Chapter 294 - Chapter 294: Soul Aftereffects, Promotion Plan, Financial Crisis

Like a naive child who accidentally flips a corner of an ancient book page, only to discover an entire epic recorded behind it, Ronan gradually calmed down from an unprecedented and inexplicably immense shock.

He wasn't sure about the chronological order of Herams' collection of ancient spirit texts and his acquisition of the Ancient Star Book from the Star School. However, he was certain of one thing: Herams must have discovered the subtle connection between the two.

The Ancient Star Book was the correct key to unlocking the true hidden mysteries of the ancient spirit texts. For Ronan at this stage, the goal of piecing together the ten primordial origin runes through the ancient spirit texts was still too distant. Even Herams might not have achieved it. But using this as a clue to trace the legendary path of Herams, the Natural Law Master, was worth a try.

"The formation of the Law-Controller inheritance system must be inseparable from the ancient spirit texts and the Ancient Star Book... Retracing Herams' footsteps would undoubtedly bring great benefits to my collection and comprehension of this inheritance," Ronan silently pondered.

With this in mind, Herams' additional spell inheritance left at Spirit Lake became yet another reason Ronan had to obtain it.

"Success depends on effort."

Alazan had no idea how turbulent and stormy Ronan's thoughts had become in such a short time because of his words. In response to Ronan's brief reply, he simply said indifferently, "Instead of dreaming so high and far, you'd better worry more about your immediate concerns."

What Alazan referred to was the aftereffects of Ronan's four-life reincarnation. After Ronan's first attempt at reincarnation through dreaming, fragments of memories from the dream would occasionally flash before his eyes. Now, the situation had worsened. Every time Ronan closed his eyes, layers of dream memories would rapidly flood his mind. Each memory felt so real, as if he had personally experienced it. His willpower was so strong that even Alazan was impressed, but that didn't mean he was unaffected.

The crystalline clusters of memories constantly collided and scraped in his mind, sometimes suddenly "collapsing" and forcibly pulling his consciousness back to a specific "dream experience" node. His soul density had greatly increased, but it was now mixed with too many impurities, making it resemble a pool of murky water. Back and forth, even Ronan wasn't sure whether his soul aptitude had improved or deteriorated.

"This is just the beginning," Alazan warned in a low voice. "Your condition will only get worse. Over three hundred years of life experiences piled together will cause your emotional perception to 'overload' and 'short-circuit.' Your sensitivity to joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness will gradually diminish, and your personality will unknowingly shift toward 'indifference.' Life will lose its vibrant colors. Following that, your soul's metabolic clock will become disordered. The chaos and entanglement of memories will eventually directly affect your body. While your soul's lifespan remains abundant, your physical body will randomly fluctuate between youth and aging, accelerating its decay."

Ronan knew that Alazan was not exaggerating. Similar warnings had been issued to him many times during the trials at the Tower of Knowledge, but each time he had chosen to ignore them.

"I have a way," Ronan replied calmly.

"With that fire-based spell of yours that specializes in soul enhancement?" Alazan was referring to the Golden Flame of the Golden Soul.

"Partly," Ronan pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, "If my understanding is correct, when a third-level wizard advances to the fourth level of Dawn, the soul undergoes significant refinement, right?"

"I guessed that would be your final reliance," Alazan's tone suddenly softened. He sighed softly and said in a low voice, "The problem is, in your current state, it's uncertain whether you can successfully advance to the fourth level."

"There will be a way," Ronan gently cut off the mental communication with Alazan.

He walked out of the meditation room and found a comfortable spot in the living room to sit down. Arrietty brewed him a cup of black tea. He watched the sunlight cast golden shadows on the living room floor and listened to the melodious singing of the mermaid shells in the fish tank.

It was a rare moment of tranquility and beauty.

For a brief moment, Ronan suddenly felt that it might be nice if things could always stay this way.

"Alazan is right. The experience of four natural deaths has unknowingly tainted my mindset with a sense of twilight," Ronan shook his head. In the past, he would never have entertained such thoughts of settling into peace and comfort.

Others might choose to lie flat, but he could never do that.

Any one of the "swords" hanging above his head could easily sever his life. To have even a sliver of a chance to survive in the cracks of fate, he had to keep running forward without pause.

Ronan pulled out an exquisitely crafted deep blue ring from the sleeve of his wizard robe and examined it casually.

The ring was given to him by Heliodor. It was a space ring, bearing the emblem of Spirit Lake, signifying his identity as a wizard of Spirit Lake.

