Chapter 149 - CHAPTER 148

BRAD CLOONEY STARTED talking nonsense to himself while performing operations on the computer.

— This mask here... the hidden IP... this, an encryption...

Clooney had his own theory. If there was some kind of communication link, it would somehow be accessible to anyone who knew how to find it. Martin was concerned for their safety and feared that they might be found through Brad's research, and commented:

— Two of my people have already died because I looked for what I shouldn't have. Don't you think it's dangerous for us to do that?

Brad Clooney stopped typing, resting his fingers on the flexible keyboard where he typed and keeping his eyes fixed on the screen, as if what he had heard was something terrible.

— What do you think I am? — he asked, very irritated. — Some kind of ScriptKiddie ? They didn't recruit me into the Agency by chance, my friend!

And he eagerly began typing codes and terms that Martin and his new friend would never understand.

Martin kept quiet, he wasn't going to argue with him about something he didn't understand. Although he used the Internet extensively in his work, he was just an analyst for the Bureau. All those codes and techniques his friend used were a huge mystery to him. He sat down on a nearby crate and waited, Benedetti did the same. They remained for a few minutes in that tedious atmosphere, watching Clooney voraciously type in codes and search terms, grumbling and grunting, until they heard a sudden exclamation:

— Incredible!

"What did you find?" Martin asked, jumping up from his seat.

— This video is not from the time we thought! It is not from the Moon project, as we imagined, but from another experiment, called PANDORA, as it is written in the caption. — replied the hacker.

— From what period?

— I found out that this material was in DARPA's records, so I decided to go into their database and search for the members of the Moon project. And there was Dr. Robert Payne! — Clooney said with an expression of satisfaction.

—So you're suggesting that Dr. Payne left the failed Moon project and was recruited by DARPA?

— It makes perfect sense! Moon was terminated due to "failure", right? Years later, they called the doctor and restarted the research, under a new name, to disguise it, perhaps...

— It's true. — Martin concluded, impressed by the news. — Why wouldn't it be that?

— To answer your question, — Clooney continued, — the doctor is listed in DARPA records from 1958, which leads us to believe that was the date of the resumption of this experiment and this video is probably later than that.

— Certainly... — Martin concluded thoughtfully. — Now everything is connected. The Moon project was not successful, but it was continued years later, and from what we witnessed yesterday, I believe it was very successful.

— You can believe it, man! But apparently, the government's plan backfired...

Benedetti broke out of his inertia:

— I would like to know why the name Pandora...

Martin thought for a moment and said:

— Pandora's box. A gift from Zeus that, when opened, brought all evils to humanity, leaving only hope inside.

— Do you think that's it? What would the box be?

— I don't know, maybe the mind...

— Ah! — exclaimed Clooney. — Enough rambling! Let's get to the point! I found some more documents here.
