Chapter 395: Golden City, Ma Teng
"Spatial treasures!"
Hearing the Black Bat King's explanation, Mo Yu's eyes lit up.
He knew that after breaking through to Dou Sect, his strength had reached a temporary plateau, and further breakthroughs would require greater opportunities. Therefore, Mo Yu's next focus was on enhancing the two types of Mystic Thunder he possessed—Void-Breaking Thunder and Profound Yin Poison Thunder. Once these reached their peak, not only would his strength significantly increase, but the fusion of the two to create the Black Gold Thunder Pill would be even more powerful.
However, enhancing these thunders to their peak wasn't easy. The Profound Yin Poison Thunder required the consumption of a Calamity Poison Body wielder, and Mo Yu had his sights set on the master of Ice River Valley for this. That could wait for now.
The growth of the Void-Breaking Thunder required a large amount of spatial power. Previously, Mo Yu thought of using the chaotic spatial energy from the wormholes between cities, similar to those in Tianya City, to help nurture the thunder. However, the chaotic energy produced by these wormholes was too slow, and given that Wanjian Pavilion was now hunting him, this method would be too time-consuming and risky.
So, when he heard that the Golden Warhorse Clan possessed many spatial treasures, Mo Yu was thrilled. If he could obtain enough spatial treasures from them, it would save him a lot of time, allowing the Void-Breaking Thunder to reach its peak much faster!
With this in mind, Mo Yu turned to the Black Bat King and asked, "Where is the Golden Warhorse Clan located?"
"Master," the Black Bat King replied respectfully, "the Golden Warhorse Clan is located in the Dikun Mountain Range, about ten thousand miles from here. That is their territory, and not even Wanjian Pavilion dares to venture there without permission."
The Black Bat King paused before continuing, "The Golden Warhorse Clan is known for practicing human cultivation techniques and Dou Skills, and they frequently trade spatial treasures with humans. As a result, they have good relations with humans, which is rare for a magical beast clan. Many humans and human forces live in the Dikun Mountain Range.
"However, the Golden Warhorse Clan is extremely protective of their golden beast eyes. Master, if you go there, it would be wise for this lord here to avoid showing himself, to prevent any unnecessary trouble."
Hearing the Black Bat King's advice, Mo Yu rubbed his chin thoughtfully and nodded slightly.
If everything went smoothly, Qingzhi wouldn't need to show himself. With Mo Yu's current strength and the Black Bat King at his side, they should be able to handle most problems. However, if they encountered a life-threatening situation, Mo Yu wouldn't hesitate to expose Qingzhi's golden beast eyes. After all, the threat posed by the Golden Warhorse Clan didn't worry him too much.
In Mo Yu's eyes, the Golden Warhorse Clan wasn't as prestigious as the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan, one of the top three beast families in the magical beast world. The Golden Warhorse Clan only held dominance in the Western Region of Central Continent. Even if Qingzhi's golden beast eyes were revealed, there might still be room for negotiation.
With that thought, Mo Yu waved his hand, storing Qingzhi back in his beast ring, and then turned to the Black Bat King. "You know the way to the Dikun Mountain Range, right? Lead the way."
"Yes, Master!"
…
After finalizing their destination, the Black Bat King dismissed his subordinates and set off with Mo Yu towards the Dikun Mountain Range. The range was located in the northern part of the Western Region, about ten thousand miles away from the nameless mountain range they were in. Even though both Mo Yu and the Black Bat King were Dou Sect experts capable of flying, it would still take some time to reach.
After flying for about ten days, the outline of a tall, expansive city appeared in the distance.
This city was known as Golden City, situated near the Dikun Mountain Range and under the jurisdiction of the Golden Warhorse Clan. Perhaps due to their high intelligence, some of the clan's habits were similar to those of humans. While most ordinary members of the Golden Warhorse Clan lived in the Dikun Mountains, the direct descendants who had successfully transformed into human form resided within Golden City.
