the longest reign of any monarch.

However, despite this, the lance cleaved through it all, moving closer and closer to the palace, threatening to wipe it out of existence along with the actual Earth as a whole. Suddenly, all the mana that had been dispersed by the previous clash, along with all the power from the Servants Louis had summoned, from the mana collected in several dimensions at once and in several times at once, using ancient spells capable of rivaling True Magic, and bringing his Saint Graph to its very breaking point, the Sun King activated his second Noble Phantasm.

"The grand mirrors, the halls, the dances, the height of my reign...

Time shan't cancel my memory, for it is forever contained here.

My eternal court,

ÉCLAT DE VERSAILLES - The Palace of Light that Stands until the End"

A copy of his great palace appeared, with no discernible difference. Because how can one improve perfection? The second Versailles was a perfect copy of the original, not inferior, not superior, the true sublimation of the greatest achievement of the Sun King.

Placed in front of the original as a shield, it resisted the assault of an entire reality with regal dignity. Though not used for defense, the sheer splendor and greatness of the building were too great for it to be erased from existence that easily. In a sense, it was the perfect counter: an unforgettable place is hard, if not impossible, to replace.

"Broken Phantasm - The Destroyed Illusion"

King Louis XIV called out, overcharging his Noble Phantasm with every little essence of himself and his power. A great glow, a cracking sound, and then... an explosion. A network of barriers and deflective mirrors concentrates the blast into a single direction, leaving the real Versailles unharmed. The impossible happens. The spear slowly descends back on the ground, having been stopped. Reality returns as it was. The inevitable substitution has been blocked.

Alone he stands, the King. Alone he fights, the king. Alone he smiles, the King. Even as the throne of heroes calls him back, he doesn't stop, the King. He makes sure that everything he can still do is done. Only once his scepter fades away, he stops, the King. Then he looks over the battlefield. After so much noise, everything is suddenly so quiet. He can almost hear the birds chirping in his garden. He can see the faces of every soldier fighting for or with him. Even from afar, he can see the concern. He smiles for real, the King.

"How fitting. The only time one is never envied is when he dies. And yet... it doesn't bother me. To be cared for... how could someone like me fall for such a weakness? In the end, I suppose I am still human. Farewell, great heroes, I leave the rest to you."

Alone he fades, the King. But no one dares forget him. No one dares to move. No one dares to disrespect his memory. For he is the King.

Suddenly, the spear raises back up from the ground and flies back into the hands of its owner. Remus looks forward with an unreadable gaze; however, from the way he grips his weapon, his fury is evident.

"A pointless sacrifice, Sun King. One I do not envy. You simply refused to be present as I destroy everything you stand for. I will crush your army and destroy your palace. I'll rid the world of your memory, for people like you are those who made it the way it is. I will cleanse reality from your stench. You are all merely a stain I must remove, a flaw I must purify. You're just that. A mistake. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Hey now, I don't think that's really nice."

"Who are you, woman?"

"Just a fellow Roman going about her day, what about you?"

"You do not serve me..."

"Afraid not. As much as I would like to return to Earth too, like Earth Earth, I don't think killing everyone is really my cup of tea. So I fear I must stop you, Grandpa Remus."

"I see. So that's how it is. What's your name then?"

"I'm Nero, but you shouldn't mistake me with the other guy. I'm sure you knew him well, but I'm not like him. Also, sorry I had to kill your friend."

"So you killed Nero?"

"Yeah, I did. Apologies."

"No offense taken. I have no use for weaklings. If a version of him from that world can beat him, then he was no good at all to begin with."

"You're pretty harsh. You know, no one likes a harsh boss?"

"Enough of this. You won't stall me."

With one motion of his spear, Remus made his army reappear.

"You're not going to target me?"

"No, I'm going to slice you up myself."

"Truly an honour. Should we do best of three?"

"You really think you're going to last that long?"

"Hey now, a little banter is ok, but don't let it get to your head. You should be more prepared for the possibility of losing, because remember: no one likes a sore loser either."
