Whenever they use it, those with enough experience can shape it into any form they desire. However, it takes thousands, perhaps even millions of years of slaughter to achieve that.
Kent had reached the initial stage of intent manifestation to the shock of anyone who would be at the receiving end of his killing intent.
Although he could not manifest and shape it into any form he wanted, he could at least let it become visible.