Only a few of the direct descendants could fully transform into human form. Along with those who were only partially transformed, there were no more than a thousand members of the clan in the city. Interestingly, though, Golden City had more humans living there than members of the Golden Warhorse Clan.
The harmonious relationship between humans and the Golden Warhorse Clan, coupled with their thriving trade, had turned Golden City into one of the most prosperous cities in the Western Region.
As Mo Yu and the Black Bat King neared the city, they descended from the sky and gazed at the towering, majestic city that appeared to be made of solid gold. The streets inside were bustling with activity, filled with people and carriages. Mo Yu nodded in approval, impressed by the Golden Warhorse Clan's intelligence.
After a moment of admiration, Mo Yu and the Black Bat King walked towards the city gates. Before entering, however, Mo Yu noticed some figures nearby and hesitated. He took out a cloak from his beast ring to cover his head before continuing toward the city.
As they approached the city, Mo Yu noticed a crowd gathered at the gates, and the word "wanted" reached his ears. His brow furrowed slightly, and he moved closer to the crowd, glancing at the city walls. His eyes narrowed when he saw a bright yellow notice posted there.
The notice featured a drawing of his face and bore a black sword-shaped emblem, one he had seen on Elder Black Sword's chest before. It was a wanted poster, and the target was Mo Yu.
Surrounding the wanted poster were many curious onlookers, and their voices of discussion filled the air.
"They say this kid named Mo Yu killed the disciple of Wanjian Pavilion's master swordsmith. No wonder they put out a wanted notice."
"Seriously? He doesn't look more than twenty, yet he had the guts to kill the swordsmith's disciple?"
"Didn't you hear about the incident in Xihuang City? The Tang family was completely wrecked, and even Elder Black Sword, one of Wanjian Pavilion's Four Sword Guardians, was humiliated."
"Really? Who is this Mo Yu that he could even take on Elder Black Sword?"
"Who knows? Posting a wanted notice won't help now; he's probably long gone from the Western Region by now."
"I heard the swordsmith master was so furious when he learned of his disciple's death that he wanted to wipe out the entire Lan family of Xihuang City. It was only when Elder Bing from the Weapon Alliance intervened that things settled down. But even so, the swordsmith master has offered a seventh-grade weapon as a reward for Mo Yu's head!"
"A seventh-grade weapon? Wow, that's a real show of wealth from the swordsmith master!"
…
"A seventh-grade weapon, huh? Seems like Wanjian Pavilion's influence extends even into the Golden Warhorse Clan's territory…" Mo Yu muttered under his breath as he smirked beneath his cloak.
Good. Wanjian Pavilion and that swordsmith master—one day, he would make sure they paid dearly.
Suppressing his anger, Mo Yu nodded to the Black Bat King, signaling that they should enter the city. However, just as they were about to walk through the gates, a cold voice rang out.
"Stop!"
The voice was followed by a sharp sound, as something sliced through the air. Mo Yu's face turned cold, and with a quick step, he dodged to the side as a sharp blade of wind grazed past his head, piercing through a massive tree behind him.
As the sword energy dissipated, a figure emerged from the crowd.
The figure was a young man, clad in a tight black outfit. He had a cold, stern face, and strapped to his back was a large, blue sword that radiated sharp sword energy.
"You've got some impressive skills. How about removing your hood and letting us see your face? Perhaps we can become friends," the young man said, his gaze fixed on Mo Yu, suspicion flashing in his eyes.
"Sorry, I don't make friends with strangers. Farewell." Mo Yu frowned slightly under his hood, then turned and walked away.
Seeing this, the young man's expression darkened, and as Mo Yu continued walking without stopping, he slowly gripped the hilt of his sword and prepared to strike.
However, just as the young man was about to rush forward, the Black Bat King let out a cold laugh and charged towards him.
"Swish!"
In a flash, the Black Bat King and the young man passed each other. A glint of sword light flickered for a moment.
"Clang!"
