Chapter 55 - Evolve

Taking a step forward he tilted his head as he looked at her, he was scanning her. His mind was playing scenarios, trying to find the right steps to make.

Looking back at him she shifted her body, taking a fighting stance. He smiled in response, pushing off he dashed towards her.

When their fists met, his body reacted on its own; grabbing her wrist. He pulled her in, readying his knee. Her seeing this, prepared her self to counter it. But he was ready for it. The moment her feet left the ground, he twisted his hands, making their palms face upwards. He pulled as hard as he could, slaming his shin into her shoulder.

She winced at the pain, losing her grip. Letting go she fell towards the ground, but placing her hand out, she twisted her body kicking him in the face. His feet left the ground as his neck cracked from the impact.

For a moment his eye flickered back to normal, then a wave of energy hit him. He gritted his teeth. Catching himself, he pushed off his hands, mimicking her kick. She raised her arm to block the kick, then she pushed against him. Before he could fall over, he readjusted landing back on his feet.

When he turned back to her he could see her jumping in place, then with incredible speed, she closed the gap between them. The moment she got close she struck him in the gut, shifting she punched him in the face. After two more face shots, she hit him in the ribs, knocking him off balance. Before he could fall, she grabbed his wrist pulling him back. She struck his ribs again, then kicked his knee, making him kneel, before slamming her own into his jaw.

She let go of him, allowing him to fall to the ground. She took a step back, waiting for him to get back up but he didn't move. Walking up to him, she pulled his head up by his hair. Looking into his eyes she could see the darkness receding and the light in his eyes slowly fading. She frowned at the sight, pulling him close her mask dissipated as she whispered into his ear.

"Shatter."

His eyes twitched, then his pupils enlarged. The receding darkness spread, encompassing his eyes once more. His body twitched, then he grabbed her wrist tightly. He squeezed as hard as he could, till the point of it breaking.

Channeling his strength he effortlessly tossed her aside. She flipped in the air, landing softly and sliding back a little. She looked down at her mangled wrist, then looked back at him.

He was sitting on his knees, with his head pressed to the ground. He pulled at his hair, as he silently screamed in agony. She watched as he repeatedly slammed his head on the ground, shaking it trying to rid it of the something.

Her voice repeatedly rang out in his mind, the images grew more grim pulling him deeper into madness. He felt as if he were drowning in his own mind, he felt any semblance of control he had, slipping.

He slowly looked up at her with a wicked, feral smile. But it wasn't him, it was the madness, the voices in his head... Her voice.

She watched as he stood before her, his body slumped over. She remained cautious as she watched him, he was more unpredictable now. She might've been the one to break the restraints on his mind, but that meant there was no longer any control behind those eyes.

He dashed wildly at her, his upper body still hunched over. His movements were beastly, as he swung at her, as if trying to rip her apart.

It took one swift movement for him to close the gap, she was barely able to move before getting her face clawed into. His speed increased tremendously. With the lack of hesitation from his mind, his body reacted much faster than she expected.

Her mask reformed, as she jumped back from his lunge. Her broken wrist twisted as it healed, the moment she landed she threw it out. He ducked under the strike, grasping her forearm tightly, and pulling her into a strike to her face. The hit was strong, knocking her head back, but she gritted her teeth. Grabbing his arm she swept under his leg, knocking him onto the ground. Once she was free of his grip, she sent an axe kick towards his chest.

Rolling out of the way he repositioned himself, and lunged at her on all fours. She dodged his assault, but the moment he passed her he clawed at the air narrowly missing her. But out from his hands ripples could be seen in the air in the shape of claws.

For a moment, his dark eyes held a small white light as his instincts took over, activating the power hidden within. Creating a slash created from pure energy.

The more she dodged, the more he adjusted to her; moving faster striking harder.

The soul was the purest form of all things living and dead, and now without his humanly connection there was nothing left to stop it from reaching it's true potential and evolving.

But how does one's soul evolve, there are many ways. Breaking through the boundaries that make you mortal. Surpassing the limits set upon you. Or in this case setting aside all, emotional attachments, all thoughts, all hesitation. Cementing yourself in the world of divinity, ridding yourself of the constraints of mortality. Or simply by taking control of all things that make you, you. Your thoughts, your emotions, your mind, body and spirit. Your future, past and present. Severing the strings of fate that bind you, and ascending past those that created you.

The very things that bound him were taken away, and now without them, his soul was evolving right infront of her. His hidden power revealing itself for the first time. His aura taking form, his speed and strength advancing past human capabilities. The primal instincts that hunt for survival, fight to improve, that learns from the experiences. All of it taking form and pushing him further.

As the fight continued he advanced further, observing her fighting style; adapting to it, using it against her. His advances grew more and more fierce as she tried to defend herself from the onslaught. Soon he was the one with the upper hand, predicting her movements and using them against her.

But this outcome was exactly what she was looking for. Her purpose for being here; for bringing him here, was to free his mind and body. Helping him evolve as soon as possible was her goal, to help him outgrow the ones before him. But now the last task was up to him. Only thing left for him was to take control over his body, reconnect his mind, and emerge as someone completely different. This was his first trial.