Inside the ring were two sets of wizard robes, one white and one blue.

The moon-white robe was the standard attire for Spirit Lake wizards, while the deep blue one was uniformly provided by the Deep Sea School. The quality of the latter was slightly higher than the former.

It was woven from the silk of a fourth-tier spider-like magical beast and carefully soaked in a special potion, leaving no trace of impurity or negative energy. The robe was inscribed with several runes: [Cleansing], [Protection], [Adaptive Transformation]. Besides the robes, there were also a few third-tier magical artifacts, all of auxiliary nature. The only offensive artifact, a wand, was still a semi-finished product, with the energy crystal slot at the top deliberately left empty, presumably to allow the wizards who received it to install a crystal according to their own needs.

Finally, there were two spell badges representing his identity—Spirit Lake and its branch, the Deep Sea School.

Ronan donned the robe and badge of the Deep Sea School and then took out a book-like auxiliary magical artifact from the accompanying items to examine.

This artifact, named the "Spirit Lake Book," could be considered a "Spirit Lake edition" of a wizard's encyclopedia.

The contents not only included an internal map of the functional areas within the Spirit Lake Secret Realm, a large map of the three major empires of the Central Continent and other regions, but also stored a vast amount of common knowledge, covering fields such as potion-making, alchemy, rune studies, and forging.

Ronan was momentarily captivated until he was startled by a communication wave emanating from his space ring.

"Jason has also successfully joined the Wizard Heart Hall."

Holding a communication device shaped like a black bat, Ronan's eyes flickered slightly. Jason was a particularly unique wizard among those he knew. Despite being an evil black-robed wizard, he possessed a "childlike heart," bearing a deep-seated blood feud yet not allowing hatred to distort his mind.

Such individuals often achieve significant accomplishments, but their fate can also be tragically unfortunate.

After some thought, Ronan congratulated Jason and also informed him of his own successful entry into Spirit Lake.

Not long after, he received Jason's congratulatory reply.

Ending his brief exchange with Jason, Ronan put away the "Spirit Lake Book" in front of him and stood up to walk outside.

Before obtaining the "Awakening Potion," the effect of the Golden Fire of the Golden Soul on refining and burning away soul impurities was his only means to alleviate the aftereffects of practicing the "Spirit Heart Amber." He needed to practice even more diligently.

He intended to use the soul transformation power during the promotion from a third-level to a fourth-level wizard to completely resolve the issue of aftereffects, but he first needed to meet the conditions for promotion. There was so much he had to do, and he constantly felt the urgency of time.

In the bright and tranquil secret realm space.

Ronan, clad in a deep blue Wizard Robe, hovered quietly in mid-air.

At a certain moment, he suddenly opened his eyes, which had now turned into a dazzling golden color from their usual azure.

The latest novel is first published on 69shuba!

A surge of dense law domain energy emerged, generating an invisible terrifying force. Golden ripples appeared in the void, with faint golden flames flickering within. Wherever his gaze swept, the air twisted as if scorched by flames. The lush green grass beneath Ronan, affected by the Spell, withered without warning, turning into ashes in large patches.

"Master level, [Brass Head]!"

Ronan exhaled slowly, his aura retracting, and his eyes gradually faded from their golden hue.

"The fusion of the four types of [Golden Fire] extraordinary law domains has made the power of the [Golden Fire] law domain increasingly terrifying, already touching the edge of the 'Forbidden Magic Domain.' Among the five Spell inheritances of the [Golden Fire Spirit Maya] system, only [Diamond Heart] remains slightly short of reaching the master level."

Once all five Spells break through to the master level, forming the [True Golden Fire] fusion law domain and summoning the [Spirit Maya] avatar, it would undoubtedly be a terrifying means comparable to the Taboo level.

This process, natural and smooth, clearly told Ronan that this was just the beginning.

[Golden Fire Spirit Maya] is merely the starting point of [Golden Country], and beyond [Golden Country] lies [Golden Nation]... It's unimaginable what the future holds for Ronan.

Ronan calmed his slightly agitated emotions and descended, discovering Arrietty, who was on the verge of tears, at the edge of a patch of scorched earth.

Every plant and tree in this space was cherished by her, and she would spend every day tending to them until late at night, finding joy in the process.

Now, a large patch of the lawn had been destroyed by Ronan, and she was on the verge of tears from the heartache.

