The name of Baokang County originates from the "Baokang Army" of the Northern Song dynasty during the Yongxi era, meaning "to protect and keep the people safe." It was only after Great Xuan established his reign that Baokang County was established.
Although Baokang County has only been built for a mere hundred years, this region has been inhabited by people for a long time, tracing back even to Xiong Yi, the former king of Chu.
Years of war and chaos have never reached these places.
The reason is simple: within the territory of Baokang County, mountains overlap and ravines crisscross; the terrain is undulating and varied, with countless streams and rivers.
To be strict, this area is also considered part of the Jing Chu mountains and forests. Some villages remain secluded all year round, self-sufficient, and even collecting grain taxes from them proves difficult for the government.
In times of turmoil, it is akin to a utopia.
