Gladion saw a solid wall of Pokémon racing straight at them from the front and both sides.
In seconds the spear formation of the army would be surrounded and crushed.
The main army behind them pushed upward slowly, step by step. The objective of them was to slowly get Mt.Silver under control. Their backs were safe for now, but the flanks were wide open.
Gladion could not let the tide close the circle. If they stopped moving, they would be overwhelmed by Pokemon from all sides and even if their Pokemon were stronger or more trained, it would not take too long for them to be tired and crushed.
Gladion looked at Ultron. "Psychic. Push everything in front to the sides."
Ultron's eyes flashed bright blue. Gladion closed his own eyes and poured his aura into the link. Blue-white light exploded from both of them. The psychic wave hit the front line like an invisible tsunami.
Thousands of Pokémon (Raticate, Arbok, Sandslash, Donphan, Ursaring) lifted off the ground. They flew sideways in two giant arcs, legs kicking helplessly in the air.
They crashed into the Pokémon rushing from the flanks. Bodies tumbled and rolled. Smaller Pokémon disappeared under heavier ones. Screams and roars mixed with the crunch of bones and the thud of bodies hitting rock. Dust and dirt flew up in clouds. Hundreds were trampled in the stampede they had caused. The path ahead cleared in a violent sweep.
Gladion's stomach turned, but he forced his face to stay hard. Mercy was a luxury they did not have today.
Gladion has used his own psychic aura to enhance the power of his Metagross. And Metagross was not a weak psychic Pokemon either, he was a pseudo legendary trained by a very strong human Psychic trainer since it was a beldum making it's psychic prowess already very strong.
The old general riding beside him stared with wide eyes. He had seen strong psychics before, but never a human boosting a Metagross to that level. "That boy just turned his own aura into a battering ram," he muttered. "If he didn't have monsters like that Tyranitar, I'd tell him to quit everything and become a pure psychic specialist. Scary kid."
The army moved again, faster now that the front was open. But the sides closed in fast. Pokémon poured from every slope and cave, ready to swallow them.
Gladion's mind raced. They could not fight two endless walls at once. He thought about waves to make the two flanks pause and let the main army handle them. Their main target was after all the leaders of this Pokemon tide and Moltres.
He shouted new orders. "Trainers with Water Pokémon! Rain Dance now! Split left and right! Everyone else, use Hydro Pump, Water Pulse, Surf, anything that could make the Pokemon wet! Soak both flanks!"
The command travelled down the chain of command through speakers and radios. Hundreds of soldiers ordered their Pokemon to do as Gladion ordered even if most were confused about what making the Pokemon wet would do. Although some experienced soldiers realised what he was planning to do.
Gladion pointed to his own Pokemon, "Mystique left! Hydros right! Rain Dance full power!"
Mystique rose high on the left, tail glowing. Hydros planted his cannons on the right. Dark clouds gathered in seconds. Then the sky opened.
Heavy rain poured down like a waterfall. Every Pokémon on both sides became soaked in moments. Fur clung to skin. Wings turned heavy. The ground became slippery mud.
Gladion and Zeus shared the same sharp grin.
"Zeus, jump! Discharge, maximum range!"
Zeus leapt high, body crackling yellow. He hung in the air for a second, then released. Lightning burst from him in every direction. It hit the wet ground and raced along the water. One bolt became ten, ten became a hundred. The electricity danced across the soaked Pokémon on the left flank.
Rhydon locked stiff. Ursaring howled and fell. Golem sparked and rolled to a stop. Beedrill dropped like stones. The chain kept going for hundreds of metres, jumping from body to body. Smoke rose from fur burned. Hundreds collapsed, twitching or completely still.
Gladion had used discharge which while was less strong than moves like thunder or thunderbolt had the advantage of range.
Other soldiers with electric type Pokemon did the same and used such moves.
Gladion spun to the right flank and gave the same order. Another Discharge lit up the mountain. The same scene repeated on the other side. Paralyzed and unconscious bodies piled up like walls of flesh and scales. The surviving wild Pokémon could not climb over the barrier of their own kind.
The spear pushed forward again. The path stayed clear. Mud squelched under hooves and claws.
Gladion lifted his hand to call another Rain Dance. He wanted to repeat the trick.
But the rain stopped. Not slowly, suddenly. Dark clouds parted as if sliced by a knife. Bright sunlight poured down. The temperature jumped. Water on the ground hissed and turned to steam. Sweat instantly beaded on every face.
Gladion wiped his forehead and felt the heat burn his skin.
"So Moltres made its move," he said quietly. "One Sunny Day from her ended the Rain Dance of hundreds of Pokémon and turned the whole mountain into an oven."
He could not help but smile wryly. "Legendaries really are gods, are not they?"
