Chapter 185 - Chapter 185: The Dread Doctors' Goal

Deep beneath Beacon Hills, inside the Dread Doctors' hidden lab, the three masked figures stood around a table, speaking in distorted, mechanical tones.

"He's missing." One of them said. "The chimera—Donovan. He's gone."

Another said. "It must've been Theo. He let him out."

"Theo was always a liability." The third added. "We should've terminated him sooner."

Silence fell. Then one of them muttered. "What if the True Alpha and his pack found them? If they read either of their memories…"

The room went quiet.

"We can't take that risk." The first said. "The True Alpha is too strong. Last time, he broke my arms. We need to abandon this lair immediately."

"Agreed." Said another. "Pack what you can. We leave now."

But just as they began gathering equipment, Scott and his pack stormed in through the entrance. The Dread Doctors didn't hesitate and moved to activate their electromagnetic teleportation—but Chris was ready.

He activated a sleek device that filled the room with a loud, disruptive buzzing.

Aiden winced and looked at Chris. "Ugh, what is that noise? It's driving me insane!"

Chris grimaced. "Ultrasonic emitter. It scrambles their power frequencies. I found a mention of it in Gerard's old journals. Figured it was worth a shot."

Trapped, two of the Dread Doctors turned to the third.

"Go. We'll hold them off."

The third grabbed a heavy black suitcase, nodded once, and sprinted through a side exit.

Scott and Stiles tried to chase the fleeing Doctor, but the two who remained activated a sonic device. A painful, high-pitched frequency filled the lab. The entire pack collapsed to their knees in agony, clutching their ears.

Blood trickled from Scott's ears as he growled in pain. Then, with brutal focus, he jabbed his claws into his own eardrums, deafening himself and halting his regeneration with sheer willpower so the wounds wouldn't immediately heal.

Then he vanished in a swirl of shadows, teleporting toward the fleeing Doctor.

But it was too late.

That brief moment of delay was all the third Doctor needed to escape the emitter's range—and teleport away.

Scott reappeared at the side exit, making sure the two remaining Doctors didn't escape. Then his eyes glowed red and glared at them.

"That hurt." He growled. "And now you're going to pay for it."

He raised his hands, and two lightning bolts blasted out, striking the Doctors. Their sonic devices exploded, and both fell to the floor, convulsing from the electric shock.

With the sonic assault disabled, the rest of the pack began to recover.

Stiles wiped blood from his ears and staggered forward. "Damn... that hurts."

Scott walked over to one of the fallen Doctors, grabbed him by the neck, and drove his claws into the back of his neck—diving into his memories.

Stiles did the same to the other.

A moment later, both Scott and Stiles stood, their expressions grim. Without hesitation, they each grabbed the Doctor they had read—and ripped off their heads.

Stiles cursed. "Sick bastards."

Aiden stepped forward, frowning. "Was their memory that bad?"

Scott nodded. "Yeah. Horrific. They did all kinds of human experiments for centuries, and they turned a lot of people into chimeras in town, so we'll get busy the next few days."

He turned toward a large tank filled with green liquid. Inside, a man floated, hooked up to a breathing mask.

Scott smirked. "But at least they left something good behind."

Isaac stepped closer, peering into the tank. "What is he?"

Scott replied. "He's a Löwenmensch."

Boyd blinked. "A what now?"

Stiles answered. "He's a werelion—a German soldier who committed numerous war crimes."

Stiles walked over to a nearby table, picked up a pair of old-fashioned-looking goggles, and turned to Boyd with a mischievous grin. "Hey Boyd, want to try these on? They can give you supersight and let you detect every supernatural creature in Beacon Hills."

Boyd narrowed his eyes, he didn't trust Stiles at all. "Then you wear them yourself."

"Coward." Stiles muttered, then turned to Isaac. "What about you? You want to try them?"

Isaac looked at Scott instead. "Scott, what are those goggles actually for?"

Scott sighed. "What Stiles said is true. They let you see supernatural beings. But according to the memory I read from that freaky doctor, there's a catch. Once you put them on, hidden spikes inside the frame stab into the soft tissue around your eye sockets. causing immense pain and significant injury to you."

Isaac stared at the goggles, horrified.

"Come on." Stiles said, shrugging. "Yeah, they hurt, but the wounds heal once you take them off. It's worth it—we could use them to find that evil fox, or any remaining chimeras."

Scott raised an eyebrow. "Then why don't you wear them, like Boyd said?"

Stiles smirked. "Because I'm not a masochist."

Chris spoke up. "Scott, did you figure out what the Dread Doctors were really trying to do? I don't buy that they were just randomly creating chimeras."

Scott shook his head. "No, they weren't. But I'll tell you guys with the rest of the pack when we go back home."

Chris nodded. "Alright. Let's clean up and get out of here."

Scott closed his eyes for a moment, sensing Braeden's location. She was at the sheriff's station. He opened a shadow portal to a hidden corner inside the station, pulled her through, and brought her to the Dread Doctors' underground lab.

Braeden looked around. "This is their lab?"

