Chapter 438: The Purple-Gold Scale, Another Encounter with the Weapon Thunder
"She Wu Wan..."
Upon hearing this name, Su Yao's face froze for a moment. Then, as if recalling something, a faint blush spread across her delicate cheeks, and her beautiful eyes revealed a trace of indescribable emotion.
Seeing Su Yao's reaction, Mo Yu became even more certain that she indeed had some unknown connection with Uncle She (She Wu Wan).
On the side, Dan Qin'er, a young woman dressed in colorful robes, noticed her usually calm teacher blushing for the first time, and a look of confusion flickered in her eyes. In her memory, her teacher had never blushed before.
However, Elder Huan Yin seemed to recall something as well, and a long-buried memory slowly surfaced in her mind. She looked at Mo Yu with some surprise.
"She Wu Wan..." Su Yao murmured the name again before looking at Mo Yu. "What is your connection to him?"
"Uncle She and I met by chance, but we've gone through life-and-death situations together. To me, Uncle She is like family," Mo Yu said solemnly.
Since his rebirth, Uncle She had been a great help to him, and Mo Yu regarded him as someone very important.
"A family-like elder..." Su Yao gazed intently at Mo Yu. No wonder she had sensed a faintly familiar aura from him earlier—it was from She Wu Wan.
For a moment, Su Yao's expression softened, but then her face quickly turned cold again. She spoke in an icy tone, "I'm sorry, but I don't know who that person is."
Mo Yu was taken aback by her sudden change in attitude, but then he understood. A bitter smile appeared on his face.
It seemed that Su Yao still held a grudge over what had happened years ago. Mo Yu couldn't really blame her; Uncle She had indeed acted improperly back then. Even if he regretted his actions, he should have at least tried to make amends by seeking forgiveness.
Mo Yu believed that most women have soft hearts despite their sharp tongues. If Uncle She had put in the effort, he might have been able to win back Su Yao's favor. Shaking his head, Mo Yu decided that he would have to intervene on Uncle She's behalf.
"Master Su," Mo Yu said, clasping his hands in a respectful gesture. "Uncle She has mentioned you many times and holds deep feelings of regret. He always wanted to find a way to apologize and ask for your forgiveness."
Su Yao's cold expression softened slightly, but her voice remained distant. "It's been decades, and I've never seen him once."
Seeing a glimmer of hope, Mo Yu let out a sigh of relief and quickly continued, "Master Su, it's not that Uncle She didn't want to find you—he couldn't."
Her brow furrowed slightly as Su Yao asked, "What do you mean?"
"To be honest, Uncle She encountered powerful enemies. When I met him, he was already a disembodied soul. Later, due to some unfortunate events, he burned all his bloodline power to save me. He's now in a deep slumber. That's why I've come to your Sound Valley, not only at Elder Huan Yin's request but also to seek your help in finding a way to revive him," Mo Yu explained.
"What? With his abilities, he was reduced to a mere soul and is now in a deep sleep?" Su Yao's jade-like hands clenched, and a flash of concern crossed her beautiful face.
Mo Yu nodded gravely, then removed a beast ring from his hand, unlocking the soul seal within it, and handed it to Su Yao.
Understanding Mo Yu's intent, Su Yao's soul power carefully entered the ring. As she sensed the familiar aura inside, a complex mix of emotions—nostalgia, worry, and resentment—flashed in her eyes.
"Teacher..." Dan Qin'er, having realized that this man named She Wu Wan had a significant connection to her teacher, spoke with concern.
"Master Su, though there may have been misunderstandings between you and Uncle She, this is a matter of life and death. I ask that you let bygones be bygones and not hold his past mistakes against him," Mo Yu pleaded earnestly. "Uncle She said that reviving him isn't entirely hopeless, but it requires finding a way to evolve the Seven-Winged Purple-Gold Snake into a Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake. I once met the old patriarch of the Golden Warhorse Clan, Ma Chen, who traveled with you and Uncle She in your youth. He mentioned that you might have knowledge about the Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake."
"The Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake, huh? That's quite a high bar," Su Yao said, her expression softening slightly upon hearing that there was a way to revive She Wu Wan. However, her brow furrowed again as she continued, "The Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake is an ancient magical beast, long extinct. Most people have never even heard of it."
She returned the beast ring to Mo Yu with a sigh. "I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about the Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake."
Mo Yu opened his mouth to say something but could only smile bitterly. He had hoped that this conversation would lead to a solution, but it seemed they had reached a dead end.
"However..." Su Yao's gaze shifted as she continued, "I do have something that might help you in your search for the Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake's legacy."
"Oh? What is it?" Mo Yu asked eagerly.
Instead of answering right away, Su Yao reached into her storage ring and produced a purple-gold scale that radiated a strong bloodline aura.
"This is something I purchased by chance at an auction when I was younger. After doing some research, I discovered it's likely a scale from the ancient Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake. A magical beast of this level far surpasses ordinary creatures. With this scale, if you ever come across a place linked to the Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake's legacy, it will emit a glow to guide you. Although it's like searching for a needle in a haystack, it might still offer you some help," Su Yao explained.
"Thank you, Master Su! This scale is incredibly helpful," Mo Yu said, accepting the purple-gold scale with gratitude.
Now that he had this "locator" of sorts, Mo Yu felt much more confident in his future search for the Nine-Winged Purple-Gold Snake's legacy.
