"Let him sleep," Krish said, his eyes on Xavier. "He must not have slept much in the last few days." He paused, then, with a hint of something like guilt in his tone, added, "You don't know anything about this, but he was…" He trailed off, unable to finish the sentence, his gaze shifting away.

"Just tell me," I managed to whisper, my voice trembling.

Krish looked at me with a mixture of sadness and resolve. "He was the one who went to the greatest trouble in trying to save you this time," he repeated softly.

My mind raced. "How did he end up like that?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Krish nodded toward the sleeping figure. "You saw the boy, right?"

"Yeah, Aiden," I replied quietly.

Krish's eyes lingered on Xavier's form. "That boy was able to reach you all because of Xavier's efforts. Xavier helped that boy extend the time he could be with you—just a little. And now, you must know the real reason why that boy died," he said, his tone heavy with meaning.
