Chapter 29 - The Last Letter

Mr. Woodson sat across Thomes as he narrated the story of Thomes mother. He began saying "She was as bright as the sun. We were happy while it lasted but as time passed on, she had an ambition which ate her whole. Everything she had done so far had sparked a flame that was burning her up with no end. I tried everything, taking her to her favourite places, talking endlessly with no response but one day she left all of a sudden. I searched high and low for her but found no trace of her. After reading the letter I went out to search for her with no clue what so ever. I couldn't find her. "

After a brief conversation between Thomes and his father, Thomes decided to meet up with Hugo one more time to find any clues. This was the start of their journey. Thought at the end of their journey they couldn't find any clue but they found the last letter addressed to Thomes and his father. It only had a single line that read:

" The war robbed me of my dream but as I slowly opened up to it, it felt like the world and I were finally at peace for a very brief moment. "

Thomes understood that his mother was finally happy, though she regrets about her family, he was happy, and so he put an end to their journey. He then handed the letter to his father, who turned to Thomes and said,"There might be many sad things happening, and you might be feeling really overwhelmed right now. You might be sad and feel like crying, but don't forget: your mother loves you very much." With this they both began crying like a two year old and after a long deep cry, they looked at each other's puffy faces and began bursting out in laughter and gave each other a tight hug.

Later Thomes met Hugo to thank him but with a greater turn of events, Hugo proposed to Thomes, they both felt a tingle for eachother. That was how Mr. Thomeson Hugo started their journey.

By the end of the story, everyone in the room who gathered to listen to Mr. Thomeson's narrations every Saturday, decided to write a letter because they realised that a letter can sometimes be short and sweet, and still express important feelings and that words can have different interpretations. What one says isn't the whole truth. It's a human weakness. They test others to confirm their own existence. It's a contradiction. They wrote letters to their loved ones, to the people who they were upset with because even adults are allowed to complain sometimes. Because letters aren't just voices captured in ink but a way to untangible the memories and resolve the conflict within oneself.