The young man staggered back, his face pale. His body trembled from the Black Bat King's strength, and a mouthful of blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"That's Tang Ying, the Heavenly Spring Sword! Isn't he the young master of Wanjian Pavilion? What's he doing here?"
"The guy who just fought Tang Ying—who is he? Tang Ying's swordsmanship is extraordinary, even able to hold his own against the older generation of experts. He's one of the top young fighters in the Western Region!"
…
The murmurs of the crowd reached Mo Yu's ears, making him pause. He glanced back at the young man wielding the blue sword.
"Tang Ying, the Heavenly Spring Sword… it's him," Mo Yu muttered under his breath as he stopped.
Suddenly, a mocking voice came from the crowd, followed by the appearance of a scarred man.
"Haha, Tang Ying, you can't even defeat a no-name guy? You're really slipping."
"That's Wang Chen, from the Yellow Spring Pavilion! Even he's here?"
"Isn't Yellow Spring Pavilion from the Eastern Region? What's he doing in the Western Region, hanging out with Tang Ying?"
"There's going to be a big trading event hosted by the Golden Warhorse Clan in a few days. Wanjian Pavilion and Yellow Spring Pavilion are probably here for that."
"No wonder so many powerful people have been gathering in Golden City lately—it's because of this event."
…
"A trading event…" Mo Yu murmured, his eyes gleaming with thought.
At this moment, Tang Ying, who had steadied himself, narrowed his eyes at Mo Yu and said, "There's a familiar aura around you. Would you mind showing your face?"
Hearing this, Wang Chen folded his arms and glanced at both Tang Ying and Mo Yu, a smirk forming on his face.
The crowd at the gate also noticed something and began to shift their gaze between Tang Ying and the hooded Mo Yu, sensing a brewing conflict.
As if eager for a show, some people even stopped to watch, their faces filled with curiosity.
"Hmph, my master isn't someone you can just demand to see!" The Black Bat King stepped forward, tossing aside his hood to reveal his long, scarred face.
At the same time, two massive black wings unfolded from his back, and a terrifying aura spread across the city.
"The Black Bat King!?"
"What's he doing here? He's a seventh-tier magical beast!"
…
As the Black Bat King's wings appeared, gasps of fear erupted from the crowd, and they hurriedly distanced themselves from him.
The Black Bat King's name carried weight in the Western Region, as few seventh-tier magical beasts could transform, and he was among the strongest.
"Black Bat King? You're the ruler of your own territory. What business do you have here in Golden City?" Tang Ying's expression turned serious as he spoke.
Even though he was one of the top young fighters, he knew that without the elders from his pavilion, he couldn't handle a seventh-tier beast like the Black Bat King alone.
"Hmph, what I do is none of your business. Not even the elders of Wanjian Pavilion have any say in my affairs. If you know what's good for you, step aside and let me and my master enter the city," the Black Bat King said coldly as he stood respectfully behind Mo Yu.
"Master? So the hooded man is the Black Bat King's master?"
"Could he be another transformed magical beast? If so, how powerful must he be?"
Hearing this, the crowd turned their attention to the hooded figure, their eyes filled with confusion and amazement. Only a powerful individual could command someone as strong as the Black Bat King.
Tang Ying also looked suspiciously at Mo Yu. If this person was the Black Bat King's master, could his earlier sense of familiarity have been wrong?
Just as the tension was thickening, a calm laugh broke the silence.
"Haha, everyone, let's not fight. As they say, a guest is a guest. Why not give me, Ma Teng, some face and refrain from fighting here in Golden City?"
With those words, a middle-aged man in a yellow robe, with a square face and an unfathomable aura, walked out of the city gate.
Behind him marched a squad of half-human, half-horse Golden Warhorse guards. Although not fully transformed, the weakest of these guards was at the fifth tier, and the strongest had even reached the peak of the sixth tier!
Seeing this, Mo Yu's expression tightened, and he glanced at the man in the yellow robe, murmuring to himself, "The second son of the Golden Warhorse Clan leader, the lord of Golden City, Ma Teng!"