Scott nodded. "Yeah. But I brought you here for him." He pointed toward a large containment tank. "He's an Alpha werelion. If you absorb his power, you'll become an Alpha too."

Braeden glanced at the figure inside the tank. "Is he evil?"

Stiles replied. "Oh yeah. War criminal level evil."

Braeden said. "Then I won't feel bad about this."

Without hesitation, she smashed the glass of the tank and absorbed the werelion's power. A crimson glow flared in her eyes—she had become an Alpha.

She turned to Scott with a grateful smile. "Thanks. Now, can you send me back to the station? I've got a ton of work to do. We caught two chimeras tonight—a wendigo and a werewolf, but we still haven't found that evil fox yet."

Stiles asked. "Are the chimeras dead?"

"No." Braeden said. "Parrish sent them to Deaton. They're just students, and they didn't hurt anyone."

Scott opened a shadow portal back to the station, and Braeden left.

As silence settled back over the lab, Stiles turned to see Theo, who had woken up a while ago and was now trying to sneak away. Stiles smirked darkly. "Where do you think you're going?"

Theo froze, then turned to Scott in a panic. "Please, they made me target you and your pack. Let me go—for the sake of our childhood friendship!"

Scott looked at him with open disgust. 'This bastard destroyed Scott's pack in the original timeline… even got Liam to kill Scott. I hated him when I watched the original show, and I still hate him now.'

Then he smiled coldly. "Stiles… teach him the trick to turn to ash and disappear like Deucalion."

Stiles stepped forward slowly.

"I didn't like you the moment I saw you. You once asked us where Deucalion went. Let me send you to him." He said, voice low and cruel.

Theo decided to fight. His eyes glowed yellow as he roared at Stiles and attacked him.

Stiles caught Theo's clawed hand and smiled evilly. His other hand ignited as he said. "Goodbye."

With a final smirk, Stiles drove his flaming hand through Theo's chest. Theo screamed, body turning to ash as flames consumed him. Once it was over, Stiles burned Donovan's body that they had brought with them, and the werelion's corpse too.

Then, Scott opened a shadow portal to the company lab and found Deaton and Marin there. Without wasting time, he brought them both to the lair of the Dread Doctors.

Deaton and his sister quickly began scanning through the Dread Doctors' research. After just a few minutes, Deaton said. "This is great. This is exactly what we need to complete the cure for the chimeras."

Scott nodded. "Then we'll leave you to it. We're heading home."

"Wait." Deaton called out. "Help us move everything useful back to our lab first."

Scott sighed. "Fine."

Together, they transported all the valuable research and equipment through Scott's shadow portals—along with the bodies of the two Dread Doctors.

Once that was done, Scott opened a portal to the pack house and gathered the pack. Deaton, Noah, Braeden, Parrish, and Liam were busy elsewhere, but the others listened as Scott explained what had happened in the Dread Doctors' lair.

Chris folded his arms. "Alright. Can you finally tell us what the Dread Doctors' real goal is?"

Scott sighed. "Unfortunately… it's about your crazy family again."

Chris narrowed his eyes. "What? What do you mean?"

Scott looked at Allison. "Do you remember the story I told you about the origin of your family?"

Allison nodded. "Yeah."

"And do you remember Marcel?"

"Of course." She said slowly.

"Well... he's one of the Dread Doctors. And his goal is to find a suitable body for your dear many-greats-uncle Sebastien to possess."

"What?!" Allison gasped. "He wants to bring that monster back life?"

"Not exactly." Scott said. "The Beast was never truly dead. It's like a kitsune. Even if you kill a kitsune, the fox spirit survives and finds a new host."

Allison sighed. "So… Marie-Jeanne didn't actually kill the Beast back then?"

"I guess not." Scott said.

Melissa frowned. "Alright, hold on. You two—start from the beginning. What's going on?"

Scott looked at Chris. "Do you want to tell the story, or should I?"

Chris sighed. "Go ahead."

So, Scott told them the story of 'La Bête du Gévaudan' and the 'Maid of Gévaudan', explaining the dark history of the Argent family.

When he finished, Derek muttered. "So that's the monster they want to bring back…"

"Yeah." Scott confirmed.

Kira asked. "Did you guys manage to kill that Marcel guy tonight?"

Scott shook his head. "No. He was the one who got away."

Then he turned to Stiles. "By the way—tell Uncle Noah the names of the chimeras we found in the Dread Doctors' memories. And let him know the kind of people the Doctors were targeting."

Lydia asked. "What kind of people?"

Stiles replied. "They targeted teenagers who were already genetically predisposed to chimera traits—like those who had organ transplants or fetal resorption syndrome."

Melissa said. "So… they were targeting people with two sets of DNA?"

"Exactly." Stiles said.

Scott stood up, rubbing his face. "Alright… I need to go home and take a shower. I feel like I need to wash my soul. Those memories I read were… horrible."

Stiles stood too. "Scott, send me to the sheriff station."

Scott opened a shadow portal, and Stiles stepped through it.

After that, Scott walked out of the pack house. Allison followed him, and together they walked home—back to the lake house.