"You're welcome. After all, he is..." Su Yao trailed off, a trace of longing appearing in her eyes.
Seeing her reaction, Mo Yu smiled gently, understanding that Su Yao hadn't completely let go of her feelings for Uncle She.
...
After obtaining the purple-gold scale, Mo Yu didn't forget his primary task: repairing the Heavenly Demon Purgatory Zither. Despite the rarity and value of the materials needed, Sound Valley was one of the three great valleys, and within half a day, all the necessary materials were placed on Mo Yu's table.
The valley was vast and lush with greenery.
At the center of the valley stood a stone platform about ten meters tall. Surrounding the plaza were many women, most of them young and beautiful, dressed in colorful clothes. They were clearly disciples of Sound Valley.
On the other side of the plaza, there was a slightly elevated platform, not as tall as the stone platform in the middle but high enough to offer a clear view of the entire area.
Standing atop this platform was Mo Yu, along with the Heavenly Demon Purgatory Zither inside a furnace.
"Is he really an eight-grade weapon refiner? He looks so young. Can he really repair our valley's treasured Heavenly Demon Purgatory Zither?" a beautiful Sound Valley disciple asked worriedly, looking up at the high platform.
Her companions immediately began chattering in response.
"I heard from the elders that this young man is about our age, but he won the recent weapon-refining tournament and is a genuine eight-grade weapon refiner!"
"Oh my! A weapon refiner of such a high level, and he's so handsome too. I wish I could marry him."
"You little minx! A young, promising eight-grade weapon refiner like him? You're dreaming if you think he'd notice you."
"Hmph, maybe he'll find me pretty and fall for me. You never know..."
...
"Quiet! Don't disturb Master Mo Yu!"
Elder Huan Yin frowned and scolded the disciples who were whispering in the crowd. Her voice was sharp.
The moment she spoke, the entire plaza fell silent. No one dared make a sound, as they knew the importance of the Heavenly Demon Purgatory Zither to Sound Valley.
For three full days and nights, the plaza remained as silent as a grave. During that time, not a single person left. Everyone's attention was fixed on the stone platform, eagerly waiting to see if the young man standing there could complete the final step.
"Teacher, do you really think Master Mo Yu can do it?" Dan Qin'er asked nervously, her eyes fixed on the still furnace.
Su Yao opened her eyes and sighed softly, gazing at the motionless Mo Yu. "At this point, we can only trust him. He's the youngest eight-grade weapon refiner in the history of the continent, and our only hope."
Hearing her teacher's words, Dan Qin'er nodded. She silently prayed in her heart: Mo Yu, you have to succeed...
As if hearing her prayers, the vast energy within the valley suddenly began to stir.
On the stone platform, Su Yao's eyes shot open, filled with joy. She turned her gaze to the furnace in the center of the platform, sensing a familiar aura emanating from within.
Boom!
At that moment, dark clouds gathered in the sky above the valley, rolling in with a sudden, ominous force. Lightning crackled within the clouds, creating a frightening display.
"Weapon Thunder? Did he really succeed?"
The sight of the clouds left all the disciples frozen in awe, their voices filled with excitement and disbelief.
Dan Qin'er, standing in her colorful robes, looked up at the sky, her slender body trembling with emotion.
"Did he really succeed?"
As the thick clouds spread across the sky, blocking the morning sunlight, the valley became shrouded in darkness, save for the occasional flash of lightning cutting through the clouds.
The energy on the stone platform had reached its peak, and even the surrounding atmosphere seemed to tremble under its influence.
Inside the furnace, red flames burned fiercely, and above the flames, the Heavenly Demon Purgatory Zither rotated continuously, emitting waves of powerful energy that reverberated off the furnace's walls, producing a metallic clanging sound.
Mo Yu, watching the zither spin within the furnace, couldn't help but smile despite the pallor of his face.
However, his exhaustion was evident. His eyelids drooped, and fatigue washed over him from deep within his soul. This repair had taken a massive toll on him.
After all, this was a five-colored, eight-grade weapon—far beyond his current refining limits. And even though he was repairing it rather than creating it from scratch, the effort required was still immense. It had even summoned Weapon Thunder.
As the lightning from the clouds reflected off Mo Yu's pale face, his weakness became even more apparent. Anyone could see that he had given his all.
"Master Mo Yu, you've done enough. Leave the Weapon Thunder to me. You should rest," Su Yao said with a smile, finally breaking free from her excitement when she noticed how drained Mo Yu was.
Just as Su Yao was about to rise and face the Weapon Thunder herself, Mo Yu's strained voice reached her ears: "Master Su, leave the Weapon Thunder to me."
Su Yao's face showed confusion. "Master Mo Yu, don't worry. This Weapon Thunder won't be a problem for me. You're in no condition to deal with it."
"I know you can handle it, but my Celestial Thunder needs feeding," Mo Yu replied with a tired smile, muttering to himself as he leaped up to stand beside Su Yao.
He glanced at Su Yao and chuckled. "Master Su, the Weapon Thunder is useful to me, so please, let me take care of it."
"Since you insist, Master Mo Yu, I'll leave it to you. But if anything goes wrong, don't hesitate to call for help," Su Yao said, still uncertain about why he was so confident. However, since the Weapon Thunder had come because of Mo Yu, it wasn't her place to object.
After Su Yao stepped back, Mo Yu sighed in relief and looked up at the sky, where the Weapon Thunder brewed. A flash of excitement gleamed in his eyes...
