CHAPTER START---

---February 2nd, 2015…

Standing in Shoko Ieiri's office, Taiyo watches her draw on a whiteboard for some time, ignoring the setting sun through the window while copying her diagram into his notebook.

Minutes later, she completes her diagram, and he copies the entire thing into his private Jujutsu Notebook before closing it.

"Your method is a lot different from mine," he says as she walks over to her desk and picks up her coffee. "How do you process it, mentally, I mean?"

Taking a long sip of her drink, she glances back at the board, then turns to him. "Well, I'm a natural talent at this. Really, it's all I'm good for. So it was always instinctual. At first, it was like feeling the warmth in my body and directing it to myself or others I could touch.

But now, I have a better understanding of the Reversed Cursed Technique. And my medical knowledge makes me a lot more efficient. Now I understand that my RCT saturates and grips onto still-living cells, and only living cells.

It can be used to preserve dying cells a while longer if needed, but there must be motion within the organism. If someone lost a heart and I didn't have enough Cursed Energy to regrow it for them, I could preserve the body and place them into a coma until you or Principal Gakuganji came by to fully heal them.

But that's a very advanced application. For the most part, I visualize it at the cellular level. Permeate the cells. Then, I use their own DNA as a blueprint to form cells and blood with Cursed Energy.

Generally, I prefer to use blood bags for transfusions since making blood costs more Cursed Energy than bone, skin, or muscle. More complex things like nerves and organs also take more. And I can't imagine the Cursed Energy cost of repairing a brain, not to mention the complexity.

And gods forbid something happens to one of Gojo's eyes. His Six Eyes is a physical mutation, not a Cursed Technique, so technically, I can repair it. But the cost increases with complexity, and the genetic composition along with the strange branches of nerves in his eyes and brain are beyond anything else in nature."

"So it costs more Cursed Energy for him to heal compared to a comparable wound on someone else."

"Yes. Aside from someone with Cursed Energy reserves like yourself, one does not casually heal Satoru Gojo. Even for myself, I've studied him for some time so I could repair it, but I'd likely be spent for the entire day after that."

"Yes, but healing Satoru Gojo back to a battle-ready state solves all other possible problems, so it's the obvious choice."

"Always," Shoko takes a big sip of her coffee. "But generally, the more detailed you can be with your visualization and understanding of the subject, the easier it is. Your lessons have been going well, and your RCT external output is already ahead of mine, befitting your rank of Special Grade."

"Yes, but I'm still missing something," Taiyo says. "There is a connection with this, Innate Techniques, and the mechanics of Jujutsu."

"Do you think this will give a big enough advantage to fight Gojo?"

"It can't hurt. But I'm also more concerned about his stamina. If this were a game, he'd have limitless endurance, mana, and health points. But that's because of the constant replenishment faster than it can be spent…aside from Domain Expansion."

Shoko sighs. "You helped me with my research today, so allow me to help with yours now. Stop trying to make sense of Satoru Gojo. You aren't him, and you'll never be him. He breaks the understood rules of Jujutsu in his own way because of the Six Eyes, so find your own way to break them.

After all, you're Special Grade. Satoru, Yuki, Suguru, and you, Taiyo Daburu. You're all monsters who break our understanding of Jujutsu, so instead of putting all Special Grades into a bucket, focus on carving your path.

You've already done that fairly well, but I think taking the approach of understanding Gojo is flawed. You should aim to become just as difficult to understand as he is, in matters of Jujutsu at least."

Taiyo falls silent, pondering her words, then nods. "My main advantage is my Cursed Energy capacity."

"Mhm, you have well over twice the Cursed Energy as Satoru, but can't hope to match his efficiency."

"What happens if I dump all of that into RCT?"

"No," Shoko says. "The only reason Satoru can have permanent RCT running through his eyes, brain, and body, is because the Six Eyes stabilizes it. It keeps him fed with just enough RCT to heal the damage it and the Limitless is constantly doing to him by being on 24/7.

If a regular person tried that, even if you could program your Cursed Energy to perform subconscious operations at that level of complexity, you'd kill yourself. You'd overload your body eventually due to some random fluctuation and destroy whatever is constantly being damaged. Your brain would likely be overfilled with RCT and explode and melt away."

"Hmm. Every time I use RCT, my understanding grows intuitively, to the extent that I can almost feel the individual cells healing and forming."

"A side effect of Immolation?"

"Most likely. Since I can affect atomic heat, feeling the changes in my body at the cellular level is simple enough. After all, I passively raise or drop my atomic heat to avoid feeling cold or warm."

"Lucky. But what are you planning with this?"

"Hmm. I'm not quite sure if I can call it a plan yet, more like a hunch. But I'd like to keep it in my back pocket for as long as I can."

Shoko frowns. "If it works and can be used to help others, I'd like to learn about it."

Taiyo chuckles. "Trust me, if it works you'll want to kick my ass for trying something this suicidal…but it would be spectacular."

"Ugh, you Special Grades are all the same. You each have a different packaging, but crazy is crazy…"

"Is it really so crazy to aim for the top?"

"If Satoru Gojo is in the way, yes, it absolutely is."

"Whatever. I've still got three more fights with him before I'm out of Jujutsu Tech, and I plan to make them count."

"Enough about your fight crap, tell me about how your RCT felt on those patients today. And I want to know how your Cursed Energy Trait of the warmth it carries affects it. How do you factor that in?"

"What's the end goal here?" Taiyo asks. "If you tell me, we can start working backwards from there."

"RCT can repair damages, effectively bringing something back to the state it was in before the injury. If done properly, there won't even be a scar. But what if we could truly treat people?"

"What do you mean?"

"What if instead of simply healing a broken arm, we could flow Cursed Energy through a person and change a cancerous cell to a regular one?"

"Can't we cut it out, then heal them?"

Shoko shakes her head. "No. RCT will repair the body to its previous natural state, meaning it will regrow a cancerous cell. It's not meant to be used as a cure, only a repair tool. We're limited to that until we can find a way to change the sequence.

Flood with RCT, target the desired area, and use the body's DNA to regrow the missing pieces.

That's the sequence. But if we could step into the interval where the DNA is scanned and regeneration begins—"

"We could change the state of what's regrown. You'd be able to remove someone's blind eyes, and instead of regrowing the same problem because their DNA had them born blind, you could give them a working set."

"That particular example would also require us to alter the wiring of their brain, but yes, that would be a use case. However, RCT, and most of Jujutsu and anything Cursed Energy related, is based on instinct.

I'm hoping that you, a Special Grade who can actually heal others, unlike the other Special Grades, can help me solve this problem I've been working on for over a decade.

To alter a sick person into a healthy person by bombarding them with RCT. That way, we can do more than simply patch people up and send them back into a fight. Those who live by the sword accept the risks of their choices, but I'd like to do more to help the people that get caught in the crossfire…"

"I see. And while the Six Eyes is perfect at analyzing Cursed Energy, Gojo can't heal others, so he's stuck behind a wall in regards to this."

"His abilities are only good when used for selfish reasons."

Taiyo nods. "Alright. I'll work on this project with you."

"Really?"

"I have a condition," Taiyo says. "I'd like you to tell me all about the Six Eyes."

Shoko glares at him. "Is potentially healing the world not enough?"

"Not. Even. Close."

She rolls her eyes. "Fine, but I'll only tell you the public stuff. It would still be a hassle for you to find, so this is making your life easier, but I'm not sharing private information Satoru told me in confidence."

"Deal…"
