Gladion stared at Collosus. "They are going to help us?"
Collosus nodded once. [Mother says fighting us is pointless. She saw how strong we are. Six of them together could not stop us. She does not want more blood to fall. She had already seen many Pokemon die on both sides. She knows that if we continue more Pokemon of the Pokemon wave would fall. She doesn't want that.]
Gladion let out a slow breath. That made sense.
Collosus continued. [Too many Pokémon have already died today. She wants to stop the killing. She will clear a path straight to the top so you can face Moltres faster. Fewer lives lost on both sides.]
Gladion felt respect grow inside him for the giant mother.
[She also wants to speak with you,] Collosus added.
Gladion walked forward until he stood in front of the huge female Tyranitar. The other five formed a half-circle behind her. All of them watched him with serious yellow eyes.
Gladion bowed slightly. "Thank you for your help. Can Moltres be reasoned with?"
The mother Tyranitar rumbled, and the ground shook a little. [The queen is beyond reason right now. Humans stole her egg. She has ordered every Pokémon on this mountain to destroy the cities below as payment. She will burn everything until her egg is returned.]
Gladion's stomach dropped.
[She will search to the ends of the world,] the mother continued, [but she will leave only ashes behind. My son says you are different than other humans. He says you will bring the eggs back. And I am willing to trust you on that human.]
Gladion met her gaze. "I promise I will do everything to return every stolen egg, including yours and Moltres's."
She studied him for a long moment. [Just do not let my son die while trying to stop Moltres. He is strong, stronger than any Tyranitar I know, but he is still no match for the Queen of this mountain. I don't want to lose a son just to save another son of mine.]
Gladion placed a hand on Collosus's arm. "I will protect him with my life."
The mother nodded slowly. [Your life would be in most danger against her. But I am sure that you would lose the battle against her. Queen is too strong for the likes of you human. I will try to barter for your life and my son's with her. That's why we would be coming with you to the top.]
'She is so sure of us losing huh? Collosus let's give your mom a suprise.' Gladion telepathically said to Collosus who grunted affirmatively.
The mother Tyranitar said, [The leaders of Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Rhydon, Golem, and Steelix will listen to me. If you swear to return their eggs too, I will ask them to stand down. The other species are too wild or too angry. They don't answer to us. They will keep attacking. But even half the wave gone will save many lives.]
Gladion did not hesitate. "I swear on my name and on the Vortex family that I will bring every egg back safe as long as they are unharmed. I am pretty sure they should be unharmed since destroyed they would not have any value to the ones who have stolen them."
She gave a low, satisfied growl. "Then follow."
The six Tyranitar turned and walked ahead of the army. Collosus stayed beside Gladion. Together they moved upward.
Every few hundred metres, the mother Tyranitar stopped and roared. A Nidoking, Nidoqueen, a Rhyhorn , a Steelix, and a group of Golem stepped out from the rocks.
They listened while she spoke. Some snarled. Some glared at the humans with pure hate. One Nidoking even slammed his tail so hard the ground cracked.
Gladion stood still and kept his promise clear in his eyes.
Finally the mother raised her voice louder. Collosus added his own earth-shaking roar. The six Tyranitar behind them stepped forward and growled in unison.
The wild leaders looked at the human army, then at the seven Tyranitar ready to fight for the humans, and finally at Gladion. One by one they turned away. They lifted their heads and gave long, deep calls.
All across the mountain, Nidoking stopped charging. Nidoqueen pulled their children back. Rhydon turned around. Golem rolled to a halt. Steelix sank into the earth along with the dozen onix.
Thousands of Pokémon that had been ready to kill suddenly walked away. The pressure on the army dropped at once.
Soldiers stared in disbelief. Some dropped to their knees and thanked the sky. Others cheered weakly. The path to the summit became almost clear.
Gladion looked around. Only half the wave remained, and those were the species too angry or too far from any leader to listen. The army moved faster now. They climbed the final slopes with new energy.
At last the ground levelled into a wide, rocky plateau. In the sky above burned Moltres.
Her wings were made of living flame. Heat rolled off her in waves that melted stone. Her eyes glowed white with fury. The sky above her was red.
Gladion turned to the general who had stayed close the whole climb. "Keep everyone here. Stay far back. Do not let anyone near the fight."
The general looked at the blazing bird, then at the young man he had watched lead the army despite being younger than him by decades. He gave a small, proud smile.
"Good luck, kid. Try not to die. I still want to meet Maren on the other side before you do."
