Chapter 186 - Fragmented Divinity

[Divine Spells]

-Receive Sacrifices 0/100 + 0/100

-Observe Worshippers and Divine Totems

-Mental Communication

-Grant Items 0/20 (Daily)

-Grant Spells 0/25 + 0/25 (Daily)

-Grant Priesthood 0/2 + 0/2

Rafael read all five Divine Spells and quickly understood most of them without needing to delve too deeply…

Receiving Sacrifices was something that was already in the system before, but he could only offer sacrifices to himself or other gods using Primordial Magic. And he now understood why they were greatly weakened… It was because he wasn't a God and didn't have a Fragmented Divinity!

Now in possession of two Fragmented Divinities, he could receive a maximum of 200 offerings/sacrifices daily from his worshippers and cast any basic spell he knew. The limitation of using spells like that was that he couldn't combine them to cast advanced spells... But it was already very good, especially when used and combined with his many already mastered spells, giving him many conveniences in his daily life, such as creating Soul Stones, or using various simple and less useful spells like cleansing spells, fire spells to cook and make potions, or other conveniences like Telekinesis…

But there was a huge disadvantage to this method for the wielder of the Fragmented Divinity: if he didn't use the daily basic spells, the energy of the sacrifices would dissipate after 24 hours… This was something that didn't happen when he was a Half-Demon… And he had also lost the ability to make offerings to himself…

So, if he wasn't going to use these spells, the best thing to do would be to grant these basic spells to his worshippers so that they could protect themselves and continue worshipping him. Rafael had already realized that such worship could be crucial to his future advancements...

Observing Worshippers and Divine Totems, plus Mental Communication, was an ideal combination for observing what his worshippers were doing. When combined with Spell Granting and Item Granting, he could provide 20 items* or 50 spells daily to his worshippers who were in danger or facing difficulties; the spells would remain available on their bodies until they used them. Then they could pray or make new offerings to obtain more.

Granting Priesthood was similar, but Priests would automatically obtain their spells by praying daily, even if they didn't make sacrifices. Rafael imagined he could create Master Priests in the future with this ability. But for now, it was limited to 2 common priests per Fragmented Divinity.

Smiling, Rafael curiously observed his statues, temples, churches, and worshippers.

The first place he observed was the Temple they had built for him in the Tower City. Raphael was quite pleased with everyone in that city; they were honest and revered him wholeheartedly for the "paradise" in which they lived. The statues of Raphael were identical to his appearance and were masterfully crafted by talented sculptors and apprentices of magic.

He immediately made a "revelation" using Mental Communication to talk with the man who was the leader of the Temple, and granted him one of the Priest positions. He also permitted him to freely leave the Tower of Distortion to preach discreetly in the city of Asshai. Afterwards, he provided several worshippers with small acts of assistance and basic spells.

For some men and women, he simply grandly appeared in their minds, seated on a majestic throne. The image he projected was of a beautiful, ancient, and popular place in Valyria; the sky was night, and a "blood-red moon"*[1] was in the sky… He spoke words of encouragement to them and said that he was pleased with their devotion and faith.

Most of the worshippers revealed expressions of extreme devotion and shed tears. Especially those who had never personally seen their savior.

Taking advantage of the appearance of their savior to his worshippers and the many revelations of Raphael, the newly appointed Priest of the Red Sage initiated a great celebration in the Temple that soon spread throughout the Tower City. In the future, everyone would call that specific day of the year the Day of Revelation…

Satisfied, Raphael's gaze turned to an isolated island in the West of the Jade Sea. On this island lived about 1500 inhabitants, and all seemed to be descendants of Valyrians, but that was not what shocked Raphael. Throughout the island, dozens of statues of him were scattered!

Upon seeing the appearance of some of these statues, Raphael was quite embarrassed!

This was because they depicted a hooded man atop a chariot, throwing money everywhere!

Whenever someone passed by these statues, they shouted phrases that greatly embarrassed Raphael…

"Lord of Prophecies!"

"God of Wealth!"

"Protector of the Commoners!"

"The Great Red Sage!"

"God of Abundance!"

Raphael could only laugh at the titles given to him by these people, and soon found two enormous temples on opposite sides of the island. One was led by an old priestess who appeared to be almost 100 years old, while the other was a handsome man in his forties.

Raphael was quite pleased with the woman but furious with the man.

This is because, unlike the woman, who accepted donations at her Temple and helped those in need, the man was using the Red Sage's name to extort money from the common people and enrich himself!

When Raphael observed his worshippers using the Divine Spell "Observe Worshippers", he could see their true selves and know if their devotion and feelings were real. In this man's case, he couldn't see anything, showing that his devotion to him was completely false!

Raphael could only see the dishonest man because the swindler lived within his Temple and was therefore within his Totem Observation area.

After observing the man for a while longer, he saw where he was keeping the donation money and even witnessed him reading a letter about acquiring land with the stolen money...

Raphael then turned his attention to the elderly Priestess. He felt some kind of familiarity upon seeing her. Furthermore, this lady, almost 100 years old, was a walking miracle. Humans and Valyrians shouldn't live so long in the unsanitary conditions of Planetos without some kind of magic or special race...

Taking advantage of her connection as a believer in him, he finally observed part of her memories. He saw her appearance when she was younger, recognizing her as the eldest daughter of a certain Valyrian tavernkeeper. The tavern, called Valyrian Corner, was situated in the old, impoverished quarter of the Valyrian Freehold, where Omar, Zhang, and he lived...

