The celebration had started peacefully. That was, unfortunately, the last peaceful thing that happened that night.
Gladion's team enjoyed their drinks peacefully until they had too much of it.
Gladion had made the mistake of believing that giving his Pokémon high quality berry alcohol would lead to a pleasant celebration. He had forgotten one very important fact.
His Pokémon were not exactly known for their restraint.
The first sign that things were going wrong came from Zeus.
The Electivire was sitting proudly near one of the tables, holding a large cup between his hands. He had already emptied several cups and was now staring at the drink in front of him with the serious expression of someone who had just discovered the meaning of life.
He slowly raised his cup toward the others and nodded with great dignity before drinking the entire thing in one go. A few seconds later, his eyes widened.
[This drink has given me enlightenment. I now understand the true nature of thunder.]
Arsenal sitting beside him, looked at Zeus with confusion before taking another drink himself. [You have been drinking too much. I do not think thunder has anything to do with what you are talking about.]
Zeus stood up immediately. [You doubt the wisdom of the thunder god?]
Before Arsenal could answer, Zeus raised both of his arms toward the sky.
Lightning suddenly erupted from his body.
Several thunderbolts shot into the air and exploded harmlessly above the ranch.
Gladion, who had been sitting comfortably at the table, slowly lowered his cup and stared at the sky. "Zeus, I am going to give you one chance to explain why you are firing lightning inside my gym ranch."
Zeus turned toward him with a completely serious expression before pointing toward the sky. [I was demonstrating my newfound wisdom, Gladion.]
Gladion rubbed his forehead. "That is the stupidest explanation I have heard all week, and considering the people I spend time with, that is an impressive achievement."
Arsenal apparently decided that Zeus had received too much attention.
The Magmortar suddenly stood up and raised both of his cannon like arms toward the sky. His eyes shone with excitement before he began firing Fire Blasts upward one after another. Great balls of flame shot into the night sky and exploded like fireworks.
The gym workers who were working nearby immediately stopped what they were doing.
One of them stared upward in horror. "Should we stop him?"
Another worker watched Arsenal fire another enormous Fire Blast into the sky before quietly shaking his head. "I value my life too much to walk toward that thing."
Gladion watched another explosion light up the night. "Arsenal, at least aim away from the buildings."
Arsenal gave him a drunken thumbs up.
[I understand completely. I will aim at the empty sky where there is absolutely nothing important.]
Gladion looked at him suspiciously. "That sentence somehow made me less confident."
Unfortunately, the situation became even worse when Guy started wrestling. The Machamp had already been drinking for quite some time when he suddenly looked across the ranch and noticed Rocky, the Rhyperior, standing nearby.
Guy's eyes widened. He slowly walked toward Rocky with the determination of a warrior who had discovered his greatest challenge. Rocky was busy remembering his old trainer Maren, Gladion's grandpa.
[Rocky, my friend, tonight I have discovered that there is only one proper way for two mighty warriors to celebrate a glorious victory.]
Rocky stared at him. [You are going to say wrestling, aren't you?]
Guy's grin widened. [You understand the burning passion of youth better than I expected.]
Rocky sighed. [That is not what I meant.]
Guy immediately grabbed him despite his protests. Rocky tried to resist, but Guy had already wrapped all four arms around him.
[Come on, Rocky! Show me the strength of your youth! You cannot allow yourself to be defeated by a single Machamp who has had several cups of berry alcohol!]
Rocky growled as Guy lifted him off the ground with all his strength. The massive rhyperior was lifted by a puny Machamp.[Put me down before you embarrass yourself.]
Guy lifted him even higher. [Your words are filled with fear, my friend! I shall now give you an attitude adjustment worthy of a true warrior!]
With a loud grunt, Guy threw Rocky onto the ground. The impact shook the nearby tables.
Everyone became silent. Rocky slowly lifted his head from the ground. [Did you really just throw me because you wanted to give me an attitude adjustment?]
Guy placed his hands on his hips with a proud smile. [Yes, because sometimes a warrior needs a powerful reminder that gravity is stronger than his attitude.]
