"The entire city is under martial law. Where are we going to stay? Is the inn still open?" Jiang Xiaobai asked.
Hei Gu replied, "Just follow me, I guarantee you won't be sleeping on the streets."
Jiang Xiaobai followed Hei Gu, weaving through the streets and alleys. The two moved quickly, their figures well-concealed, avoiding patrol after patrol of soldiers.
Hei Gu led Jiang Xiaobai into an inn, and upon entering, he took out from his bosom a circular object made of black iron, about palm-sized with a pattern on it. He placed it on the counter, and the Manager nodded to him, personally leading the two of them upstairs.
The Manager settled them into a street-facing guest room.
"This humble one greets Lord Hei Gu!"
Once inside the room, the Manager immediately knelt on one knee to pay respects to Hei Gu.
Hei Gu said, "No need for that, these formalities are unnecessary."
