Ben leaned forward, his eyes wide. "This is revolutionary, Gladion. Mega Evolution stones in Indigo? If we find how to use them to mega evolve, we'd be a force to be reckoned with, stronger than ever."
"If another war like the Infinite Pokémon War broke out, we'd have nothing to fear." His voice was electric, his aura sparking with visions of power for the region.
'The League could dominate,' he thought, his mind racing. "In fact, if we show this strength and keep it in the region, we could stop a war before it even starts—be a buffer against anyone dumb enough to challenge us. Now the peace would not only be determined by the presence of Legendary Pokemon. Heck with mega evolution, We would be able to counter some of the weaker legendaries to a certain degrees."
He paused, his gaze sharpening. "But when you said you had stones… how many are we talking?"
Gladion rubbed the back of his head, his cheeks flushing slightly, his aura flickering with embarrassment. "It's in the lower thousands," he mumbled, looking away.
'I dug up half of Hoenn for those,' he thought, recalling endless nights scouring deserts with his psychic Pokémon. Ben's jaw dropped, his aura flaring with shock.
"Thousands? That's much more Mega Stones than the Kalos trainers had in the war!"
'Maren's stories said they were myths, but this? They had at most a hundred. This is insane.' He leaned back, muttering, "That's way beyond what anyone thought possible."
Gladion shrugged, 'Even I didn't expect this many.' In the anime from his past life on Earth, Mega Stones were rare, almost legendary.
He'd assumed there'd be a thousand at most across Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn. But after years of searching, using his psychic Pokémon —Ultron, even Latios and Latias and Sabrina and her Pokemon—to sense buried energy, he'd uncovered troves hidden deep underground.
Gladion hypothesis was that Groudon had them burried under ground when the battle ended between him and Kyogre.
He probably did not want Hoeen to get more mega evolution stones and become stronger. This would have made them continue war against other regions.
'Most trainers don't have the patience or the power to dig like I did,' he thought, his aura steady.
'Hoenn's deserts hid them well. Without my team's psychic senses and my obsession, they'd still be buried forever.'
Ben said,"You are keeping that many evolution stones somewhere with you. Please tell me they are not hidden somewhere in the gym or our backyard. If word gets out, we would start needing army protection around our estate."
Erza sighed, tossing her hair, her aura a mix of pride and exasperation as she handed the stone back to Gladion. "When your grandpa Maren told you to make the Vortex name big, he didn't mean this big, Glady. You're so troublesome, it's almost funny!"
Her voice was half-scolding, half-laughing, her Charizard snorting in agreement, its tail flame flaring. 'My baby's got enough power to start a war or stop one,' she thought, her aura heavy with worry.
Ben's thoughts echoed hers, his smile fading. 'He's putting a bigger target on his back than he already has with Rocket and those corrupt officials.'
"You're playing with fire, son," Ben said, his voice softer. "Literally."
Erza crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "Alright, troublemaker, tell me how to Mega Evolve Charizard. And why can't you do it? Honestly, You're a better trainer than me, Glady, and your bond with Colossus is as tight as mine with Charizard."
Gladion shrugged, his smirk wry. "Honestly, I don't know. I've tried everything—focusing my aura, syncing with the stones, nothing works."
'It's frustrating as hell,' he thought, his aura twitching. 'I've got the stones, the Key Stones, the bond, but something's missing or something is wrong with me.'
Erza's eyes gleamed, her competitive streak kicking in. "Well, let's give it a shot." She took a Key Stone from Gladion, slipping it into a bracelet that Gladion also gave her, its faint glow pulsing against her wrist.
She handed the Charizardite X to her Charizard, looping it around its neck like a necklace.
The dragon growled softly, its aura syncing with hers. 'We've been through everything together,' Erza thought, her heart racing.
'If anyone can make this work, it's us. Well after Gladion.' She closed her eyes, her aura reaching out to the Key Stone.
'No reaction yet. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.' An idea struck her, her aura sparking. 'What if I use the Key Stone as a bridge, sending my aura to the Mega Stone, and Charizard does the same?'
She shared the thought with Charizard, who nodded, its eyes fierce.
"Let's go, Charizard," Erza said, her voice steady but electric. She focused, her aura flowing into the Key Stone, reaching for the Mega Stone's energy, while Charizard mirrored her, its own aura pulsing.
Suddenly, light erupted from Charizard, a blinding glow that filled the room.
Gladion smiled wryly, 'Not even ten minutes trying mega evolution and she says I am the talented one.'