Rocky stared at him for several seconds.
Lee had been watching the entire thing while sitting near the edge of the training field. The Annihilape slowly stood up.
His eyes moved from Guy to Rocky. A dangerous grin appeared on his face.
[If Guy can wrestle Rocky, then perhaps I should test my strength against the Alpha Tyranitar.]
Everyone immediately turned toward him. Gladion's eyes widened. "Lee, I strongly recommend that you do not challenge Colossus tonight."
Lee ignored him. [Colossus, I have decided that tonight is the perfect night for us to settle which one of us possesses the greater fighting spirit.]
Colossus slowly turned his head. The Alpha Tyranitar had been sitting peacefully with his drink. He had managed to avoid most of the chaos because nobody had been stupid enough to bother him.
Unfortunately, Lee had just ruined that.
Drunk Colossus stared at the drunken Annihilape.
Lee stared back. The two remained silent.
Then Colossus slowly raised his drink.[No.]
Lee's face fell. [You cannot reject a challenge from the burning spirit of youth.]
Colossus took another drink. [Watch me.]
Lee looked genuinely offended. [Your refusal wounds my warrior's pride more deeply than any attack could.]
Colossus continued drinking. [Then perhaps you should drink until you forget about it.]
That seemed like excellent advice to Lee.
He immediately sat back down.
Gladion watched the entire exchange with disbelief. "I cannot believe Colossus was the most responsible Pokémon here tonight."
Unfortunately, Colossus's peaceful evening was not destined to last.
Nyx had apparently decided that the Alpha Tyranitar looked far too serious. She began pestering him. She poked his arm. Then his leg. Then she climbed onto his back.
Colossus slowly turned his head. [Please stop.]
Nyx laughed. [You look too serious for someone at a party.]
Colossus closed his eyes and tried to ignore her. She poked him again.
[Are you sure you do not want to play with me? Everyone else is having fun.]
Colossus's eye twitched. [Nyx, I am asking you politely to leave me alone so I can finish my drink.]
Nyx poked him again. That was the final mistake.
Colossus opened his mouth. Gladion immediately noticed the gathering of energy. "Colossus, do not."
The Alpha Tyranitar fired a Hyper Beamat Nyx but due to being drunk, he could not aim properly.
The massive attack shot across the night sky and struck a distant mountain. For several seconds, nothing happened. Then the mountain exploded.
The distant peak disappeared beneath a massive cloud of dust and rock.
Gladion slowly looked at the destroyed mountain. He then looked at Colossus.
Colossus calmly returned to drinking as Nyx backed away.
Gladion sighed and took out his phone.
"Hello? Yes, this is Gladion Vortex. Colossus destroyed a mountain near the gym ranch. Please pay whatever fine the local authorities give us."
A voice on the other end apparently protested.
Gladion frowned. "Yes, I know the fine is excessive. No, I do not care. Just pay it."
He paused. The voice continued speaking.
Gladion rolled his eyes. "Bah, pay them. We are rich. What is the use of having so much money if I cannot occasionally use it to escape the authorities after my Pokémon destroy a mountain?"
The voice apparently became even more concerned. "Yes, I understand that this is not technically how the law works. Just make sure the paperwork disappears into whatever pile of paperwork government offices use to forget things."
Gladion ended the call. Sabrina would probably have a headache when she heard about this. Then again, she had already accepted that dating Gladion meant accepting a certain level of chaos.
By the time the night grew darker, the celebration had finally begun to collapse under its own weight.
Zeus had stopped firing lightning because he had fallen asleep while sitting upright.
Arsenal had somehow fallen asleep beside him with one cannon pointed toward the ceiling.
Guy and Rocky were lying next to each other after their wrestling match, both completely exhausted.
Lee had fallen asleep while still talking about challenging Colossus.
Even Colossus had finally lowered his enormous body onto the ground.
One by one, Gladion's Pokémon simply fell asleep wherever they happened to be. Some were lying against each other.
Others were sprawled across the grass. Gladion took a spot on the grass cuddling to his umbreon.
Ultron sighed as he looked at his master. He teleported his master to his room.