Ronan hurried over to comfort her, taking great pains to explain to Arrietty that the grass in the Spell practice field had a self-repairing function. The destroyed lawn would grow back soon enough, and if she found it too slow, he could purchase a special cultivation solution from the Spirit Lake to speed up the process. Only then did Arrietty's mood improve slightly.

After coaxing Arrietty away, Ronan stood alone on the scorched earth for a while longer.

Perhaps due to the subtle influence of over a thousand ancient spirit characters, or maybe because his mental power had improved again, the plan to split the Law-Controlling rune into seven parts was proceeding exceptionally smoothly.

During this period, Ronan had not only successfully engraved the first part of the Law-Controlling rune onto a Mental Power Crystal but was also in the process of engraving the second part. However, it was still uncertain whether the final "seven-in-one" would successfully replicate the hundredfold energy amplification effect of Law-Controlling.

Ronan currently had a total of ten blank Mental Power Crystals. Apart from the seven occupied by the Law-Controlling rune, there were three left.

For these three blank crystals, Ronan's initial plan was to use one to engrave the "Shattered Space" rune he had obtained from the mysterious garden within the ancient Mirror Court.

He had been contemplating this rune ever since, and now had a rough understanding of it. Along with this rune, he had also obtained a mysterious key filled with a strong spatial aura, which had been gathering dust in his space ring.

The second blank crystal would be used to engrave Hekalto's "Crimson Ice" rune, which Ronan had obtained during a "dream transaction" with Hekalto. This rune, appearing on one of Hekalto's heads, represented the essence of frost and was the key to unlocking the power of Taboo. Red Ice.

These two Soul Rune engraving plans were just Ronan's current ideas, and it was still uncertain whether they would succeed.

As for the last blank crystal, he didn't have any particularly good plans. He thought that if there were no better options, he might as well engrave the ice rune of the Omnipotent Spell Ring.

Sometimes, having too many Mental Power Crystals and too many empty slots for Soul Runes could also be a source of trouble.

While pondering this, Ronan suddenly had a change in expression and took out a faintly glowing blue crystal from his space ring.

This was an internal communication tool from the Deep Sea School of the Spirit Lake, capable of adding an unlimited number of contacts.

Currently, the only contact stored in Ronan's communication crystal was Haliodor.

Haliodor's message was simple, just asking Ronan to come and see him.

As of today, it had been three months since Ronan entered the Spirit Lake. Haliodor, who had introduced him and claimed to have Ronan as his potion assistant, had not contacted him at all. Ronan had almost thought that the "old sea otter" had forgotten about him.

After tidying up his appearance a bit, Ronan hurriedly left the space.

It was no wonder Ronan was so "eager"; he was currently very... short on money!

During these three months, Ronan had used the "Spirit Lake Book" to look up information on the Awakening Potion and the Dawn Ascension Array.

The former yielded nothing, while the latter provided extremely detailed information.

The Spirit Lake would freely offer the blueprint of the Dawn Ascension Array to the wizards within its domain, but the materials required to construct the array had to be provided by the wizards themselves.

When Ronan left the southern region, he received two substantial gifts of magic stones—one from Ke Si Di and the other from Soraya.

Inside his space ring, there was a small mountain of high-grade magic stones. At one point, he had considered himself quite "wealthy."

That was until he saw the list of materials required for the Dawn Ascension Spell. "A single ascension is enough to deplete the lifelong savings of a third-level wizard."

Ronan couldn't help but grit his teeth when he recalled the prices on that material list.

Even if he emptied his entire fortune, he could only gather one-third of the materials listed.

Now he understood why several ring masters of the Silver Magic Ring were stuck at the peak of the third level, unable to break through.

A lack of accumulated strength might be one reason, but insufficient wealth accumulation was likely the biggest factor.

Mobilizing the entire resources of the Silver Magic Ring only allowed the First Ring Master to successfully ascend to the fourth level of Dawn.

These poor souls, who had been eagerly waiting for the day they could return to the headquarters of the Magic Ring, were probably also troubled by the resources needed for the fourth-level ascension.

Actually, if it were just this, it wouldn't be too bad. Ronan had previously killed Lumiere, a fourth-level wizard of the Elemental Ring, and obtained the space ring he carried. Although the items he found inside weren't many, combined with the idle magical artifacts he had accumulated and various spell inheritance knowledge, selling off a portion could still gather the materials needed for one ascension.

The key was that Alazan chose this moment to make a couple of "sarcastic" remarks, instantly making his already distant goal seem even more unreachable.
