Xu Jing pressed against the wooden porch, slowly moving her feet, three soldiers walked by on a small dirt road beside her, talking to each other in the South Asian language, but she didn't understand.
Seizing an opening, she darted out of the shadows and slid to the side of a green jeep, leaning against the tire. She was now deep inside the camp, scanning around for any clues.
It was now 22:00, which counted as night. Although the Red Era had altered human's biological clocks, most still adhered to traditional routines. The camp was very quiet, and the patrolling soldiers on the dirt road weren't very alert, which greatly facilitated Xu Jing's movements.
Xu Jing moved from behind the jeep and swiftly ran to behind a two-story wooden building. She looked up just as a soldier suddenly opened a window that had been shut and threw out a clump of trash.