This tavern was also the same place where he had his first meal in this world, and where he wrote the message about the end of Valyria on the walls. Observing even deeper into the old Priestess's soul, he confirmed his suspicions about why the woman lived so long...

She had a talent for magic, not only that, but she also had a special physique! The same physique as the deceased Little Liu!

The other option for a "normal" person to live so long would be to have an affinity with the Body, but reaching such a point relying solely on a more resilient body than normal was difficult…

"What a waste, if she had been found when she was younger, she could have become a Master of magic… Light and Holy were rare affinities, and even rarer when combined. Especially Holy, there was no one in the Order with that affinity at the moment."

Rafael's energy involved the woman and pulled her into a conversation.

Lanys was dedicating herself to her daily prayers inside the Temple of the Red Sage on the Isle of Rebirth when she felt something warm envelop her, and the environment around her began to change. She was startled, but before she could do anything, her vision darkened. When the light returned to her eyes again, magically and mysteriously, she was back in Valyria in her family's old tavern: Valyria's Corner. She looked at her own body, realizing that she, too, had become young again.

Remembering her parents and older brother, who hadn't wanted to flee the Doom with her, her eyes filled with tears, and a serene, comforting voice spoke to her:

"I'm sorry, I didn't think returning to that place would make you unhappy…"

When Lanys heard the voice, she turned to one of the tavern tables and saw the most beautiful man she had ever seen. He had exquisite white skin without any blemish, and a face with perfect features that combined in a way that would make even other men envious. His long hair was silvery like that of the Valyrians, but it seemed much brighter than usual, almost like strands of pure silver. Everything suggested he was a Valyrian, but his blood-red eyes were rare and uncommon among that people. The clothes he wore were also quite simple, just a worn red hooded cloak.

Lanys, sensing his almost divine presence, knew who he was and unconsciously bowed.

"My Lord!"

The Red Sage remained silent, and Lanys said, "My family didn't want to believe your prophecy… Thank you for allowing me to see this place once more and to remember; my memory isn't what it was when I was young…"

"But you heard my words, didn't you? I think that's why this island has so many faithful who still believe in and remember me…"

After a pause, Rafael continued:

"I remember you, child; you always served me when I had breakfast here. What is your name?"

"The Lord honors me by remembering someone so insignificant. My name is Lanys!"

"I am quite pleased with your devotion, Lanys. I can see all the effort you have put into this island. I will grant you several rewards for the work you have done throughout your life… Among them are the official title of Priestess and the advantages that come with it, various magical knowledge, and a drop of my blood. All this should allow you to continue serving me for even longer…"

Lanys opened her mouth in astonishment. To see the God she believed in and to see her old home again was already reward enough for someone with so much faith and devotion, but would her Lord give her even more rewards?

"But I also need you to fulfill a certain task… I want you to punish the heretic who poses as my Priest and has been stealing money from my worshippers…"

***

[You created a Vampire Servant!]

After creating his first vampire servant and observing Lanys's renewed vitality, he also granted her the title of Priest. Rafael took advantage of the situation and granted spells, items, artifacts, and revelations to several inhabitants of the Isle of Rebirth, ensuring they followed certain rules and avoided things like human sacrifices in his name...

Soon, a mob of furious people gathered around the heretic charlatan's Temple. But Rafael didn't continue observing what would happen to him...

His eyes turned to Westeros, where he saw another humble Temple dedicated to him, hidden in a seaside cave on Dragonstone. He granted another title of Priest to the man who prayed alone in that place, and after some guidance, he turned to the worshippers scattered throughout the world.

Some prayed for help, others asked for power, a minority wished evil upon their enemies, and others simply gave offerings traditionally to thank him, following the guidance of their ancestors...

There was something in common among them: most worshipped him in secret, whether in the basements of their homes or in hidden caves. Some even asked him to protect them from certain groups like the Faith of the Seven, who hunted them as cultist criminals.

Raphael understood that some of these worshippers must have done bad things in his name, but he did not judge them. He granted power to those who asked for help to survive, provided common items and potions to the wounded, artifacts to aspiring heroes, and many copper and silver coins to those who asked for financial help; he guided them with revelations to unite and protect themselves. He even provided magical knowledge to those he perceived as having a talent for magic.

When his 50 daily spells from the Granting Magic ran out, Raphael even granted his own daily spells. Although he could not provide Advanced Spells, he could provide a weaker version of his innate spells.

Focusing his attention on a certain Valyrian on the outskirts of Morosh, he saw him being pursued by Slave Lords to the point of almost being on the verge of death. By granting him the innate spell of Regeneration, he saw the man's wounds regenerate, and he retaliated against his pursuers in a fury, spitting flames from his mouth and burning them all to death.

The man, still not understanding how he had gained his powers, sobbed and cried incessantly. He knelt in gratitude and prayed fervently to the Red Sage…

After reflecting for a while, Raphael granted this last man the final position of Priest and guided him to use the flames of war to free other Valyrian slaves in his name.

Finally feeling satisfied, he sent a final revelation to all the Priests, saying that he would sleep for a while…

After that, he took one last look at his own status. Purposefully avoiding the lineage tab. He felt that if he looked at that tab now, he wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully…

"Heh, I've always been a charlatan, deceiving everyone by pretending to know about the future. But now I have strange prophetic dreams, and I feel strong sensations about what I should and shouldn't do so as not to harm myself… It seems that my worshippers calling me Lord of Prophecies has influenced my Fragmented Divinity in this direction?"
