John Brown said again, "Everyone get ready, exert your strength when I tell you to; for now, keep conserving your energy. Our direction should still be towards that island, let's save some strength first."
At this moment, everyone looked to John Brown for leadership, and no one voiced any objections. Each one was saving what little strength they had, aiming to swim to the island in one go.
As they watched the island get closer and closer, everyone's breathing became somewhat labored. John Brown, however, was constantly feeling the direction of the ocean currents. When the current changed direction, he shouted loudly and swam vigorously towards the island.
