Chase took a sip of coffee, which was a strange thing to drink inside of The Dark Forest, then again everything was considered strange inside of this place.
He was sitting on a branch, with a handcrafted cup resting in his hands made of twigs and some rocks.
Zephyr was sleeping higher up on the branch, and Lithica was sitting next to Chase muttering something about time.
"How long have you been down there?"
He felt it was quite wrong to ask, but he was genuinly curious how he had survived with no food, water, or even knowing that he would ever escape.
Lithica turned his head, and shrugged.
"No clue! I don't remember much, but I remember fighting someone very strong..."
Chase raised an eyebrow.
"Was it the Hollow?"
He shook his head.
"No, actually I could have taken that Hollow with my eyes closed."
It was quite funny to hear that, because Chase had litterly killed the Hollow with his eyes closed, although not intentionally.
"So, you still haven't told me your name?"
"Chase, and the old dude is Zephyr."
Lithica frowned.
"You mean the soul spirit?"
"He is a devil, but I think that only me and people with like really strong vision can see him, since his main body is still in the underworld or something like that."
"A devil? They still exist?"
He asked, as if in complete shock.
Chase nodded.
"I don't think they ever come to the world of the living anymore though, Zephyr is only here to train me."
Lithica tilted his angelic head.
"Train you?"
Chase nodded.
"Well what god do you serve?"
Lithica asked, which made Chase nearly choke on his coffee.
"I- I uh don't really serve a god, or follow any for that matter."
"Impossible."
Lithica said flatly.
"What do you mean?"
The angel sighed, preparing himself for what must have been a really long explanation.
"The gods are very powerful forces in this world, without gods there is no humans and it goes even deeper than that. Without the ones above all, there is no greater gods, and without the greater gods there is no primordial beings, and without the primordial beings there is no lesser gods, and without the lesser gods there are no spirits, elementals, or celestials like me, and so on."
Chase frowned.
"What are you exactly?"
Lithica looked as if it was quite an awkward thing to explain, which did make Chase recall what Zephyr had said in the mines.
"I am not supposed to be what I am..."
"Hm?"
Lithica gazed into the luscious foliage of the vibrant forest.
"I am a Celestial, which is a construct of a spirit mixed with an absolute element, which in my case is light. However, spirits do not have consciousness, which neither do Celestials or Elementals. So with that logic I should have no consciousness... I see why your master was panicked, I would fear my own existence as well."
"How did you gain consciousness?"
Chase felt like there was no reason on avoiding the question he was most curious about, and set down his coffee, quite interested in the man's answer.
"Well the god I follow of course! He gave me consciousness, and I am forever a servant. In the time I am from that is how humans gained powers as well, these affinities you speak of now are just what god you are most related toward."
"So if my affinity was related to an aspect of death?"
"Then you would serve a god or goddess of death."
Chase frowned, realizing that of course it was his mother, which would make him a follower of a primordial which in theory was even stronger than a lesser god.
Zephyr groaned in his sleep, and sat up.
"Silence your annoying words, let a damn devil sleep for the sake of the mother of death!"
Then he fell back down into a deep slumber, as his dragon snores echoed throughout the trees.
"Though..."
"What is it?"
Chase asked, feeling a hint of dread from the angel's words.
"I sense a much stronger force at play... Like I was supposed to wake up and be freed by you, I can't really say what it is, but I have a feeling you are going to need me, as I am going to need you in the coming times."
Chase's frown deepened.
"Couldn't have said it better myself..."
