Chapter 197 - Chapter 197: Jun Mo's Retaliation

Sixth Prince's Study

"Your Highness, we've found out. Her Ladyship made a move against Changning County Princess." Ye Bai rushed in, reporting.

Jun Hui bolted up. "What? How could she..."

He stopped himself.

Yes, his imperial mother was such a strong-willed person. His words and actions yesterday must have displeased her.

Ye Bai continued, "Last night, Her Ladyship sent over twenty assassins to the Su Residence to assassinate Changning County Princess, but not a single one returned!"

After a long pause, Jun Hui sat back down and asked, "She wasn't injured, was she?"

Ye Bai was stunned. His Highness wasn't worried about the assassins exposing them; his first concern was Changning County Princess's safety. No wonder Her Ladyship had targeted her.

"No."

Jun Hui's eyes deepened. He said coldly, "Send men to stop Her Ladyship's people from acting again! No one is to touch Su Li's life!"

Ye Bai was startled again. Was His Highness... truly deeply involved?

No wonder, even knowing that Changning County Princess was behind their current predicament, His Highness hadn't made any further moves.

Jun Hui didn't hear a reply. He looked up and said coldly, "Didn't you hear this prince?"

Ye Bai cupped his hands and replied, "Yes!"

At the same time, in Prince Jing's Estate, Mo Yang rushed into the study.

"Did they confess?" Jun Mo looked up and asked.

Mo Yang nodded. "Yes, we used Your Master's method, and they confessed. It was Consort Yun."

As expected, Your Master was formidable. Though assassins feared no death, some still couldn't endure inhuman torment.

The "Human Skin Lantern" method even made him, Mo Yang, feel a chill.

Jun Mo's eyes turned cold. "Consort Yun!"

Mo Yang cupped his hands. "Master, what should we do next?"

Jun Mo said coldly, "Throw the bodies into Consort Yun's palace."

"Yes!"

After Mo Yang left, Jun Mo tapped his fingertips on the desk, his eyes as deep as ink.

They had cleared out so many of Jun Hui's forces; it seemed Consort Yun couldn't sit still any longer.

She dared not come to his Prince Jing's Estate, thinking she had picked an easy target.

Yet, she didn't know his Li'er was never one to be easily bullied.

However, daring to lay hands on his person... if he didn't respond, wouldn't it make things dull for the other party?

A faint smile, like a night-blooming poppy, hung on the corner of his lips.

Late at night, Consort Yun's assassins moved out again. Just as they exited, they were blocked.

A group of unexpressive Shadow Guards stood before the black-clad assassins.

"Ye Bai! Why are you blocking us?" The assassin leader shouted angrily.

"His Highness said, Changning County Princess cannot be touched!" Ye Bai replied impassively.

"We are acting on Consort Yun's orders, do you dare to obstruct us?"

"Ye Bai only listens to His Highness."

The group of assassins was helpless. They couldn't win in a fight, and besides, they were, after all, on the same side.

"Just wait until tomorrow when I go to the palace and tell Her Ladyship!"

Ye Bai remained expressionless: "Whatever."

Mo Yun sat on the eaves of Su Li's boudoir, her expression vigilant.

Mo Yu leaned against a large tree in the courtyard, yawning boredly.

"I say, Sister Mo Yun, why are you so nervous? Look how lovely the night is tonight." Mo Yu, being younger, was the most lively among the Mo Guards.

"Sister Mo Yun, do you think they'll come tonight?"

"How many people will come?"

"If they come, how about we each take half? No, on second thought, let me handle all of them. I haven't stretched my muscles in a while. Usually, Brother Mo Feng goes, and I just watch from the side. This time, it's my turn."

"Shut up! You'll disturb Young Miss!" Mo Yun hissed softly.

Was this person really a Mo Guard? So noisy.

"How could I? I'm speaking so softly." Mo Yu retorted.

Their voices truly weren't loud. For martial arts practitioners, their hearing was extraordinary; there was no need to speak loudly.

Mo Yun leaned back against the eaves, closed her eyes, and blocked out Mo Yu's voice.

Suddenly, Mo Yun opened her eyes and looked at Mo Yu, saying coldly, "What were you muttering just now?"

Mo Yu looked puzzled. "I muttered a lot of things. Which sentence are you talking about?"

Mo Yun said, "What did you say about Mo Feng?"

Mo Yu said, "Oh, that sentence. I said, Sister Mo Yun, you're so cold, I wonder why Brother Mo Feng likes you?"

Mo Yun fell silent.

Mo Feng liked her?

Seeing her expression, Mo Yu exclaimed in surprise, "No way? You didn't notice at all?"

Mo Yun truly hadn't noticed.

As Shadow Guards, although their master had no rule against marriage, Shadow Guards often lived dangerous lives, performing many unsavory tasks. Forming a family would create a weakness.

But hearing Mo Yu's words, Mo Yun suddenly remembered. Many times, Mo Feng had taken the dangerous missions that should have been hers.

She and Mo Feng were orphans who met in a ruined temple and later joined the Shadow Guards together. Out of thousands, only dozens remained, becoming the Mo Guards.

"Honestly, Brother Mo Feng can really keep things to himself. He had to rely on me. If you two end up together, you owe me a big red packet!"

Mo Yun immediately halted her thoughts. There was business tonight; she couldn't be distracted.

"Shut up, it's almost midnight."

That single sentence made Mo Yu fall silent.

Though Mo Yu was talkative, she was, after all, a Mo Guard.

The two hid in the darkness, waiting quietly.

But until dawn, not a single person came.

The dawn slowly drew open its curtain, a damp wind gently sweeping through, and streaks of sunlight shone upon the magnificent palace, reflecting an orange glow.

"Ah—!"

A scream erupted from Consort Yun's bedchamber.

Upon opening her eyes, she saw severed hands and legs scattered across the floor, along with round heads wrapped in blood.

There were also bloodied, unrecognizable pieces of flesh from unknown body parts. The blood had congealed and turned black, and the stench was nauseating.

Blood was everywhere! Even on her quilt!

She recognized some of the faces; these were her assassins!

"Come! Someone! Quick!"

Her Nanny hurried in with palace maids. Upon seeing the scene, they also shrieked, and some timid ones fainted directly.

Seeing people arrive, Consort Yun quickly ran over and hugged her Nanny tightly.

"Nanny! It must be him! It's him! That God of Slaughter!"

The Nanny avoided looking at the floor, shielding Consort Yun as she led her out.

She ordered her trusted subordinates to clean the bedchamber quietly, without making a fuss.

Consort Yun huddled on the imperial concubine's chair, her face filled with terror.

She had slept the entire night with these body parts!

The Nanny said sympathetically, "Your Ladyship, it's alright, it's alright!"

"Nanny, that God of Slaughter knows it was us. He's coming after us!"

The God of Slaughter Consort Yun referred to was Jun Mo, a title he earned during his battle against Northern Flame.

"Don't be afraid, Your Ladyship. If our Prince's plan succeeds, we won't have to fear that God of Slaughter anymore," the Nanny consoled.

Consort Yun's eyes lit up. "Yes, by then, this consort will be the Empress Dowager! The first person this consort will order to be executed will be him! I'm not afraid of him at all!"

Seeing her regain her composure, the Nanny poured her a cup of hot tea and handed it to her.

Consort Yun sat up, took the hot tea, took a sip, and steadied herself.

"Seal off that room. As for those who saw what they shouldn't have, Nanny, go deal with them."

Even with her strong will, she dared not sleep in that room again.

As for the few young palace maids drawn by her scream, they could only be considered unlucky.

"Your Ladyship, rest assured, this old servant will handle it properly."
