-------

Siebold was a trainer from the Kalos region, renowned as one of its leading representatives, and in the future, he would become one of the Elite Four members of his region.

In addition to his role as a trainer, Siebold was also a well-known chef, with a warm and friendly demeanor that made him very popular among his peers.

Someone who knows how to cook is always welcome, isn't he? Even Cain was appreciated for that reason.

Moreover, Siebold had an attractive appearance, with a style completely different from Steven's. While Steven exuded the elegance of a powerful businessman, Siebold had the kindness of a trusted older brother.

When both appeared in the stadium, the public's ovations were deafening. By this stage of the tournament, all the participants had built up a fan base, and these two were no exception.

However, the matchup was not strategically favorable for Siebold. Although his team specialized in Water-type Pokémon, he held some advantage over Steven's Steel- and Rock-type team.

The battle began with both sending out Pokémon to test each other's skills. Steven chose his Armaldo, a Rock/Bug-type Pokémon, while Siebold responded with Starmie, of the Water/Psychic type.

Both Pokémon had a mutual advantage and disadvantage relationship: Starmie's Water type was effective against Armaldo's Rock, while Armaldo's Bug-type moves could inflict severe damage on Starmie's Psychic type.

Despite the balanced fight, Starmie managed to defeat Armaldo thanks to its slight level advantage, although it was visibly exhausted after the bout. Steven then responded by sending out Cradily, a Rock/Grass-type Pokémon, whose type combination was extremely effective against Starmie.

With a well-executed attack, Cradily overcame Siebold's weakened Pokémon.

Steven's Cradily had the ability Suction Cups, which made it immune to moves that attempted to force it off the field. Had it possessed the hidden ability Storm Drain, it would have been even more useful, as that ability would allow it to absorb Water-type moves and use them to strengthen itself—a great advantage against teams like Siebold's.

However, the fact that Cradily was revived from a fossil meant that its ability options were limited.

Siebold then responded by sending out Swanna, a Water/Flying-type Pokémon from the Unova region. Swanna had the advantage of being able to attack from the air, which complicated Cradily's moves. After a hard-fought battle, Cradily was defeated.

Up to this point, Steven had lost two Pokémon but maintained his composure, as did his teammates, who showed no signs of worry.

This was because Cradily and Armaldo were the weaker pieces of Steven's team, and the real challenge for Siebold was yet to come.

Steven chose his Skarmory as his next contender. With its impressive durability and a slight level advantage, Skarmory managed to defeat Swanna, evening the score. In response, Siebold sent out Barbaracle, a Rock/Water-type Pokémon from Kalos.

However, even with this type combination, Barbaracle couldn't overcome Skarmory's defensive strength and ended up defeated, though the battle left Skarmory in a precarious position. Now, Siebold had lost three Pokémon and was at a disadvantage.

With a change in the battlefield, Siebold decided to bring out his trump card: Clawitzer.

This Water-type Pokémon possessed overwhelming offensive capabilities thanks to its ability Mega Launcher, which significantly boosted the power of moves like Water Pulse and Dragon Pulse.

Additionally, Clawitzer was capable of using Aura Sphere, a Fighting-type move that posed a direct threat to Steven's Steel-type Pokémon. In just two attacks, Clawitzer eliminated Skarmory, leaving Steven with only three Pokémon remaining.

Faced with this challenge, Steven brought out his greatest weapon: a uniquely colored Metagross.

The Shiny Metagross not only impressed the audience but also changed the course of the fight. In an exhausting showdown, Metagross managed to defeat Clawitzer, although it suffered significant damage in the process.

Worried about Metagross's endurance for future battles, Steven decided to withdraw it and rely on his Aggron for the remaining fights.

Siebold used Blastoise and Gyarados as his final bets, but Aggron, with its formidable durability and offense, managed to overcome both. Steven's solid strategy allowed him to keep his Aerodactyl as a hidden resource—a Pokémon whose true power had not yet been revealed even to his closest allies.

With this victory, Steven secured his place in the quarterfinals, leaving Siebold out of the tournament.

As they left the field, both trainers were ovated by the public, who appreciated the exciting battle they had provided. The next contest featured another representative from Hoenn, Wallace, facing Flint, a Fire-type specialist from Sinnoh.

As expected, Wallace, with his team specializing in Water-type Pokémon, emerged victorious, although he lost three Pokémon in the process.

Despite his defeat, Flint demonstrated his ability and potential, solidifying his position as a future member of the Sinnoh Elite Four.

Up to this point, it became increasingly clear that the Sinnoh League was finding it difficult to control the remaining players, as none of them were easy opponents.

Each battle was filled with intensity, and the matchups were decided by both strategy and experience.

Next up to face his destiny was Phoebe. Her opponent was Will, a trainer from the Johto region specializing in Psychic-type Pokémon.

Although Ghost-type Pokémon naturally have an advantage over Psychic types, Will had years of experience on his side, while Phoebe, who had only just begun making a name for herself in the world of trainers, still had much to learn.

The difference between them quickly became evident during the battle. Despite her efforts, Phoebe couldn't withstand the strategic dominance of Will. He used his vast experience to neutralize the advantage of Ghost-type moves and, after defeating four of Phoebe's Pokémon, managed to secure victory.

The fight was a clear example of how experience can be a decisive factor in high-level matchups.

When Phoebe met her opponent the day before, she knew she would face an enormous challenge, so she had already prepared herself for the possibility of losing. Therefore, when the result wasn't favorable, she showed no signs of discouragement.

This attitude surprised Steven and Cain, who were ready to console her, only to discover that it wasn't necessary. Phoebe's mentality was even stronger than theirs at that moment.

With that, the Hoenn region managed to secure three spots in the quarterfinals—the highest among all the participating regions.

This result further consolidated Hoenn as a dominant powerhouse in the tournament, demonstrating that its trainers were among the best in the world.
