The coughing sounded like it was from the final stages of tuberculosis, and one could make out the cougher trying to expel the thick phlegm from their throat, but always failing.
"Shh..." Chen Ke made a hushing gesture and glanced over the building, finding no one inside.
"What do you see?" Daniel whispered. He had already guessed that Chen Ke's sparkling blue eyes possessed some kind of detection ability.
"I see nothing, and that's the problem," Chen Ke replied.
He picked up his REC7 automatic rifle and slowly made his way toward the source of the sound, while the Secret Keepers behind him also got ready for combat.
Inside the squat bungalow, the window sealed with wooden slats emitted a musty smell. Chen Ke pointed his rifle at the pitch-black gap between the slats and blew forcefully, sending a cloud of dust swirling.
"Cough cough cough cough..." The coughing from within seemed almost like a response to Chen Ke.
