We're getting there. I can feel it. The queen is slowing down—we've whittled her down enough that she bleeds now, and her movements are no longer as sharp. But the problem is me.
The more I use this ability, the more I feel something cracking inside me. My hands are still steady, but my thoughts aren't.
Blood thirst.
Kill. Kill. Kill.
Blood.Blood.Blood.
It chants inside me like a drumbeat, rising above the noise of the battle, seeping into the corners of my mind like poison.
I hate this feeling.
I hate not being in control.
It's why I never use this part of my power unless I have to. Because the more I command blood—especially this kind of corrupted, monster-infested blood—the more it tries to command me.
I clench my teeth and channel it anyway.
